For those that don’t know, at the beginning of dragonflight a bunch of top Crafters got together and started a Discord that ended up spanning every major server and thousands of people.
What is Discord was used for was to post screenshots of anybody doing popular crafts for under standardized price and set by the crafting cartel and people would go on and mass report that person to get them banned at least temporarily.
Well through the work of some awesome people, the cartel was mostly taken down. The discords were shut down and Blizzard handed out some suspensions for many of them for abusing the reporting system.
But it seems the cartel is starting to make a come back. Crafters who work for tips on Stormrage Alliance have disappeared. Several of my crafting friends got suspended by bots mass reporting them. Now people want 10-20k for recrafts and a lot more for first time crafts. Right now we are mobilizing people but haven’t found the discords they are using yet. But we will, just like last time lol.
There was a time Blizzard cared enough to do something. Now your lucky to even get something back from them that isn’t the copy paste intro greetings and sorry they can’t help you blah blah.
Best thing to do is let the economy crash and pick up the pieces. Then maybe people will care more then.
Usually they say tips. But what happens is, people ask prices and if they undercut the cartel will screenshot on the discord server then people will log into their toons on that server and all click report text.
This is why I dislike GDKPs. I don’t mind them in theory, but lots of them are ran dishonestly and as a way for the raid leader to accumulate a mass amount of gold to sell IRL.
I legit had a friend tell me her husband does this in classic all the time. (I assume gold sells for more in Classic. /shrug) It’s some BS.
That’s sad and pathetic. But I guess where and however people see a way to exploit a system to make money they will. Even in a computer game.
What always boggles my mind though are the vast numbers of willing participants (players) that pay the prices to feed the machine n the first place. It’s the simplest concept ever n a business transaction— if people refuse to pay obnoxiously high prices then the business will lower them.
But that shows the mentality of people being “I want my high quality gear at any cost!” — kind of like people put up with stressful raid guilds … they are blasted at incessantly for small mistakes, screamed at by raid leaders if they don’t spend more time preparing for the raid etc etc… but they stay because “I want my gear”.
In both cases the player and the seller are in the wrong. Just for different reasons.
However yes I hope this cartel is shutdown and the crafters in it should get account bans.
I just block those people. They are ridiculous with those prices and usually if you wait like 10-15 minutes in trade you’ll find someone who will craft stuff for free so long as you provide the mats.
I like the new crafting system but its also made me have to put hundreds of people on ignore from all the scamming.
No one even advertises on my server anymore - if you put something in as a work order 90% of the time someone who can R5 it will do it anyway at this stage of the expansion.
Yeah it depends, on one server i have put around 300 crafters on badboy ignore and they keep coming back everyday sometimes i wonder if they cycle through their alts to bypass ignores and on other servers i havent put anyone on ignore
I was wondering why I was seeing less crafters, and why somebody tried charging me 26k for a boot craft. I literally loled at him and found somebody else. Thankfully i’m mostly done with crafting before the cartel takes over fully again.
I get the feeling this isnt nearly the problem its being made out to be here. But who knows, i got some crafters who can r5 stuff ill see if i get banished to the shadow realm.
