The kelfin love/allied race discussion thread ✿

Oh your armor is on!

Hmm… What type of shark is Gral you think?

Hard to say. Looks like a great white, but has stripes.

Good choice of name for vulpera.

I’ve been wanting kelfin O.o hopefully blizzard adds them in shadowlands, at the very least as goblin customization because they got shafted this pass.

With how my goblin shaman looks I actually love this quite a bit. I’ve said it many times and think we nearly all agree here they should be an allied race. However if they are to be customization, fin, ear, foot and tatoo customization would go a long way. Tentacle hair options and addons would be nice. I also think glow in the dark eyes would be nice cause cannonically they have glow in the dark eyes and many races do have glowing eyes. So its not like glowing eyes can’t be done. Also I wanted to point out here:

The webbing added to the feet here isn’t merely just a fan made idea.

You can see it in art made by bliz. Now its true this is hearthstone, but you can deduce that they probably look like that in wow too if their models were updated. They can play around a lot with the model too to make it more unique without detatching from what they are. The tatoos I’ve suggested also work, but its questionable as to whether they’d have bioluminescence.

I heard they were suppose to be the allied race of this expansion. Nevertheless I do support this concept.

I’ll pass on customization. Prefer the AR. Customization doesn’t make the greatest amount of sense given that they should be able to breathe under water.

Mostly a rumor. There is no information that blizzard has released to say they were going to be done.

I do think they were considered though, and it is telling that they’re the only one to show up at the capital of their faction group after you’re done in Nazjatar.

I hope blizzard will cave and merge the other allied races to base races in most cases, and get higher quality stuff like frost dwarves in shadowlands, the higher quality stuff would be like unique class stuff in the barber (like druids) for races like adding totem skins for shamans, picking what type of voice you want (like picking between dark iron and wildhammer voices. If we can change gender , in the barber we could in theory open up other shared models by races like switching between highmountain, and normal tauren, and add new stuff like Yaungol and Taunka. So I hope they consider doing something like that for kelfin.

I hope it comes to fruition one day, but probably after Shadowlands.

I’m torn on this concept.

But as long as they keep the racials separated and you get the race name on your plate and voices, tabards, heritage, yada yada yada, in all that I might go for it.

Personally I think it would be better for more races to get more racials to choose from (like Zandalari), it would help with balance and stuff for example if Nightborne warriors could pick another racial then the plus 1% magic damage (warriors have absolutely no magic in their kit, only stuff like azerite traits give magic damage). So merging like mecha gnomes and gnomes, giving them all access to the same hair and eye colors, mech features, and racials would make them a pretty attractive race choice, instead of the two different gnomes we have now with segrated customization, and different hair colors.

Then if they added full mechagnome custmization it would actually make gnomes way better then they are now.

This is sort of how I wanted original subraces to be, unlock a race and earn that customization in the barbershop. Blizz made allied races, but I feel the playerbase would overall like this way to unlock, and use them on the race they play now via barbershop. And it would give us more rewards to chase like If I could unlock Yaungol skins, voicelines on my Tauren/highmountain tauren I would absolutely be excited for that day, and maybe for Taunka too, and have options to just change from the barbershop whenever I feel like it.

This is brainstorming how Ideally it should have been implemented and with blizzard being focused on cosmetics for base races I do hope they listen and rework allied races to base race customization in shadowlands. This would also add more race/class comboes like orc warlocks with blackrock skins, or felshadow priest orcs. Stuff like void elves high elf paladin voice lines/ paladin class. Potentially stuff like demonhunters if they decide to make blood elves sort of nuetral (Nightborne could get night elf variants like moonguard elves/ undead night elf) and stuff like access to druid class.

Other examples. Goblins getting access to Kelfin stuff, this would include voice lines, new skin tones/ possibly dance associated with bodytype. And possibly new classes such as Gral Druids, and Kelfin Totems.

This is how I would like the Kelfin Customization to be handled tbh. And ongoing new customizations that are similar to base races. Why make a forest troll allied race? When we could give that to base trolls/zandalari?

Or skinny humans getting added and being able to pick from the 3 different bodytypes!

Sea Goblins. What’s next Mountain Goblins that is Grey and Tin?

Jokes aside. I hope Blizzard makes the Sea Goblins playable for Goblins as a Customization Option. Atleast there’s more to goblins that might send people coming to the goblins.

