I personally loved this in BFA and I theory crafted an idea that I think would be an awesome addition to the game for our pvp community.
Currently, if you want to duel you go outside stormwind or orgrimmar, awkwardly stand around, check for snipers, and then finally approach a stranger, right click them if they’re standing still for long enough, and select duel.
Imagine,
A dedicated space where duel enjoyers could walk in at any time and challenge friends, enemies, or random opponents like in the current unrated matchmaking system.
You can earn rewards like titles, mounts, pets, transmogs for things like win streaks, beating a certain class X amount of times, turning it around after surviving at 1hp, blowing someone up in less than 3 seconds, and any other creative achievements that go along with the theme for pvp.
You would earn a sort of currency that would work towards some of the those rewards.
In my fantasy, theres a very mean mugging looking NPC that resets your CDs for a small price so you can get back into the action sooner. He can also repair your gear after you have taken a beating and offers ales in case you need to drink your sorrows away.
There would be an option to host events and a nice seating area for spectators who lean more towards the side of peace but enjoy a good mauling maybe on Tuesday nights and want to cheer on their friends.
There would be an option to make it interesting where players could wager either gold or Duelers Guild currency to work towards that gold cap or that epic mount thats 5000 Duelers Guild coins at the rewards vendor.
I envision a place where legends are born. A place where you walk in and see that players name on the leaderboard and think to yourself "today is the day i finally beat them.
You walk up to the console to see that they are already waiting for someone to challenge them. You confidently strut over to the dueling NPC in front of that egirl youve been trying to impress for years and put up the coins.
I want a type of place where when you walk in people turn their head and say damn thats Kinndy the gnome mage who always fails to iceblock but somehow has the transmog for 1k dueling wins.
In my world there is a leaderboard on the wall that lets you know who the big dogs are this week. Who has the most wins, the highest win streak, and other interesting stats that I will leave up to the hero developer who reads this and follows through on this epic idea.
With wow committing to upgrading the games modes and features that made this game what it is today, I feel now is the time to add dueling to that list for future improvements. Who’s with me.
