That would actually be pretty darn cool. Maybe I can attempt this soon or later. You’ve seen some of the model edits I can do, so this one wouldn’t be off the table. In fact I had actually been planning on doing something like that for the aquatic class project, but I already had a bunch of them planned.
Any of various cold-blooded, usually smooth-skinned vertebrates of the class Amphibia, characteristically hatching as an aquatic larva with gills and then transforming into an adult having air-breathing lungs. Frogs, toads, salamanders, and caecilians are amphibians.
n.
An animal capable of living both on land and in water.
n.
An aircraft that can take off and land on either land or water.
Some have lungs. Some don’t. Ever noticed how Vim says"Hey Sprog?" Sprog seems to refer to a gilblins when they are young. Its never actually confirmed in lore if gilblins have some kind of reptilians like life style. However I believe they are mammalian in nature dispite ticking some of these amphibian qualifications. Reason why:
Amphibians don’t birth like mammals do and gilblins I believe do things the mammalian way in that regards.
Usually amphibians don’t have claws.
The gilblins also have stuff like hair, breasts etc.
However… That sea dragon transformation we were talking about is meant to be reptilian like.
Remember when Vim says"Hey Sprog?" its a nice touch. Vim I believe is also on the older side. I think Neri is middle aged. Poen seems to be the youngest. Maybe around 26-31 years old.
I mean, orcs call younglings “whelp” or “pup”. Iit just speaks to their packlike nature and their bond with wolves.
There are many types of frogs and fish that do give live birth, such as guppies and mollies. The name given to fish that give live birth is actually livebearers. And yes, the itty bitty fry are adorable.
This adorable fellow is the Wolverine frog. He literally breaks his own bones to unsheathe some wicked claws on his feet, as well as having hairlike fibers that actually help him breathe by absorbing oxygen from the water as he guards his eggs.
The breasts could be lumps of fat storage, like the humps on camels or they could simply be decorative. Many fish come in all sorts of weird and wonderful shapes.
Very interesting. So they in fact legit may be amphibious after all? These are all good examples that have changed my perspective a lot. The last one caught me by surprise. Really didn’t think amphibians had hair at all. I will keep this all in mind from the future onward. What I may do is make a few sketches for ideas on moonkin designs then post them here and see what you guys think.
The animal kingdom is so amazing with how varied and strange it is. Pretty much if you can think of it, it either exists now, or it once did. Amphibians don’t have true hair, but it definitely looks enough like it that I think it could definitely have evolved to look like the hair we see on gilblins without stretching imagination too much.
I’ve personally always subscribed to the theory that mermaids are amphibians, and all their humanlike features can be explained through convergent evolution, like how many times wings have evolved throughout the animal kingdom.
They are called gilgoblins too which implies they have gills. They do have gills. If you look closely around the neck, they have them visible. Hard to see on the cata model, but they are there. So if they have gills then it seems pretty obviously they are adapted to aquatic environments.

That makes sense. What about the naga? Do you think they are reptilian or amphibious?
Well they seem to be able to breathe just as well out of water as beneath water, so I would say amphibians. Amphibians and a few types of crab are the only animals I know that can breathe both underwater and above water.
That would be a pretty sweet mount. I also think a sea giant mount would be pretty neat tbh, but I don’t see one like that happening. If gilgoblins ever become an allied race though, summon seagiant would be a great racial.

In that case they are almost definitely amphibians. They seem to be able to survive just fine on land too. Hey. They are hanging out in an Arid desert now.
Sometime within the next month probably I am going to upload a video with all of the female goblin animations which I bring the gilblin model up to HD standards or beyond.
Trying to come up with a story for my now two Kelfin… I don’t know what their classes will be yet, or even their genders anymore, but I know now that I want two. lol
Did an update to the feet of the model. You can see the comparison here. The new ones are much more defined and detailed. Its worth nothing that blizzard might not make the feet so detailed like you see here and they may be more akin to the later one, but its still a very good visualization of what gilgoblins feet would canonically look like. I am going through the model and bringing it as much up to par as I can with the HD model. I will post more updates in time.
My to do list:
Add 3D eyebrows that are rigged.
Redo the teeth making the blend into the model better.
Reshape the hair to fit the head better.
Blend the ears into the model better and animate the model nicely.
Go over the entire model and look for places where the models are bending improperly and fix as many rig errors as I can.
Add more detail to the body texture and try to incorporate the dots and spots gilblins are known for.
Add gills. Not just painted on. They aren’t called gilgoblins for no reason.
Add more bones to the facial rig.
Improve nose with more detail.
Add a tongue(bliz models wouldn’t do this), but for my purposes a tongue is a nice extra touch.
All while keeping the poly count from getting too absurd and topology done properly. Once thats all done I will post a video with all the animations.
Once this is done I am going to look into improving some of the other transformations and maybe getting the male gilgoblin one up to par. Well see though. There is many things I could do.
