The Classic WoW Dilemma: "Dual-Spec" - Because My Wallet Can't Tank AND Heal at the Same Time!

Hey Blizzard,

So, I’ve been thinking… (dangerous, I know)… but hear me out. The new Classic WoW servers are upon us, and I have a tiny suggestion that will change everything without actually changing anything: Dual-Spec or Cheaper Respec Costs.

Now, before the purists start warming up their keyboards to unleash a Caps Lock-fueled “NO CHANGES!”—relax. Let’s walk through this together, logically (and maybe with a sprinkle of humor).

1. Gameplay Impact: Zero. Nada. Zilch.

Dual-spec doesn’t actually change the core experience of Classic WoW. You’re still grinding, questing, and getting farmed by rogues who have clearly never read the word “sportsmanship.” But what it does change is the amount of time I have to spend in Ironforge debating whether to respec or buy a decent pair of boots that don’t look like hand-me-downs from Hogger.

Let’s be real: switching from Prot to Fury or Resto to Feral isn’t going to turn you into a one-man raid boss. It just means you’re no longer one respec away from needing to pawn off your hard-earned Fire Resist gear. All this does is let us be more flexible without constantly emptying our pockets—because let’s face it, the real challenge of Classic shouldn’t be deciding between respeccing for your guild or affording your next repair bill.

2. The ONLY Players Hurt by This: Gold Sellers (And Honestly, Who’s Sad About That?)

By reducing the pressure on gold, we effectively reduce the demand for… you guessed it, gold. This only hurts one specific type of player: that level 1 rogue in Trade Chat promising you 1,000 gold for a “special price, just for u <3.” Think of this as a public service announcement: “Save a gold seller, kill demand!”

Seriously, imagine a world where the gold spammers are forced to get real jobs, like… I don’t know, farming Felcloth the old-fashioned way. This change is like casting Banish on those pesky traders, sending them back to the shadow realm of questionable MMO economies.

3. The People Have Spoken (And By People, I Mean a Subreddit Poll, So You KNOW It’s Legit)

Now, I know some of you are worried about the integrity of the Classic WoW experience, but let me ease your mind with some hard data: a subreddit poll. That’s right, a survey on the most reliable corner of the internet revealed 80% of players are in favor of Dual-Spec. Another 10.72% voted for reduced respec costs. And the final 9.12%? Clearly, they’re the type who think spending an hour corpse-running through Stranglethorn Vale is just part of the Classic charm.

If 80% of WoW players agree on something, it’s basically divine intervention. We’re talking about a player base that can’t agree on whether pineapple belongs on pizza, let alone how to down Ragnaros without yelling at each other.

4. Let DPS Mains Explore the True Meaning of Hybrid Tax

Dual-spec isn’t just about saving gold—it’s about expanding horizons! Imagine all the DPS warriors out there who are itching to try something new, like tanking… and by “itching,” I mean they’ll spec Prot, immediately pull 14 mobs, and blame the healer. Or maybe those mages who’ve only ever fireballed things suddenly get the crazy idea to try Frost… only to realize they still can’t win a duel against a Warlock pet.

This is about letting people experiment! Let them discover that, yes, Holy Paladins are more than just Flash of Light spam bots. Maybe they’ll even learn how to cleanse poisons before their raid leader has a meltdown.

5. Tanks and Healers: Less “WTS Services,” More Actual Runs

Let’s address the elephant in the room: the constant “WTS TANK SERVICE, 50G” spam. You know what’s worse than being a DPS waiting 45 minutes for a dungeon group? Realizing that the only tank available is charging you like he’s an Uber driver during peak hours.

If Dual-Spec becomes a thing, suddenly, people will have the freedom to tank or heal without feeling like they’ve signed away their financial future. Less demand on gold = less demand for mercenary tanks and healers. It’s a win-win, unless, of course, your hobby is selling “Tank carries” and funding your Gnome engineering projects.

TL;DR: Please Give Us Dual-Spec or Cheaper Respecs In conclusion, adding Dual-Spec or cheaper respec costs would let me spend less time farming gold like a goblin accountant and more time in dungeons where I belong. It won’t break the game, but it might just save my gold-stretched sanity. Plus, it might even convince some DPS players to actually try healing.

Thanks for reading my manifesto. And hey, if this actually happens, I expect a celebratory batch of conjured strudels in my mailbox.

Yours sincerely,
A Broke DPS Just Trying to Help

Sure dual spec but 24hr cooldown.

I’d be fine with that.

Or even just 1G respec cost.

