The High Elf Love Thread đŸ„°

The difference is all the other ARs either had history, their own zone, or in the case of the mag’har story in BC plus the entirety of WoD to flesh them out.

Void elves had a intro quest and they live on a rock. They’ve opened some portals, animated dinos with void magic, and failed to deal with Gallywix.

It’s a rule of storytelling: characters (in this case, races) that are well rounded and fleshed out are easier to write, and end up being used more.

It’s no wonder the Legion allied race that got more roles in BfA are the nightborne, which were already the most developed race from Legion.

Meanwhile, void elves couldn’t get protagonism despite this being the voidest expansion we ever got.

I absolutely adore your outfit, ignore mine I just change back to this heritage armor every other day because it shows off my abs when running places

Because they’re Blood Elves that have turned into Void Elves.

What were Void Elves doing prior to Legion?. They were being Blood Elves.

We also know some things about the Void and about Void tainted creatures, so we can deduct that they have immense willpower to be able to overcome magics that have crippled and destroyed others.

So, a race of headcanon, not canon.

No. Using critical thinking and context.

If the Void previously had destroyed creatures, but it did not destroy these creatures, how is it head canon to put two and two together?

Edit: It was actually confirmed that it’s discipline keeping the voices at bay, not that it needed to be. Wowee.

And night elves failed to defend their tree and are homeless, and?

I kinda get the impression these (Umbric) and his followers, were probably like most of their race after the Scourge, stuck with them, but when things got better and they rebuilt Silvermoon, they probably were just in Quel’thalas with their kin while studying the Void, not particularly overly patriotic to the Horde (I just mention this because a lot of people love to point out that BE’s switching up to horde then alliance is flip flopping)

I don’t buy that elves have alliegance to anything but themselves, tbh. Void Elves would’ve gone home if they hadn’t been exiled.

No I agree, but I also don’t think this group that was studying Void, was out like Liadrin and her blood knights being an arm of the Horde either, which makes sense that they were amiable to the Alliance because a lot of BE’s talk about Silvermoon like they prefer to stay there removed from things.

I also would argue that since we have been exiled in our pursuit of power we seem sort of like the Forsaken were years ago when they joined the Horde, that’s what makes us interesting

People can interpret things differently, especially when the context is vague.

If people refused to believe Sylvanas is evil for years, despite all her atrocities, what to say of Umbric, of which we know nothing beyond the shallowest details of his mindset and purpose?

Just because you came to a conclusion does not mean everyone will reach the same result. And since we don’t have canon confirmation of anything, it’s impossible to settle which interpretation is right.

Who are the true void elves? Are they the ones Umbric describes, or the ones exemplified by the maddened Riftrunners the Horde fights?

Yeah, the night elf army being diverted while the horde ambushed teldrassil and burned its innocents alive is exactly the same as failing to capture one lazy goblin.

Well like so many people like to talk about numbers, there’s not as many of us as there are Night Elves well
 were there’s less now I guess

But for being so established and ancient being tricked and outsmarted with all the resources of the Night Elves does seem to speak volumes on your own races failures imo, Malfurioun being shocked they scaled Felwood, like really? My man really left part of the forest unchecked and was like but how are they coming from the north AWE YES FELWOOD

ALSO the scale of your failure vs the scale of our failure isn’t really comparable shrugs

Alliance High Elves and Horde Blood Elves would make High/Blood Elves a repeat of the Pandas. It would be the exact same race on both Factions. Void Elves was an attempt to actually have them be visually distinct races.

You failed to take into account the level of Sylvanas’ plot armor.

But maybe the devs also are in love with gallywix.

Sylvanas is an undead thalassian elf. Blood Elves are formerly fel tainted thalassian elves, Void elves are void thalassian elves so perhaps given that logic Thalassian plot armor coupled with something that makes them different will be good for the Alliance!

Spoiler I guess
As of 8.3 Gallywix is no longer the Goblin faction leader Gazlowe is the Trade Prince now.

Gazlowe is an awesome choice for Goblin Faction leader if you are aware of his history going all the way back to being a WC3 Horde Hero.

Oh I know that. Gazlowe is far better. But maybe if they wanted to build void elves up they could have let them win against Gallywix since he was going to be replaced anyway.

