The level of disattachment that the developers have from their fanbase is extremely concerning

  1. Original Warlock tanking rune
    i. Had to do a raid, as a DPS, before you could unlock the tank spec. Imagine if warriors had to DPS molten core before they could tank. The entire game would be ruined, as no one could tank. You might think this example is silly, but imagine you and 9 friends get together to form a tight knit raiding guild for SoD for the 10 of you. Someone is rolling a shaman tank, and someone is rolling a warlock tank. The person rolling warrior wants to play DPS and does not want to tank. That guild group is now bricked as they can NEVER get their two tanks they need to do their raids, unless they force the DPS warrior to tank for a raid. And if no one rolls a warrior, they are even more SoL.

  2. Blizzard has made it so that hunter pets now scale from the hunters attack power WITHOUT also making it so warlock pets scale from the warlocks spell power. Literally zero reason for this blatant slap in the face.

  3. Horde had to travel to alliance areas to get runes. Again, ZERO reason for this blatant slap in the face.

  4. Original BFD buff gave crit to everyone, but gave AP to melee, and zero SP to casters. Again, ZERO reason for this blatant slap in the face

It sounds like youre discovering that you do not like this season.

I think they are on the fence

I mean, right now that drops off the elite mobs outside the raid too, you don’t need to set foot inside anymore.

This, and it’s been stated that runes requiring the raid was a mistake and never intended

Yes I am aware of that change for the warlock rune, however, originally it was the way I said it was, and the fact that the developers were A-ok with it was and IS extremely concerning.

They weren’t okay with it. They made a change as soon as they could.

They shipped it as was, so obviously they were ok with it, only when the fans commented on it did they change it.

Are you telling me that magically blizzard fairies made it so warlocks had to do the raid to get their rune, and NO ONE in the company knew that until the fans pointed it out?

they have been trying to approach the design in a way similar to vanilla, where powerful things were usually pretty heavily gated and not just handed out as part of the intro quest. Mistakes might have been made but it was corrected

Blizzard detached from player base launches Season of Discovery trying out stuff in a Classic+ like way.

Okay.

Just because it shipped like that does not mean they wanted it that way.

There’s gotta be hundreds of different people in the company, and the way this got coded probably got split up between a couple different people who didn’t have time to properly communicate to one another.

Hindsight and a double take on their work means that this actually could be true.

Gating the powerful runes is one thing, but saying to tanks “you have to DPS before you can tank” is another level. Also their are no excuses for saying to alliance “stay in your zones and you will get your runes” while saying to horde “ya um, we are going to require you to travel to wetlands and redridge for your runes, lol suck it”

You need to think about how they approached this, from their perspective the idea of warlocks tanking was probably a BONUS they can earn, and not everyone will have it right away.

From some players perspective they heard “warlocks can tank now” and just planned that expecting to be a warlock tank day 1.

This is why a company has managers, and supervisors, and overseers. Magical fairies did not make the warlock rune. Someone or multiple people decided to do the following

  1. Make warlocks do a raid before they could tank
  2. Make horde travel to alliance areas to get runes, but not do the same for the alliance
  3. Make the BFD buff benefit melee more than spellcasters
  4. Make hunter pets scale, but ignore the fact that warlock pets do not scale.

AND the supervisors, and direct reports RESPONSIBLE for making sure this level of incompetency doesn’t make it live failed in their duty to manage their employees.

I mean, someone was okay with it, otherwise why would they have programmed it that way? lol. I get what you’re saying, but at the end of the day it was obviously programmed by someone who thought it was okay for it to be that way.

There’s not hundreds of people working on SoD, just fyi.

It’s almost as if they found some gaming developer interns off Linkedin and had them work on SoD for 2 years

Oh wait, that’s exactly what they did…

Not only this, but the more concerning part is that his managers, and his direct reports, and the final editors and producers responsible for APPROVING the finished product, decided that what he did was acceptable.

Those are indeed 4 issues, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say dispatched from the fanbase, man. They seems to fix up most things that are inbalanced pretty quickly so far. The only thing they seem to be out of the loop on with any firm stance is Ashenvale imbalance and laying glitches.

I appreciate that they’re pretty quick with fixes so far… I just can’t help shake the feeling of this being a paid PTR though lol.
