The High Elf Love Thread šŸ„°

You apparently havenā€™t gotten what the concept of a microcosm is?

Isnā€™t that part of what defines a blood/high elf? But you want them to lose something and become less of a high/blood elf just to get what you want, access to the complete theme/aesthetic of a blood elf. To throw away lore and make them something they are not. So saying itā€™s all about the lore was just a strawman correct?

What does them cutting ties with the sunwell have to do with them becoming playable? They can be playable regardless.i think its a cool story idea so I am discussing it with another player, not stating that they have to cut their need for the sunwell to become playable. That was someone elses deal.

ā€œTheir original eye colorā€

Do we honestly even know what that is? In WC2 they were white, in vanilla/classic and in comics thereā€™s multiple colors, in the warbringer Sylvanas cinematic we see natural brown eyes

It sounds like you guys should be arguing for a lot more than just blue eyes. To some it may feel like youā€™re asking specifically for blue out of spite for those who want playable High Elves, since blue eyes have been used on Alliance Queā€™dorei more often than not

Just saying, itā€™d be best to take that step just so there isnā€™t any misunderstandings

As for everything else, weā€™ll just have to agree to disagree. Iā€™m well aware that a majority of the thalassian race was retconed back into being and joined the Horde. Iā€™d just like to play as one of the Alliance loyalists that still call themselves High Elves

Because you want them to discard something established as important to them. You want to them discard anything you can to distance them from blood elves.

Me? Or someone else?

I will just say this: I am not making that suggestion in regards to the blood elf/high elf relationship at all. They dont need to discard anything. New story happens and to me that would be a good story. Anything beyond that is someone trying to read more into it than what is there for an agenda.

Population doesnā€™t matter when you and every paladin wields the one and only Ashbringer. If it would bother you that I would play one of the few remaining Quelā€™dorei, Iā€™m assuming it bothers you that every Death Knight was raised as Arthasā€™ champion, or that every Demon Hunter became the leader of the Illidari. High Elves exist in the Alliance, thereā€™s enough of them around

(I canā€™t quote people, so please excuse how sloppy thia post is going to be)

ā€œBlood Elves are our High Elves.ā€ The distinction isnā€™t that important because like I said I agreed with him. High Elves, Blood Elves, they are the same race. It wouldā€™ve been weird if they added High Elves as a core Alliance race at the time. Then allied races came along and shook that rule up

I donā€™t want to play as a Blood Elf that joined the Horde then later joined the Alliance, I want to play as a High Elf loyalist that chose his friends over his kin. Selecting a race more than anything is selecting your background. This character is a recruit from Stormwind, not a human of Alterac or Kul Tiras. Regardless itā€™d be totally fine to add other types of playable humans

Thereā€™s multiple flavors of humans out there, likewise there are multiple flavors of High/Blood Elves. To think otherwise is to impose self restrictions as to what an allied race can be

We all know the discussions is centered around blue eyes as thatā€™s generally their hallmark. I donā€™t consider an alliance race of high elves being plausible in the least due to all the reasons already stated, so blue eyes for blood elves makes the most sense.

We all know many of the older artworks/etc donā€™t really hold as much weight (otheriwse thereā€™d be farstriders everywhere with blue (or red now) tatts like Alleria, in Silvermoon/etc) and that artistic license can be used. Blue is considered their original eye color now after wowā€™s been around for so long and itā€™s associated with the pre-corrupted sunwell high/blood elves (because the name happened before fel usage.)

Thereā€™s no misunderstanding, blue eyes should be an option for blood elves AND Iā€™m against alliance getting a copy of a horde race. If the blue eyed option for blood elves forever dooms the alliance getting a carbon copy of a horde race then Iā€™m for that as wellā€¦itā€™s a cherry on top versus the main drive. Itā€™d be nice to have the finality.

I dunno, itā€™s pretty fun to discuss

Everything that could be discussed has already been discussed. All thatā€™s left is Helfer fanfiction.