Oh, I’m not saying that Void Elves got a good introduction. I think they should have used Void Elves on Antorus instead of those Broken Cousins. That way Alliance could have had some good lore and backstory for the new race
not just Oh Look! Purple Elves for Alliance!

Repost: If I were given the mission to define void elves, I’d:

Recruitment Questline

  • Include the Silver Covenant and Alleria’s lieutenants in the story, helping her track Umbric in Ghostlands. Would use that to reintroduce several high elf characters that would be turned into void elves: Auric Sunchaser, Taela Everstride, Theloria Shadecloak, Summoner Nolric. I’d give each gossip text explaining their reasons for following Alleria.
  • In the Telogrus part of the recruitment, I’d make the above lieutenants plus a squad of Silver Covenant rangers go with Alleria and the player. They’d be captured and turned into void elves together with Umbric’s group.
  • I’d explore Umbric a bit more during the fight in Telogrus, making him be trapped latter, and giving him chances to show his personality, his ideals and devotion to his followers.
  • At the end of the storyline, a brief conversation between Vereesa (still a high elf) and Alleria, to show how the high elves react to the transformed void elves.

Racial hub

  • Rather than just Telogrus, I’d make Quel’danil a small high/void elf town. Void elf players would start in Telogrus, but the portal would lead to Quel’danil. The portal to/from Stormwind would be in the town rather than in the rift.
  • I’d establish through gossip text in Quel’danil and Telogrus that the void/high elves would have a relationship like worgen/gilneans, in that only the former are playable but their lore would be intertwined from now on. Void elves would be like an elite force of defenders of their gestalt society, with people carefully chosen to join their ranks.
  • I’d also show there’s two clashing phylosophies among void elves: Umbric’s, based on studying and acquiring power, and Auric’s, who thinks the void elf path must not be abused, as it is a sacrifice for the good their people and should not be taken lightly.
  • Class trainers in Quel’danil/Telogrus would be: Instructor Duskwalker (Mage), Theloria Shadecloak (Rogue), Taela Everstride (Hunter), Summoner Nolric (Warlock), Ennas and Lyria Skystrider (Priests), Kriss Goldenlight (monk, still a high elf)
  • Here’s how I’d update Quel’danil (Telogrus portal would be in the cave):

Stories

  • I’d use Stormsong to explore the void elves. Instead of the Horde being just chaotic evil and attacking Brennadan, it would be void elves investigating the void in the region. A high elf apprentice would be under trial to show his worth to become a void elf. I’d explore their morality and how they learn to control their abilities.
  • Then, during the questline, we find out the Horde building their base, and we sabotage using the void to weaken them (leading to the Horde questline in Stormsong, when their base is under attack). At the end of the successful campaign, I’d show the apprentice becoming a void elf.
  • I’d put Umbric and Auric working together in the war campaign, to showcase their different ways of thinking as they bicker among themselves.

Other

  • I’d update the Priest Ennas/Lyria Skystrider event in Silvermoon, now with them as void elves preaching to recruit blood elves. This time, when the magisters summon someone to silence them, Ennas would stun the magisters with a void attack, while Lyria would open a portal for them to escape.

Appearance

  • I’d try to give them at least some “normal-ish” skins, like in the images bellow. Something not quite healthy, still purple-ish, but less blue.

  • I’d also add silver-blue (like Alleria in void form) and reddish hair colors.
  • They should have tattoo options like Alleria’s, in colors like violet, deep blue and red.

That alone would make the void elves a thousand times more interesting, and somewhat more varied in appearance. Also, it could potentially avoid the entire high elf discussion that followed their introduction and still plague the forums to this day.

And I can get behind that to an extent. I just don’t think people need to disparage Void Elves to pine for High Elves.

They can always do work on a lot of races to make them better or changed this or that, and Alleria is a HE and she’s one of our leaders, and she considers the Sin’dorei of Quel’thalas her kin she doesn’t call them distant she doesn’t refer to them the way Rommath or Liadrin say they relate to nightborne she considers them KIN, so Blizzard just went a different route introducing Void Elves is all, but I do like yours as well
