You’re looking for a group for Deadmines. What do you call it? VC or DM?
DM, Dire Maul is differentiated by a N E and a W to signify what wing you’re doing (Lfm DMW, for example). Or better yet just don’t abbreviate, we don’t use flip phones anymore.
LFM VanCleef
This thread has already been done here numerous times. And it’s DM. There is no debate and never has been.
I just type Deadmines fully in order to avoid this stupid debate.
I always thought it was “LFM Goonies”
Almost always seen Deadmines=VC, personally.
Maybe the solution is to make nobody happy and call them “ogre town” and “banditville”
Probably worth pointing out that Dire Maul wasn’t even in the game when vanilla launched, so there would have been literally no reason to refer to Deadmines as “VC”. Usage of “DM” would have been well established by the time Dire Maul was released. As mentioned previously, Dire Maul was usually referenced as East/West or a tribute run, so there wasn’t generally much confusion around it.
On the server I was on, Kirin Tor, Deadmines was DM and Dire Maul was DM North, DM West, or DM East
On the Realms I played on it was DM.
Idk man that makes me pretty happy.
It has always been and will always be VC for me.
When I was a noob and looking for a group for deadmines, I put in westfall general chat: “lfg dm”. A veteran player explain to me about vc, because people would think I want to do diremaul, and that would be confusing.
ya but u started playing in wrath so you don’t count.
anyone that played from vanilla launch knows its DM. dire maul is DME, DMW, DMN or DMT. DM is deadmines. anyone that calls it VC is prolly from late vanilla, TBC or Wrath. it seems like a good way to spot someone whos not a true vanilla player.
Deadmines = DM.
Not necessarily. I recall there being a shift on Proudmoore to Deadmines being called VC to differentiate it from Dire Maul - despite the fact that there are three separate wings to Dire Maul. You never know, someone may want to do all three wings with the same party…
It’s a bit elitist to assume that just because someone knew it as VC they aren’t purebred vanilla. Yes, I started playing in April 2005, so Dire Maul was already well established by the time I was a high enough level to do it (it was released with patch 1.3, March 2005). By then, I think people had made the adjustment to different acronyms.
I always thought VC was a EU thing that started on PSs. Dire Maul was never just DM though, you had to specify which wing.
I still remember the first time I heard it called VC.
Someone was posting “anyone want to go kill VC?” in trade.
My reaction was a bit odd, not connecting it with Deadmines at all, but having served in the Army in the early 70s it had other connotations.
Started in 2004 actually… And on any server I tried back then I distinctly recall people saying LFM VC.
