Title says it all.
Might be an interesting topic is Blizzard was making a new game.
ilevel is a terrible addition, but it was an addon first before ActiBlizz incorporated it.
It was an addon that allowed players to see it. Ilvl has always been there.
right because being inspected by a raid leader, or not having the right talents/gems/enchants wasnt cancer before ilvl.
stoppppp
I will just remind people of Tanks wearing cloth to meet ilvl requirements. This kind of stuff came with WotLK not before.
I didn’t start playing until WotLK back in like '09. Can someone ELi5 why ilvl’s is so bad? is it because it isn’t a reflection of how good a player is? like someone saying they have a 5.2k gearscore or something and actually being terrible?
The memories of people mentioning their “wowkings” gearscore when looking for groups.
Fond memories.
that’s exactly it.
Assumed as much, just wanted to check. Thanks for the clarification!
Yee no problem. yeah ilvls (Item Level) is gearscore they are synonymous
and gearscore just being a summation of total ilvl’s from what i understand. so that makes sense.
The antics you claim came with WotLK have been player antics all along. IlvL being visible didn’t change that.
Inspecting people for gear and achievements has always been a thing.
Imo gear score was better than item level.
Item level treats all slots the same when determining the average.
Gear score weights item based on their significance.
With item level player A with all 264 gear except a 210 pair of bracers is the same item level as a different person in all 264 gear except a 210 weapon.
With our wonderful LFG tool get ready to booted from lot of groups (after you help summon) for not having high enough ilevel.
I didn’t know it had weights built into it, gearscore that is. i assumed it was just a simple addition of all ilvl’s divided by the number of items. Interesting to know
RDF topics need adequate representation
Uh…no. blizz simply streamlined gear and optimized stats such that higher ilvl items were overall better than lower ilvl items. That wasn’t the case in tbc and vanilla since itemization was all over the place.
Ilvl checking is a byproduct of it being a fairly accurate summation of your gear quality.
My favorite was in WoD when you could go into ashran for the boosted ilvl and queue up.
Not gonna lie I did it a few times.
Or was item level’s downfall caused by RDF’s lack of social consequence?
