The game was also new at that time. With all of the info and knowledge out there it should take a fraction of the time to get leveled up. I work 8-10 hours a day and am married and i was able to do it.
Besides, this is what happend in vanilla and we all fought through it.

You’re posting on a lvl 10 retail toon telling everyone in every post to go back to retail. Relax turbo. Clearly you want people to leave.
vanilla didn’t launch with mara either. you knew right away this wasn’t 100% the same game.
If someone went into your favorite store and demanded they stopped selling your favorite item, or even an item that you enjoyed purchasing and you knew the store owner would try their best to make literally everyone happy, you’d either try to find somewhere else online to buy it, or tell the guy to go find a different store if their purchase options offended them so much.
Your personal attacks only tell me that you don’t have any real point to make. What I choose as my avatar is my business and it has no bearing on the validity of my opinions.
If you do not like the game, you need to stop playing it. Don’t demand that the devs force everybody to play the way you want them to play.
There is a game that’s exactly like this, but with extremely friendly PvP options and free loot/levels. They made that game for you.
At this point I’m questioning if you even shop at the store you’re trying to defend so hard, given you’re toting half a dozen bags from a competitor.

Interesting approach. How about you don’t demand changes to something you obviously don’t enjoy. If you don’t like the game, you shouldn’t be playing it. Sounds logical to me.

I am a L51 on the minority faction on my server and I find it quite playable.
Full disclosure: I’m a Horde who rolled on the rp server. I recommend that anybody who is considering taking a hiatus because classic is unplayable on your server, and/or who is looking to do bgs, can do this on retail while you’re waiting for sanity to return to your server. There is an early AV version that can earn you a retail mount. This does not give gear, but bg wins do give decent gear.
It’s something to consider if you’re looking for real pvp for a bit.
Every server could be different. Yours is likely atypical, not proof of anything.
Camping and aggresive horde was always a thing back in the day just probably not as bad as what’s being described. If you don’t want this pvp gameplay on a pvp server than reroll on pve. I am playing on a pve server because I don’t want to be forced into pvp situations when I am not in the mood for it. It’s not very fun.
That could be said for every OP in every whine thread from the past few days. The OP is the one who made a gross generalization.
I am a leveler, on the minority faction, and a prime level for honor for a L60.
I am not finding it unplayable.
