The Classic purist mindset!

I’m sorry folks, but this idea that Classic must adhere to the 2008 version of the game is just rather silly in 2022. These no changes purists are actively holding WoW Classic from becoming a much better version of what we had in 2008.

I played Wrath when it was current, and it had a lot of issues that people seem to just completely forget about. Thankfully the current Classic team is trying to address those issues by making targeted changes to improve the Wrath experience.

I love some the experimentation that the team has been dabbling with Classic, like the idea of not having the RFD tool and adding Heroic + to the game.

Bottom line is, this isn’t 2008 and some changes to improve the experience are a good thing.

Edit: BTW, the original Wrath developers are working on Wrath Classic. If you listen to the latest Wow head interview, the developer talks about how they are trying to address the issues Wrath had. This idea that some rookie development team is working on Wrath is just wrong.

If you don’t like Heroic+ don’t use it. Nobody is forcing you. :kissing_heart:

Maybe Blizzard should just make a new game that’s close to classic. As it is with releasing their classic game, Blizzard isn’t to be trusted. They had all this planned out some time ago and just now decided to let the players know. Good or bad change is irrelevant - it’s just sneaky BS and it tends to piss people off.

I didn’t play WotLK, but the fact that Blizzard is worried enough about dungeons as the expansion progresses to make these itemization changes makes me think they would’ve either been really boring/tedious or at least less popular/harder to find groups. That’s a shame, because I vastly prefer dungeons over raids as far as PvE endgame content, so I’m glad about these changes.

If they want to make Classic Reforged and market it as such, fine. I might even play it. That isn’t what Classic was sold to us though.

I sometimes think the problem is some people peaked in 2008 and they think keeping things exactly the same will bring them back to the top of their game. It won’t, but… delusion is grand.

Yep, this is probably what is going on.

Blizzard game development peaked in 2008.

That’s a matter of opinion. One you are welcome to have, but one I definitely do not share.

Hey guys, filthy retail player here, but I played a few days of Wrath Classic, so I’ve dabbled enough in it for one post.

I was going to make a thread on this, but I see this is touching on the subject. I started playing in Wrath back in 2009 and remember a few things being different back when Wrath was retail compared to it being Classic now. They’re not all QOL things, they’re actual changes to classes.

I’ve only played a DK so far, (not just for the mount). I actually loved DKs back in Wrath and I wanted to relive that experience. I got the starting area done and went off to Hellfire before the new mount was even out. I was a die-hard Unholy fanboi and I remember a couple of things being different.

I’m vaguely sure that Blood Strike didn’t give death runes. At least not in the beginning. I remember that being a part of my rotation, to get death runes, but like not until ICC was out. I also clearly remember that Unholy Blight was an AoE that followed your character around and currently, on the Classic client, it’s just a debuff that attaches to your Death Coil. There’s also this thing called Ghoul Frenzy I’m not 100% on. I don’t remember using it ever, but I might just not have been talented into it. I think it’s what later became Dark Transformation though.

Flight speed is also different. With flying learned, back in Wrath, a flying mount would go through the air at 60% and 100% on the ground. It wasn’t until roughly halfway through the expansion, when they hotfixed in the 150% speed for the slowest flying. I just (painfully) earned flying on my DK on Classic and he’s going at 150%.

My point is this, if they’re going to change subtle things like that, (and this is where I’m going to lose some of you) why not just change everything? Isn’t the “no changes” crowd all or nothing? They’ve disappointed you, correct? So screw it, give up on it and let them blow the doors off. 15 minute hearthstones, Death Gates that travel forward and back, spells automatically learned, etc.

If they’re not going to honor the “no changes” guys and keep the game as it was, why keep in ANYTHING from the original game? It’s clearly not that anymore, so fine, embrace your decision, stick to your guns and make full QOL improvements.

If you’re mad at me for thinking this way, don’t be. I’m on your side. I wanted to play the game as it was, not as it should be. But if they’re going to make changes here and there, they may as well just blow it all out.

At this point blizzard is falsely advertising a “wrath classic” game but it’s completely different from the original.

Yes, I want a refund, no, I don’t qualify.

Blizzard should be ashamed of themselves for reeling in all the returning people who wanted to play wrath as it was and then giving us this monstrosity.!

if you like no changes you’re in for a bad time, because these devs be swinging. And they be swinging good btw. I’m happy with almost all changes, only wish we had RDF on lower levels so i could level as a healer

what do you mean? The people playing this game are playing exactly like we did back in 2008. No mindset changes at all. 100% same community mentality.

/endsarcasm.

That’s pretty much why I want it as well. I almost exclusively play healers and while it was ok questing as disc (I really do not like shadow and I am terrible at it – always have been), I really don’t want to do it for other classes. I mean the badges and stuff in old LFD were great as well… but more than that I would like to level alts I like in a manner I like.

Got a source for that? Kaplan and Chilton are both gone.

You’re right but… they were very clear that they were starting on the final patch of wrath.
