The Classic WoW Dilemma: "Dual-Spec" - Because My Wallet Can't Tank AND Heal at the Same Time!

it has already been tested in SoD and it’s been a huge success. The player feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s shown that having dual-spec doesn’t break the game or the Classic experience—if anything, it’s enhanced it by allowing more flexibility in group content without the respec cost and hassle.

They aren’t adding it on FRESH it requires too many game changes and FRESH is era so era would be affected.

It’s not happening.

Your argument doesn’t quite hold up because the Fresh servers are already fundamentally different from the original Era servers. For example, GDKP runs aren’t even allowed on Fresh servers, while they’re still a staple on the Era servers. Blizzard has clearly shown that they’re willing to tweak certain aspects of Fresh realms to create a different experience from the original Era servers.

GDKP bans don’t require dev time and game changes.

Adding dual spec does. You aren’t getting dual spec.

Like I said, I’m in favor of trying the simplest least invasive change of simply lowering the cost first, and the only if we try that and find it’s still an issue, then consider a dual spec option.

But if we try that and find it’s not an issue, then dual spec itself is completely unnecessary.

Or just leave it exactly as it is and change nothing, that’d be fine too.

How does dual spec make that easier if they cant do something that can be done perfectly easy by simply switching to defensive stance?

Frosstfire, with all due respect, adding dual-spec isn’t the monumental development task you’re making it out to be. The functionality already exists in WoW’s codebase, as it was implemented back in WotLK, and was implemented in SoD. It’s more about toggling a feature than developing something from scratch.

This isn’t like redesigning the game engine or overhauling core mechanics. Blizzard has already proven they can port over existing systems to Classic, like spell batching adjustments and tweaks to itemization. Enabling dual-spec on Fresh servers is a relatively straightforward QoL change, not the massive development hurdle you’re suggesting.

It’s not about reinventing the wheel—it’s more like adding an air pump to a tire that’s already built.

But it does change the fundamental game.

With dual spec in the game, I would not be able to make a specialized PVP character with a PVP focus that will have an edge in PvP by sacrificing the ability to get pink parses in raids. People that dedicate more time to raid logging will also now have the ability to quickly switch over to a perfectly made PvP spec. This ruins a very beloved aspect of character identity that vanilla is known for, and moves the game closer to the homogenization that has made modern gaming so drab for many.

So let’s just drop this continued myth that dual spec doesn’t fundamentally change the game.

Not to mention that the idea of dual spec also encourages the parse logging resume mandated toxic pug culture that’s been creeping into the game. It exacerbates the problem making it much easier to fill 40 man groups with SIM specs instead of just looking for your class needs. Which means anybody that isn’t running a cookie cutter sim spec will have an even tougher time finding a pug.

Who the hell is swapping between holy and prot in era?

Let’s break down a few misconceptions here:

First, dual-spec doesn’t fundamentally change the game—it simply makes it more accessible. If someone wants to maintain a specialized PvP spec and sacrifice their raiding performance, they still can. Dual-spec just offers flexibility, but it doesn’t force anyone to change their playstyle or abandon that character identity. The choice is still yours.

Regarding homogenization: Classic WoW already has its share of cookie-cutter specs and min-maxing. Players who want to optimize will always do so, whether dual-spec is available or not. The reality is, dual-spec simply reduces the gold sink and time commitment, allowing players who enjoy both PvE and PvP to participate without being punished for wanting to do both.

As for the concern about pug culture, players who insist on perfect specs for parsing aren’t suddenly going to change their standards because of dual-spec. It’s a player-driven culture, not a system-driven one. Dual-spec would actually ease pug formation by allowing more players to flex into needed roles like tanking or healing, which is often the bottleneck.

In the end, dual-spec provides quality of life improvements without forcing players to sacrifice the aspects of Classic that they love. It’s about enhancing flexibility, not homogenizing gameplay.

Chatgpt isn’t actually refuting any points I made other than just saying “nuh uh” with a word salad
Funny.

I explained the dynamic, it didn’t refute it.

You have been refuted though. You are making unsubstantiated claims while making absurd statements. You think that adding the flexibility of dual-spec is changing the game fundamentally. When it just adds flexibility.

LOL YOUR MAD AF

Really, in the end. These players are just toxic to change. These are the same exact players saying we would never get Classic servers, saying we would never get GDKP banned. They are opposed to any kind of change and will change their tune if Blizzard decides to implement it. /shrug.

wrong :expressionless:
cool essay but you’re not gettin dual spec

I remember the same exact attitude around GDKPs too when we were pushing for that to be banned. Look where we are now :D. It might take some time, but the support is for it, not against it.

cool whataboutism

you’re still not getting dual spec
it ruins the feel of vanilla (and TBC for that matter)
if you don’t get it, it’s because you’re a retail player. :expressionless:

Nah, those are the retail players who want retail changes in classic…

Dual-spec doesn’t change the feel of Vanilla any more than adding things like GDKP restrictions will do on Fresh servers. It simply gives players the freedom to swap roles without being penalized financially or losing precious time redoing talent setups.

It’s not about catering to Retail players; it’s about recognizing that even within Classic, there’s room for improvement that stays true to the spirit of the game. If Blizzard can tweak and refine other aspects of Classic without losing its charm, there’s no reason dual-spec can’t be one of those improvements.