But the warbringer Sylvanas cinematic was very recent, and they had brown eyes. Where is it written that every single thalassian had blue eyes? In truth itā€™s something we just donā€™t know, which is why Iā€™d advocate for various eye colors. Red, blue, glowing, non glowing, etc

I genuinely hope you get them, too

Iā€™ve been having some pretty fun debates, and I feel as though Iā€™ve made some friends in the process. I wonā€™t speak for everyone, but thatā€™s why Iā€™m here

There is a mute thread option for threads you dont want to see anymore. If you scroll down to the bottom theres an icon with a drop down list and thats how you change the settings.

Lol He knows Kirela.

Heā€™s pretended heā€™s ā€œnewā€ every new High Elf thread.

Heā€™s just yet another anti troll trying to silence the topic.

Like ā€œeverythingā€™s been talked about so stop talking about itā€ even matters, weā€™re allowed to talk about what we wanā€™t on the forums, thatā€™s the point.

Why do you care?

Sheā€™s got blue eyes in HoTs, etc, and many other artistic (official) depictions have them blue/greyish, Warbrginers wasnā€™t highly accurate in this regard especially since the majority of high elves are only ever shown with blue golwing eyes due to the arcane addiction to the arcane sunwell.

Unless you think most of the pro high elfers want brown eyed elves and wonā€™t vomit with rage over not getting blue eyed onesā€¦watch how thatā€™d go over. Many were already vehemently upset as soon as void elves were launched and tried to do everything they could to get fair skinned blue eyed elves.

If an alliance allied race (which would be weird since they already have one in the form of void elves, even beyond the fact the race is already playable as horde,) of high elf was added to the alliance fans would demand by and large fair skin and blue eyes and thatā€™s what blizzard would add. Not fair skin and brown eyes, or purple, or white.

Blue eyes has been at the center of the debate, regardless if elves can have other eye colors or not (imo blizz seems to mostly be basing if off what type of magic influences them the most now,) and the end point is that adding a Horde race to the Alliance (because thatā€™s what would be happening) is a bad idea. Itā€™s literally a carbon copy with an eye color change, none of the non-horde based high elves have had enough time to change anything meaningful to make an new race, nor are the alliance ones representative of the main faction of their race. Dark Iron/etc donā€™t count since they remained on their faction with main playable version.

Blizzard isnā€™t going to add playable Alliance high elves (that arenā€™t Renā€™dorei, technically,) and theyā€™ve been pretty clear about it over more than a decade with fresh quotes and developer comments. It would seem theyā€™re more invested in the actual race, blood elves that are playable, and the offshoot of the main race that changes and moves the alliance ones forward, void elves.

Blue eyes as an option makes the most sense for blood elves, adding a copy of a race thatā€™s thriving and playable is nonsensical.

In most servers, horde majorly outnumber the alliance. Most of the guilds in raid progression are Horde. If High Elves redress the balance, that would make the game better. After all, you can only enjoy ganging up on a hapless Alliance toon 5:1 for so long

And I mentioned that was a legal matter. High elves are not.

Point still stands that it was something that was majorly desired by the fanbase and was initially put off and ignored, until it couldnā€™t be ignored any longer.

I disagree. I also donā€™t think blue eyes is the make or break deal for a majority of the pro Helf crowd. But we can ask. Ill poke around in the discord as well to get a better idea

Would any of the pro Helf people here be opposed to a playable Alliance Quelā€™dorei allied race with non-blue glowing eyes?

What makes you think itā€™s nonsensical when it would probably have the same effect to the Alliance, which is in decline. Not that High Elves would instantly fix that, thereā€™s plenty wrong with the game, but a long-time requested race canā€™t hurt, especially with how easy it is to do it now with ARs.

BTW, we already have a copy of your race in Void Elves, so weā€™re past your ā€œnonsensicalā€ line.

And they did that without breaking lore, as you suggest in your idea.

Two things can be true at once; making Classic meets the demands of the crowd, and it provides IP protection. Both were likely a factor
