That’s why era players tried SoD, it’s not why WotLKC or retail players tried SoD, and they drastically outnumber era players.

You’re talking about retail, era and all this stuff no one cares about.
I’m talking about vanilla. WoW peaked in 2009 and for the past 15 years, Blizzard has implemented design and mechanics that pushed away majority of their playerbase. And now it looks like history will repeat itself in a shorter time frame with SoD

Blizzard is trying to appeal to what current players they have across all versions.
They tried pushing a more vanillaish world and it didn’t retain players. Now they’re trying something else to keep people around in SoD.
SoD isn’t meant to last forever, but they’d probably like people to stick around until TWW/Cata.

This is a mistake. Retail expansion is coming out soon for people that want retail qol changes. Classic should stay classic. I would argue even wotlk is edging on retail with flying and all of its end game qol.
There is no point making sod more like retail. Keep them different games for a larger audience like runescape

Not sure how you’re making a jump from what I said to saying SoD was more popular than original classic. I was showing that vanilla classic was not the most popular version of classic overall and also pointed out that original classic had two huge advantages to peak population (a pandemic and classic being an entirely new concept) yet it still didn’t peak as high as WotLKC.
SoD is meant to fill the gap until TWW and Cata release. I don’t think it was ever intended to compete with them.
Do you have a source on the actual numbers? People use IF pro because raid logs are the only method of tracking players at all, since blizzard no longer releases the numbers

saying nobody played classic vanilla in 2019 and linking classic vanilla raid logs from iron forge and comparing it to wotlk raiding population and saying wotlk has more overall players is just wrong.
Everybody knows classic vanilla isnt all about the raiding and that most people cant get to raiding as the devs have said in the past, its a dishonest use of statistics to try prove classic vanillia in 2019 had no players

The god damned gall it takes to sum up the entire Classic season as just a waiting room for new retail expansions.
This is precisely why the retail crowd deserves no say in Classic design direction. They don’t care about the game beyond filling gaps in the games they actually care about.