I think at some point they were originally planned to be the goblin AR due to them having all kinds of story development, a hoa animation, the only race we helped during bfa to show up at a capital city. However this would be during early development before BFA was in the picture, but my suspicion is that whoever is responsible for the AR pairing a ratchet and clank fan. Vulpera by the time BFA was being datamined was mostly ready to go. At least with at this point, there is no longer a need to feel pick one over the other. The kelfin should be close partners with vulpera and goblins if ever playable.

He looks to me like a dark tiger shark or a large slightly more Great white shaped Sandbar shark.

Noted.

Here is the thing though about that. If blizzard is going to go through all the effort of doing all that, why not just make them new races? Plus the problem with having races that are merged with other ones is that some things don’t make sense for certain races. For example. Druids make the least bit of all races for land goblins, but excellent sense for gilgoblins. Having eredar that can’t be warlocks would be another big thing. What about mag’har that can be warlocks? Most of the skins they released don’t have issues with missing classes and gilgoblins have some unique geometry. So much would be lost by having them just a customization. Not to mention they could drown. Though granted you mentioned customizable racials.

Other examples. Goblins getting access to Kelfin stuff, this would include voice lines, new skin tones/ possibly dance associated with bodytype. And possibly new classes such as Gral Druids, and Kelfin Totems.

Might as well just be a new race if they are going to go that far. Mixing certain customizations with goblins would thematically clash with what they are like.

This would be for customization, mostly and normal goblins learning from their kin, those rare few who are interested. Ultimately it would be to pick our own story for the character. For all we know a regular goblin druid would just be like a hipster counterculture and doing other types of littering. Or maybe they could eventually get a robotic class skin for their druid forms so they would get access to mech forms via barbershop.

This is brainstorming, as it would be interesting in many regards to get these cosmetics somehow. And merging of races would bring overall more race/class comboes if you merge their races. For example merging humans and kul tirans would be great. The big body type would get access to warlocks and paladins, the stormwind human model would get access to druidism and shamanism. Picking racials would also be a great choice, you may want to choose a profession bonus racial instead of the rep racial if you are at the end of the game, or change it to the rep racial if you want to grind some rep.

This would open up to unlocking similar clan of humans down the line and overall be better as you can access new cosmetics as soon as you get access to. A complaint of allied races…

Note the kinks would get ironed out.

I mostly thought of this Idea when playing world of final fantasy. You can get a mirage and if you level it up unlock other mirages (and change them from the menu) or capture a different species mirage and change them if they are the same subspecies. Basically most similar looking mirages can change into the others after you either capture or level it up, which is pretty good for self-customization.

Basically it would be cool to work towards rewards for unlocking an allied race and use it on your own characters. Unlocking more racials too may be good for you to have more options, where you may not want the new looks. Adding more voicelines as packages would be a nice new thing to collect. For example having an outland maghar voicelines would enhance rp.

For goblins it would go like this in my scenario.
You have access to all goblin stuff and goblin classes baseline.
As you play the game blizzard adds a new allied race, Kelfins.
They have access to some other classes goblins normally don’t.
Kelfin can be druids! So you will get those forms unlocked on your goblin when you unlock kelfin.
Kelfin have unique dances, animations, skin tones, hair colors.
The base goblin hair colors will be mixed with kelfin hair colors! And most hairstyles.
Goblins will have access to the druid class with kelfin forms if you choose to have base goblin form.

Now they may add another patch one day. They added techmancers! So this questline would give druids access to mechanical forms. (Maybe from another planet for example). Your goblin will have access to these mech druid forms, and possibly some new spell effects if we get class skins.

Blizzard decides to add mechagoblins as an allied race…
Goblins will get access to mecha goblin customization! Your kelfin can choose now goblin stuff or mecha goblin stuff.

Blizzard decides to add fel goblin customization!
Blizzard decides to add mud goblin customization!
Blizzard decides to add eel goblin customization!
Eel goblins are paladins via lighting stuff… etc
Blizzard decides to add hell goblin customization!

The rewards could be earned by the goblin race and be equivalent to stuff like transmog or mounts eventually. And allow us to personalize our character stories.

Hang on. I see the value in what you are saying. I am going to read carefully and respond in a bit. Just responding early to let you know my thought process initially. Ill be back in a bit.

