The Brutosaur Chase was Miserable

I’m 150k gold away from getting the Brutosaur, and trying to get it has been the worst stretch of time in game I can remember since I started playing WoW.

The issues are myriad with the mount and have been discussed quite a bit: the unique aspect of the mount (appearance, not just the AH), the way its removal was announced, the fact that it’s being moved to the BMAH, etc. I’m a completionist and I love dabbling in everything WoW has to offer, but I want to add my gripe: trying to obtain the Brutosaur before it is “gone” was way, way too centralizing to my game time.

Yes, I could’ve not tried, not cared, or whatever. The trouble was, I knew I could get it if I tried hard enough, and I wanted to get it while I could. I’ve had other grinds and things in this game for things I’ve wanted, but once I got that achievement, or got that drop, it was exciting and rewarding. This journey has made me play this game with an eye towards making gold at all times virtually to the exclusion of everything else with the time I had available, and no part of that journey was really memorable. I’m not going to look back fondly at the time I spent maximizing gold/hour, or remember the time that one transmog item sold on the AH and got me 1% closer.

Anyway, this was not meant to brag about getting it or anything like that. I just really hope Blizzard doesn’t make such a unique, limited time item like this again where it has a large potential of dominating how the game is played for a long stretch of time if you want to get it. There’s a lot of fun stuff to do in WoW, and I’m glad this slog is over.

It’s a mount that doesn’t fly why would anyone farm for it I don’t understand??

Anyway congrats

This is a mount that I can only see being affordable & most useful by those that live in the AH.

I agree with both of you.

I may use the AH more once I get it, but we’ll see. I also got it without using the AH too much outside of posting transmog drops.

I think there is an overemphasis on that aspect of it though. I wanted it more because of how unique it is. If they just wanted to make an AH that was usable anywhere, they could’ve made a toy or an engineering item, but having it on such a unique mount made it more desirable to other players, too.

I understand. I want the tusks of mannoroth more than anything i the world and I’ve farmed for them so long it made me quit wow for awhile.

Thing is I barely like them and probably would wear them for like two weeks

I wanted it but I saw how hard it was going to be to get it so I decided not to bother. In the words of Bart Simpson: “Work was hard so I quit”.

OP, I know you may need some encouragement right now, so you’ve got this.

I hope they keep making unique items like this

You don’t see the ability to buy stuff without having to go back to the city as a bonus? If you are out questing in the middle of nowhere and you need some food or flasks you just pop the mount and buy some. You just need to be near an Inn or pop your mailbox to collect.

Or, say you show up for raid and realize you forgot to enchant a piece of gear you just got; now you can just buy it and not make everyone wait while you hearth back to get it.

The only true vanity mount I have purchased is the Lightforged Warframe. I had gold to blow, it goes with the Lightforged Draenei better than their elephants too IMO.

I did pay some gold for an AOTC uncorrupted voidwing mount run. It is the first and only time I have paid for such a run, but I also think it is the best looking of these rewards to date. Also, like the warframe, it goes with a few of my toons nicely.

I don’t mind unique items, and I don’t mind grinding them out, either. My issue is more when the grind is so centralizing that it forces you to play a certain way with your available game time for a long, long stretch.

Congratulations on Bruto. I liked how it looked, so I bought the mount. The AH definitely comes in handy when I’m out since I can sell or make purchases without having to make a trip to the AH.

Cool, but it’s optional.

Or those that have some money to burn and she’ll out for wow tokens.

My biggest issue is that there wasn’t a cheaper option without the vendors.

I just want it for the model but I’m not going to grind and then spend that much gold just because I like the model. There should have been a lesser version as well imo

This is why you don’t engage with blizzards anti-wod policies and gold sinks. Several expansions later and they’ve yet to get a handle on people who got into optimal gold generation early

The entirety of WoW is optional.

That aside, sometimes OCD, completionism, FOMO, etc. gets the better of me. I 100% admit that.
