Hey guys, filthy retail player here, but I played a few days of Wrath Classic, so I’ve dabbled enough in it for one post.
I was going to make a thread on this, but I see this is touching on the subject. I started playing in Wrath back in 2009 and remember a few things being different back when Wrath was retail compared to it being Classic now. They’re not all QOL things, they’re actual changes to classes.
I’ve only played a DK so far, (not just for the mount). I actually loved DKs back in Wrath and I wanted to relive that experience. I got the starting area done and went off to Hellfire before the new mount was even out. I was a die-hard Unholy fanboi and I remember a couple of things being different.
I’m vaguely sure that Blood Strike didn’t give death runes. At least not in the beginning. I remember that being a part of my rotation, to get death runes, but like not until ICC was out. I also clearly remember that Unholy Blight was an AoE that followed your character around and currently, on the Classic client, it’s just a debuff that attaches to your Death Coil. There’s also this thing called Ghoul Frenzy I’m not 100% on. I don’t remember using it ever, but I might just not have been talented into it. I think it’s what later became Dark Transformation though.
Flight speed is also different. With flying learned, back in Wrath, a flying mount would go through the air at 60% and 100% on the ground. It wasn’t until roughly halfway through the expansion, when they hotfixed in the 150% speed for the slowest flying. I just (painfully) earned flying on my DK on Classic and he’s going at 150%.
My point is this, if they’re going to change subtle things like that, (and this is where I’m going to lose some of you) why not just change everything? Isn’t the “no changes” crowd all or nothing? They’ve disappointed you, correct? So screw it, give up on it and let them blow the doors off. 15 minute hearthstones, Death Gates that travel forward and back, spells automatically learned, etc.
If they’re not going to honor the “no changes” guys and keep the game as it was, why keep in ANYTHING from the original game? It’s clearly not that anymore, so fine, embrace your decision, stick to your guns and make full QOL improvements.
If you’re mad at me for thinking this way, don’t be. I’m on your side. I wanted to play the game as it was, not as it should be. But if they’re going to make changes here and there, they may as well just blow it all out.
