Something interesting note. In some ways gilgoblins are one of the requested races that have it the least bad of another requested playable races. Ill explain why:
We have many ways we can look like gilgoblins especially after customization came out along with several toys that really help add to the experience.
Gilgoblins have established lore and nazjatar effectively works in some ways like a gilblin starting zone. You can quest out there with the unshackled, and there is loads of lore and quests surrounding them out there.
They are the only non playable race we helped in bfa that actually showed up at a capital city meaning they will to some degree remain relevant as time passes.
Not even Sethrak and Ankoan got this kind of treatement. However. The big downside is that fans of gilgoblins had to content with having their hopes crushed as more and more evidence came out for Vulpera; A race which is at least in the present iteration more popular than gilgoblins. BFA and prepatch were the primary times it seemed like a race like this would join. So now. If they are going to be playable, it likely won’t be for quite some time.
Why would blizzard add the kelfin to durotar shores the same patch that vulpera were added? There had to have been a reason. I think they may have unofficially joined the horde. Some have said it could be that there were originally planned and thats leftovers from old data. Thing that makes it even more suspicious is that Ankoan, sethrak, tortollans and some other races we helped in bfa didn’t come to a capital city. Though tbh it would have been cool from a purely lore perspective if they did.
Who the alliance helped on multiple different expansions before. I wonder if blizzard just isn’t into the idea of aquatic races being playable. I remember reading naga were supposed to be playable in classic, but they decided against the idea for a few reasons:
Trouble with mounts.
Their home is in the seas.
However blizzard was also owned by a different company back then. Blizzard was bought and owned by like 26 different companies since it was first founded.
Yea. There is many races out there that would make an excellent addition to this game. This is definitely one of them. Missed opporunity though. They would have made excellent same faction pairings with Vulpera. That said. It could still happen if they ever end up joining.
I fully support the addition of an aquatic race… and also specifically kelfin. Their potential is astonishingly vast as an AR, and I find them distinctly Horde. If they get in, I hope to see a few NPC interactions as more of them come face-to-face with our ol’ fashioned land goblins.
Yea. A lot of people like to write them off as a lazy reskin race, but given that their models aren’t updated I’d say this leaves a lot of potential room for improvement. Throughout my thread you will all kinds of ideas I’ve posted for how to really flesh them out and make them unique. Plus the interactions between them and goblins could be quite interesting.
Kelfin and goblin interaction would be swell to see. The rather self serving Goblins and the selfless group before the individual selflessness of the Kelfin would be amazing to see.
If gilgoblins become playable that would make great partners with vulpera although as with goblins as they would have some interesting dynamics. I don’t think they fleshed out the story for vulpera well enough tbh.
I can imagine a Goblin from Gawlowe’s crew working with one of the Vulpera scavengers being assisted by a Kelfin freedom fighter.
It would be an interesting partnership. Plus imagine how effective the Horde’s resource management and allocation would be after such a get together of three separate races that are rather effective at that.
Funny thing though. There was evidence that gilblins were smarter than they were letting on back in cata. This is because the venture co actually employed some gilblins as seen here.
You can see here under the list of employed races that gilblins are listed there. I just believe they were like they were in cata cause of either the naga or nzoth’s influence or its just the kelfin were different.
Probably either the Naga/N’zoth thing since they like to mindtake or maybe the previous Gilgoblins just saw no reason to speak to what they viewed as food or enemies.
They’re likely “small fish” in the ocean so they probably focus more on survival.
The Kelfin banded together with huge sea giants and armored Makrura, so they can organize more and be less hostile. Plus the enemy of their enemy is their friend. So being good to the Horde was beneficial.
I don’t know if they are as intelligent as land goblins, but they are definitely at least average intelligence.