So I see what you are saying. Your idea by no means is suggesting worse version of gilgoblins be added, but that it merely become a choice that can be made when you make a goblin that comes with all kinds of added benefits that can be expanded on over time. Thats actually a great idea as does kind of add to the value or a central race. I could see it working. What I don’t like is when people who don’t like the idea merely say it should be relegated to a custom option ignoring the racials lore and all things like this. This is a system I can see working and I honestly don’t mind adding this to the thread as a potential alternative idea to allied race. This makes it so that if blizzard wanted to add more racial variants they could do this without people being upset about it as much. I still think allied race also works, but I am open to this suggestion too.

I think they should just revamp sort of what it means to be an allied race to customization (if the base race exists that’s very similar to it). It really felt bad for example for me not to be able to be a lightforged monk. It was very restrictive. If being lightforged was a customization option for example all dranei would have access to those cool looks, dranei would have the options to pick between yellow and blue eyes, and their would be cool mixing of the new hairstyles.

So this is what I would like blizzard when the subraces get their customization pass or at the start of the next expansion. I may make a thread about it but I doubt I will get replies.

It would be merging, Lightforged and dranei, maghar and orc, taurens, dwarves.

And it would open up blizzard to adding stuff for certain races something like the wildhammer tattoos, they could always add more stuff like actually wildhammer voicelines and druid class (since in lore they are some wildhammer druids).

And ultimately it would enhance our own character stories and rp.

The quality of the assets need not be bad at all. I love your ideas for kelfin customization, it seems it may need a different bodytype. But as we see now with barbershop we can already change our bodytypes! As genders. A feature I am enjoying on my characters and it could be enhanced with allied races.

And mix assets from older races, maghar with purple hair <3 for example or blackrock warlocks! With maghar skin tones and the new warpaints!

Blizzard said they would focus on custmozations this expansion too so they may as well sort of revamp what it means to be an allied race.

The only thing I am unsure of is stuff like vulpera? Would they get mixed with goblin stuff? Or have like a mongrel category to share assets in the future? My ideas have some kinks to iron out. But it could be a solution to what many people in the forums have complained about.

  1. Allied races having to have another toon? Instead you can use barbershop like how we originally wanted allied races to go. Sure you could start out as the allied race but it would be nice to have it as barbershop options.
  • This could give humans access to new classes and bodytypes over time, like the highly requested skinny kultiran models.
  1. It’s another form of racial progression. We could add heritage armors again to some races, like wildhammer heritage armor. Wildhammer druids.

  2. More rewards to chase in future expansions. Sort of getting sick of only mounts seen as major rewards, we got transmog, battle pets, toys, it would be fun to collect cosmetics that affect our person/appearance of the race.

  3. You don’t feel as bad if an allied race gets some customization, because your character may have access to those looks! For example I like trolls. Love zandalari, and I love the darkspear troll stuff. So if you could change bodytypes you could pick different looks. Blizzard have said they did not want to include more dwarf stuff because they just added dark iron dwarves? But if all dwarves had access to it, they may have more incentive to add more dwarf stuff like… mecha dwarf, stone dwarves, sand dwarfs, frost dwarves with icicle beards, dwarfs from different planets with different rocks. Basically more incentive to make old races cooler. Such as giving Tauren, highmountain, grimtotem, Taunka, and Yaungol options eventually.

This is where things get murky. I really think blizzard should have had a more clear setup for how allied races work from the get go. I think they should be their own race and get other customization. However I could just as well say gilgoblins could be made more unique and be made into their own race. Sometime I can try to do a model from scratch that shows them with a different body type. However take my character right now. If I had some fins, feet/hand webbing, glow in the dark eyes, the unique ears gilblins do and tatoos then it would be pretty spot on.

Well down the line I can see vulpera getting the color range from irl foxes, or maybe adding similar small creatures down the line with the golbin models for them, like meerkats or something.

But the idea is going off of comments I’ve said in the past like Highmountain Tauren and Lightforged Dranei should have been customization options.

I am excited to see what the allied race customization pass is like, and I do hope blizzard considers merging them for a better cosmetic acquisition down the line. I would like my goblin to go to barbershop and be a kelfin for example, and maybe something like a hell goblin down the line (love that idea as I love picturing a devil and angel on my goblin and the devil goblin always winning).

I do NOT remember where I heard this, but someone told me the devs originally planned to give ALL races access to robotic arms, feet, and helm transmogs that look like the options we got in Mechagnomes. But it was too much work they only did it for Gnomes and made it an AR.

OT: love the idea OP, I don’t play Horde but I still love them and I fully support this.

On the Alliance side, I’d like to have the Jinyu.
