The WoW Devs haven’t given us a new class since Demon Hunters in 2016. Their largest competition MMO on the other hand, gives two or THREE new classes every single expansion.
It’s really sad that WoW missed the boat on adding new classes where it would have fit the lore perfectly.
Blood mages: BFA with blood trolls everywhere, or Shadowlands with the Venthyr.
Tinkers: BFA with Mechagon. They even had NPC Tinkers in island expeditions.
Necromancers: Shadowlands, literally death and liches and necromancers everywhere!
Dragonsworn: The end of BFA where we collected the various powers of the dragon flights.
What I’m saying is that I just hope they don’t go another 3 years without creating a new class for WoW. It’s something that a lot of us look forward to, and when Shadowlands launched with no new races and no new classes, it was a huge disappointment.
I’m not sure what the dev team’s excuse has been since 2016. “It doesn’t fit the lore" isn’t valid, and neither is “not enough dev time dev time to balance new specs" as they clearly have the ability to crunch numbers for all of their extra borrowed power systems that we will discard like usual in a couple of years.
Also, I’d like to add that the expansions that launched with a new class seem to be more fondly remembered than the others (Lich King, Mists of Pandaria and Legion) while the others are more often remembered as stinkers (Cata, Wod, BFA, Shadowlands). (I understand that this is subjective and I don’t speak for everyone nor do I know everything).
So in conclusion…fingers crossed that we get a new class this expansion! Let me know what you’re hoping for!

My biggest dream is Necromancers, but I’m open to anything really, I’m just hoping for new classes and races!.

Let’s maybe fix the classes we have now before making a new one. Hell, putting in a new class will stuff up almost every other class
I’m happy with new races that we have been asking since the start (ogre, naga, vrykul, etc)

Don’t those classes lack specs? It’s easier to pump them out.

If you’re talking about FFXIV, each class in that game is really closer to being equivalent to a WoW spec than to a WoW class. They also don’t have to worry about balance because nobody cares about it in that game.
I don’t care if they add anymore new classes; a lot of the ideas out there aren’t that interesting. Necromancers in other games are usually DoT caster classes with summonable pets, so they’re basically like warlocks, and to make them feel special Blizzard would probably end up taking stuff away from warlocks again just like they did in Legion.

Honestly I’m with this. They have such a terrible time balancing especially when they keep layering on new systems that they have to try and balance with the classes themselves.

No class/spec is bad because another spec exists though.
And in raw numbers (for raids at least), classes are in a decent spot. The bigger problem is utility and damage profiles, which is more of an issue in M+ due to smaller group sizes.
The biggest problem with DH is that it was only 2 specs, so it was the equivalent of 2 class additions in FFXIV. Since the announcement of Legion, FFXIV has released 4 expansions with 9 classes. That’s the equivalent of 4 DH style classes, or 3 standard classes. So yeah, it’s been a rather rough go of things. We’re VERY overdue for a new class. Given Sylvanas’ focus on Shadowlands, we should have gotten Dark Rangers last expansion.

If the dev team focused on classes instead of adding multiple borrowed power systems on top of every class and spec, they would have a lot of dev time to balance things properly.

I think the phrase “quality over quantity” is very important here.
Some specs are designed well.
Some specs are designed poorly.
Extra classes grows the pool of poorly designed specs, not the pool of well designed specs.
And although the last new class was in 2016, we have seen classes significantly reworked.
SV Hunter.
Demo Lock.
Enh Shaman.
Balance Druid.
SPriest.
Disc.

Final Fantasy reworks classes too (example Summoner for Endwalker) and they had no problem doing their usual two classes (which could have been the equivalent of a WoW class with two specs).

WoW generates billions of dollars a year for Blizzard. The idea that they can’t keep up with a new class addition is laughable.
Anyway, I want a mech-based Tinker class. We need a new physical ranged class, and a Goblin or Gnome inside a mech blowing stuff up with lasers, machine guns, and missiles is quite appealing.

FFXIV has 19 classes (which have 0 variations or specializations)
WoW has 12 classes, but each class has 3 (DH/Druid exceptions) specs that fundamentally change the way the class plays, effectively meaning we have 36 classes if we want a fair comparison to FFXIV.
Of course it’s easier to add more classes without overlapping or stealing from other classes when you’re that far behind.
That said, yes, I want to see a new class in WoW in 10.0. The common forum arguments against it aren’t based in reality.
(No, Crafting Jobs are not classes in the same way as Combat classes, despite using the same terminology, feel free to argue they have a much better profession system – they do – but they are not classes)

I would be he happy for any ranged/caster even if it has to have a melee spec… I usually main melee, but we haven’t gotten a new ranged/caster yet and variety is the spice of life… will probably need a mail user though because hunters and sham need some love on gear drops

Though I prefer melee for dps, it’s insane that in 17 years Blizzard has not added a ranged dps spec and in fact took one away with Survival (and I’m not asking for just a return of ranged survival hunter, especially since Survival was my favorite melee spec during Legion…I don’t quite like the SL or BFA versions nearly as much).
Since DHs only have 2 specs, it would be the least hard to balance to add just a single new ranged spec to that class though, personally, I’d prefer a whole new class. There are currently 6 tanks, 6 healers, 13 melee dps, and 11 ranged dps. So, what I would like to see is a new class that has 2 ranged dps specs and then either a tank or healer spec and then have another tank or healer spec added to DH. I would like to see a caster tank (maybe the class should be a pet class if that was the case…maybe not), and I think a healer DH spec could be a chance to try something different. But, adding a ranged spec to DH and then a new ranged class that has 1 dps, 1 tank, 1 healing spec would be interesting too.
No matter if a new class is added or not, the game could use at least 1 or 2 new ranged dps specs (at the minimum add a 4th hunter spec based on the old ranged survival, and then give DHs a warglaive-flinging ranged spec to balance out to 13 ranged specs).

You’re comparing 19(20 but who cares about blue mage?) specs to 36.
You’re also comparing role locked classes. It’s much easier to make a balanced Tank when all it can do is Tank.
Those 19 classes aren’t even balanced as well as they could be.
Until FF14 has 36+ “jobs” then it isn’t comparable to WoW.

Not to mention, meters are much harder to install and you’re forbidden to even talk about it so even if it wasn’t balanced, nobody would know or be allowed to acknowledge it.

While I expected necromancer to be added in SL… which is weird not to… in bfa however they added alot of allied races and usually its 1 expansion races - next expansion classes, which wasnt the case this time around.

Not only have we not gotten a new range /caster but we have had one range spec turned to melee
Currently there are 13 melee specs and 11 range/caster.
If the change had not been made in Legion the split would be even . Either a new range class with 2 specs should be made or do what a lot of players in the hunter community have been asking for. Add a forth spec that brings back elements of the old RSurv hunter .
Give it a new name so that it doesn’t take away from those that play MSurv. I despise that spec now but even so they have had it for awhile and I would hate to see done to them what happened to us that played and fell in love with RSurv.
