as tanks, we are the ones who set the pace. finding a sweet spot for the particular group you are in is something you learn over time.
this late in the season, you have DPS and healers who have no idea what they are doing and you also have BIG BOI parses helping out their buddies on alt.
if you are running with noobs, you go at the pace of your CDs and absolutely no faster. if they kick you, they did you a favor.
If you are running with the big boys, then practice making bigger pulls. you still need to pay attention to dangerous mobs and your CDs, of course. but if the mobs are going to melt, it is a good opportunity to learn how to push yourself.
If you are running leveling dungeons, or normal or heroic dungeons, just let it rip. even at siren isles gear (~584) there really isn’t much in that content that is dangerous to you.
if you are still learning your CDs, hit up the tanking dummy in dorn. he’ll give you a run for your money.
Of do follower dungeons and try to pull absolutely as much as you can.
otherwise, just keep plugging. you will get there.
always remember that groups will blame you for pacing and they will blame the healer for dying. just comes with the territory.
Can you understand why this mentality leads to less tanks? An experienced Tank, sure, but in LFG/R? PuG groups of any level? Role does not dictate leadership, especially not in this tier of the game.
Is it frustrating when the Tank needs to be led through the dungeon or the raid? Of course … but we were all Noobs once. We all started humping the walls at one point, and they’re never gonna get the experience and the confidence to be a good tank if we just turn them into pavement grease the moment something goes wrong.
You’re very close here. The VtK feature allows groups to remove the players that don’t mesh well with the groups playstyle.
Ie. If four people in a group are zoomers, and one isn’t, the four people don’t need to make their own group, they’re already in a group that’s mostly aligned. They just need (in some cases), to switch out the fifth, non-zoomer player.
That’s what the kick tool is for. Player agency over who they play with, allowing each group to make the decision for themselves.
And if you’re getting kicked repeatedly from many different groups, it’s time to look within.
“The community disappoints” no truer words have ever been spoken.
Look at the replies to the thread about nobody talking. Many of them are simply saying “I’d vote kick you for being weird and trying to talk to me” and it’s honestly kind of sad. The socially awkward are dictating how we should be social. Inmates running the asylum. Clowns running the circus.
I’ve never used (or voted to use) VtK for someone who just didn’t fit in. Not for trivial content I could easily solo regardless of group. Only time I VtK is when someone is AFK or DC long enough we don’t expect them back.
These are about the only reasons to VtK in queued content. The variation of time spent is going to be within a few minutes even if everyone is just bad lol. This “don’t waste muh time” mentality leaking into actual learning dungeons is cancer.
So you’re using the tool how you see fit, and others are using it how they see fit, and no one is misusing it, and it’s working as intended because the majority decides what happens via vote.
Didn’t say I was trying to get more players to tank.
I take my time seriously.
Tanking before m+ is just dps’ing. Learning to be a good dps will practice many of the same skills needed to be a good tank. There are more skills to learn once damage gets higher in m+ but learning to be a good dps will certainly get you in the door.
I’m not interested in a tank that’s going to blame the community for their bad performance. He didn’t make a post to find out what he did wrong or how he could improve.
I like to think most groups would not kick you for this. I have been in random groups on DPS alt where hesitant tank was supported by group. Most people are nice, in WoW like rest of life, but there are always exceptions. Random is random, even for us tanks. For your mental health, consider this an opportunity to work on one of your important tanking skills: having a thick hide.
Good faith people unfortunately think that they are dealing with folks that can be reasoned with and actually have the best interests of the game and community in mind.
Replies like this make it clear you are not dealing with that. You are dealing with people whose experience is improved, if not entirely made, by ruining it for others. Take note.
I’d argue OP only cares for themselves. Doesn’t understand the role and is unable to meet the exceptions of the role.
When asked to go faster he purposely makes a pull so bad that he lets his healer get aggro and die.
Wastes the time of the group. Doesn’t ask how to improve and just posts about it on the forums to look for a pity party.
I’m not buying OPs story. I bet he didn’t even take the time to read his spells, abilities, and talents.
And for me, feel free to look through my post history. I’ve posted my battle tag on the forums many times to group up with others who were looking for help.
Yes we know you’d argue that you’re just protecting your time that you are wasting in literal queued content. Find better complaints than arguing that your time is being wasted in the most trivial content provided by a time wasting video game.
