The "just go play era" argument

i think the point he is getting at i that blizzard is kind of bastardizing the wrath experience just enough to make people that would have loved the classic experience flee to pservers or back to pservers. Blizzard is absolutely 100% being tone deaf with some of the stuff they’re attempting and are pulling. maybe what they want is to be done with pservers so they will continue to up the anti.

It’s like you can read my mind OP.

100% agree with what you said.

I doubt Wrath Andy’s wanna play a vanilla private server no matter how big it is lol. They want a casual retail game not a living breathing MmO

Eh warmanes buttcheeks ascension and ever look only decent servers but I don’t trust ps in general after losing 4 geared out characters on nost

wasn’t nost hosted like in the US? like no S*** homie you were gonna lose your geared toons.

It was hosted in France.

I don’t know if Blizz could have legally shut them down. A cease and desist could be as useful as toilet paper overseas. The Nost guys agreed to close it.

for ever nost there is one giving wow the middle finger and i salute them for that middle finger.

People always want something don’t they? You ask for classic wow, you get it, it’s not good enough, you ask for fresh servers, you get them, they’re not good enough. It’s not even “just go play” at this point, it’s just stop whining. Maybe this just isn’t the game for you.

i mean we did, but blizzard always wants to throw a bunch garbage in with the good. weighing the good down with a bunch of unnecessary dumb baggage. they’ve caused this scenario.

The problem is that the garbage they throw in is requested by the community. There’s always a side that wants one thing and the side that wants not that thing. Not everyone is going to win.

i don’t think you’re being too honest about this. blizzard said no RDF. but in the next breath said heroic +. no one asked for these changes to the expansion. no one.

They didn’t ask about any of this in their Wrath survey. They asked about micro-transactions. They asked about boosts and mounts, and what players would be willing to pay for them.

That is what they care about. Amazing people haven’t realized that yet.

What’s particularly stupid is they’re actively putting work into things they know most people don’t want, H+, a bad version of the LFG Tool instead of RDF etc…

As I’ve said before: they’re trying to pad their resumes. It doesn’t really say much if they just re-release a game as it was without any changes. Nothing to point to to showcase their amazing design skills. And the things they can point to (the broken, buggy Wintergrasp for example) have been disasters.

I think there was genuine respect by them for Vanilla Classic. They wanted it to be authentic, and it very much was. But then one of the worst things that could happen happened…it was wildly successful. And as Steve Jobs predicted in a famous interview what happens when a company is successful? The sales and marketing teams take over. And that’s what happened starting with TBCC. You had the Deluxe Edition, the Boost, the Clone Service. Classic became about ‘How do we milk these players?’ At the same time authenticity and the quality of the experience took a nosedive.

It’s ridiculous how little effort they’ve put into Wrath Classic. Besides not being able to get RDF to work, they can’t even get the Quest Helper to work. So their efforts go not towards making the game as it was, but rather putting their stamp on it. And their stamp is garbage.

normally i try and avoid things like conspiracy theories. but i seriously think at this point Blizzard wants to present such a piss poor iteration of the game lacking in the legitimate features that were their originally and add in a bunch of crap that was never there, that was never asked for (i’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t mind if t was like in the last 6 months or in a SoM for wrath) but the point is this feels like an attempt to go to the players and be like look we gave you what you wanted and you rejected it you guys just don’t want the classic experience. we will be shuttering after classic wrath expires. the vanilla server will remain active, but wrath any left over servers will be shut down. i just can’t help but feel like we’re being set up for a gas lighting from blizzard.

It’s an easy money maker. I look at it more like…‘We know players will buy a Deluxe Edition and play no matter what garbage we release, so no point in actually putting any effort into it.’ Why not just keep releasing old expansions and raking in millions of dollars?

Another example would be the bot situation. You can’t look at what’s going on and think they care one iota about the integrity of the game. Private servers run by people in their basements do a better job combating bots. Blizz does. not. care. Month long tickets to get a response? In what world is that acceptable? Their customer service is the worst in the industry. This company deserves all the hate it gets.

BUT they were once great, and they’re living off that past success. So even a crappy version of their old games attracts interest, and they know it.

Vanilla is a cold turd that needs to be put to bed. You’re post is

Vanilla was fun because 1) there was no frame of reference for what could be better and 2) datamining didn’t ruin content before it even came out.

You could build your character in a whacky way and still outplay others who had a so-called “meta” build. And you didn’t always know exactly where to go or how to do a quest, etc etc.

You must be injecting blizzard juice straight into your veins if you honestly want a second clone of pure vanilla servers just for a third iteration of “world firsts”. No one cares about world firsts in vanilla. That feat was already taken decades ago.

Not only do I disagree, but I hope blizz takes a swing in the other direction and kills these nonsense blast from the past servers.

It’s just a waste of man-hours they could be investing in genuinely new content we haven’t seen and lived before.

I’m not sure I’ve ever actually seen someone telling people to just play Era.

Anyways, people who specifically want to keep other players from being able to play a different version of the game they like are just losers. People saying “DON’T make fresh realms” or “DON’T release Cataclysm Classic” or “DON’T do Season of Mastery” seem like they only get pleasure from being trolls and disagreeing for the sake of disagreement.

On a topic like dungeon finder (sorry to bring that up), people often like to say “It doesn’t affect you if I have what I want”, which is quite incorrect. Both sides in that situation want an outcome that will have some effect on the other. But in the case of a literally completely separate game being released, there isn’t much of a reasonable argument to be made that it’s going to affect them.

Yeah the best time for vanilla classic is pre raid, where the classes were moderately balanced. Once even MC / Ony geared it becomes pretty silly in pvp.

T2 warriors are broken, during T3 teams were stacking like 8/15. Nevermind the 25/40 raids