Honestly, we’ll take it.

At this point, we’d settle for “Dual-Spec, but only on Tuesdays”, or “Dual-Spec, but you have to dance in Stormwind fountain for 30 minutes.” Anything to stop paying 100g to switch from Holy to Prot back and forth.

I would be okay with a dual spec option that can only be toggled by a class trainer, and cost 1g to switch between the two. But have complete respecs stay at 50g cap each.

I still think that this definitely still keeps a high demand on gold; but I would still be SO OKAY with this. Just anything really that lets people play how they want to play without using all of their free time selling tank/heal runs.

i like it. 24hr cd is fair.

The perks of being a tank. I always charge a premium.

Ah yes, the classic tank-for-hire business model. I see you’ve skipped right past farming gold and gone straight to running a dungeon-based extortion racket.

At this rate, I’m surprised you’re not offering a monthly subscription plan: ‘For just 500g a month, you too can have a tank at your beck and call!’

Bump for dual spec

Agreed! Dual-spec would be a game-changer for so many players. It would make grouping up and filling needed roles so much smoother without constantly draining everyone’s gold reserves. Here’s hoping Blizzard sees the demand and considers it—clearly, there’s a lot of support for it.

Thousands of upvotes on reddit too

90% of warriors wouldnt try tanking even if they were given bis tanking gear and free dual spec.
LFG channel is full of fury warriors “lf tank for mara” even though a hunters pet can tank leveling dungeons.

The reality is that dual-spec isn’t necessarily about converting every Fury warrior into a tank overnight. You’re right—there will always be those who simply don’t want to tank, no matter how easy we make it. But dual-spec would definitely lower the barrier for those who are willing but hesitant due to the constant respec costs and hassle.

The LFG channel might be full of DPS warriors refusing to tank now, but that’s partly because they don’t want to commit to being a full-time tank or pay to respec back and forth constantly. If they had dual-spec, they’d be more likely to help out in dungeons or guild runs without feeling like they’ve permanently sacrificed their DPS playstyle. It’s not a magic bullet, but it could definitely help close the gap a bit for those who are on the fence.

We’re not aiming for a world where everyone suddenly loves tanking; we just want to make it easier for those who are open to it to step in when needed.

You dont understand what im saying.
There is no commitment needed to tank a leveling dungeon. Its more than viable enough in fury/arms with dps gear.
Yet they still dont want to tank.

Dual spec will not change that.

Dual spec just means 2 DPS specs because the sweaty nerds will force you to have 2 DPS specs to min/max DPS in a casual MMO for a higher number on a 3rd party website no one respects or cares about.

Have fun with your dual PVE specs.

The reality is that even if it’s possible to tank with Fury/Arms, many players shy away from it because they don’t want to compromise their performance or deal with the hassle of switching playstyles on the fly. Dual-spec isn’t just about making it possible to tank—it’s about making it appealing to those who are hesitant. It lowers the mental and financial barriers, encouraging more players to step up and fill those roles when needed, without feeling like they’re sacrificing their preferred way to play.

So, while dual-spec may not magically turn every DPS into a dungeon tank, it certainly makes it easier for those who are willing but hesitant to contribute when the group needs them. It’s more about enabling flexibility for those who are already on the fence rather than forcing everyone to embrace tanking.

It’s about giving players options. Not everyone is going to use it to run two DPS specs just to squeeze out an extra 5% on some third-party leaderboard.

For a lot of players, it’s more about having the flexibility to swap between a PvE and PvP spec, or between a DPS and utility/support role. It lets people enjoy different parts of the game without the hassle of constantly throwing gold at respecs. So yeah, some hardcore raiders will use it to optimize, but for the rest of us, it’s just a way to make the game less of a gold sink and more enjoyable overall.

At the end of the day, dual-spec just means more freedom for players to play how they want—whether that’s being a sweaty min-maxer or just having a bit more fun in battlegrounds on the weekend.

Simply lowering the cost and changing nothing else solves this issue in the least invasive way possible, it would make dual spec itself unnecessary, and everybody wins :+1:

Lowering respec costs would help, but it only solves half the problem. An issue with this is the hassle of constantly resetting action bars, keybinds, and talent points every time you switch roles. Dual-spec isn’t just about saving gold; it’s about saving time and avoiding the tedium of redoing your setup over and over. It’s the convenience of swapping between roles instantly, which reduced costs alone just can’t provide. Dual-spec would let players jump into whatever content is needed without the headache of constant reconfiguration.

Sounds like a great thing to test in SOD Fresh to me
