The cat is officially out of the bag, its time to balance more specs

Blizzard, you did the thing you said you wouldn’t do. You gave the most popular class in the game a 10% damage buff to its DPS spec to bring it in line (and above) many other DPS specs.

There is no going back, now its time to move forward and buff more specs. Its absurd the most popular class in the game by a mile (Paladin) now has 2 S tier game breaking specs, and one B tier spec. Meanwhile other classes (hunter & warrior mainly) are lucky to even get a raid spot.

The cat is out of the bag, its time to fix more specs without a question. Look at any server and Paladins are anywhere from 15-20% of the entire server. By far the most popular class just got a major buff that should bring them now to be 18-22% of all servers. 1/5th of your player base will be playing 1/10th of the available classes. In what universe is that a healthy outlook for the game.

Now, I do not think nerfing classes / specs is a good idea at all. That completely throws out of balance the entire game.

However the following specs should absolutely be brought into line somewhat comparable with balance druids:

Feral druid (Useless tank spec, meh resto spec, C level dps specs)
Marksmanship & BM Hunters
Arms & Fury warrior (Two useless dps specs one meh tank spec)

Those 5 specs should receive about a 10-15% buff that Ret Paladin got to bring them in line with all the other DPS specs in the game. Its only fair before this becomes World of Paladin which this expansion already grossly has become.

Those other classes didn’t get nerfed in 3.3.5. The problem with Ret is they were nerfed in P4 of the original WotLK and that nerf was carried over into Classic in P1. In original WotLK classic ret paladin was a viable class throughout all phases, whereas now they’re essentially garbage until P4 because they’re balanced around T10. They should have just undone the nerf until P4 and given us the original Ret. This fix is a half measure and not what we wanted.

Warriors got the Titans grip nerf in the later patches, and a rage normalisation nerf in 3.3.5.

Ret isn’t the only spec to get nerfed or disadvantaged by 3.3.5. The whole idea of “balance my spec and then stop there” is fundamentally wrong headed.

Feral druid is bonkers in my opinion given that the difficulty of executing the rotation for BAD DPS is extremely high, probably the highest of any wow spec in history.

Try juggling rake, rip, lacerate, savage roar, maul, threat, idol weaving, etc. etc. and doing bad DPS, I dare you.

It’s completely not okay that retribution alone got this buff.

This is not true, retribution was incredibly weak in a raid environment after it’s initial nerfs at the start of the expansion and got changes throughout the expansion, most notably 3.2 to bring their PVE DPS up while nerfing/changing their PVP performance.

It as a spec, didn’t need nerfs at any point for PVE content after the launch nerf because it scaled terribly.

When they lost seal of blood/martyr in 3.2 their damage went up in PVE and burst went down in PvP.

(Fix the https for it to work)

3.2 paladin Q/A where they specifically and directly say that Retribution was too weak in terms of DPS in 3.1 (Ulduar) this spec needed band aid fixes for PVE after it’s launch nerf just to get it to the point it’s at now, they were always a weak spec, the tier bonus was just that, a bonus reward at the end of the expansion where they finally got a little more power, they didn’t need to get nerfed for it, they were already falling behind.

Here’s the quote

"Q. All classes vary in dps from one encounter to another; however, some paladins may feel their dps can be less competitive at times in comparison to other classes, more so in straight stationary single-target dps encounters. How do we feel paladins are doing in terms of dps across the board?

A. Retribution dps is too low in PvE in 3.1. We are buffing it in 3.2 through the new way Seal of Vengeance / Corruption will work. This Seal is designed to really deliver damage once the paladin gets five stacks up, which will make it the Seal of choice for boss fights. Seal of Command will be used in PvP or PvE for short fights. We expect overall for Corruption / Vengeance to be the “go-to” Seal much of the time, perhaps even in PvP, provided you can keep the buff up."

Let this sink in, if we didn’t have the balance patch we were on now, retribution would be even weaker than it is now. 3.3.0 nor any other ICC patch needed to nerf paladins, they were already scaling terribly.

Halve the cd on fire ele pls, or make it reset on wipe / boss kill. Thats the only change id like.

I realize that feral druid isn’t that popular, but it’s pretty clear that if any spec deserved some kind of tuning, it should have been us.

neither did retribution. not in 3.3.0 not in 3.3.2 not in 3.3.3 and most certainly not in 3.3.5. but nice spin. stop spreading lies.

No but Prot and Holy Paladin got game breaking massive buffs in 3.2 and 3.3 so I guess we should nerf them until those patches come around.

Rage generation (for both warriors and bear druids) wasn’t normalized until Cataclysm, according to the Wowpedia article on Rage.

That’s effectively the other side of the argument too. Don’t change anything because I picked a good spec.

Bm got gutted in 3.0 and never recovered, does that count?

They fixed a class that was broken and functioning entirely unlike it’s original version in OG Wrath. There is no need to continue balancing classes beyond fixing things that are broken.

Feral is my favorite spec to play because of its complexity, but I agree… it’s really a bummer to keep a crisp rotation and do all the weird stuff we have to do only to be rewarded with average dps. disheartening.

makes obscene gesture

For Hunters they could literally just let Armor Pen carry to Pet attacks. That would enough to boost them and its just granting a stat to pets they should already have.

I mean you can look at logs since the buff and see that Ret is now performing better than both “viable” warrior dps specs. The whole argument about only having 1 dps spec is pointless when you have a class with 2 in the cellar. There are so many things wrong with how this was handled. Ret did need a boost no doubt about it. But ignoring the others in the cellar because they can play another dps spec that is even worse just blows my mind.

Exactly what I expected from somebody who wants to rewrite history according to their feelings.
