The Blizzard Cycle, why people are still mad

I think the reason people are upset is because prior to Legion they were more willing to listen to beta feedback and change things before they went live.

We have to be careful what we ask for however because a LOT of the gripes of modern WoW were all things players asked for in the past. Blizzard is also aware of this so there is a fine line they have to tread. Personally I think the bigger issue is the options given for end game and how quickly they invalidate older content in the expansion.

Take TBC for example (not talking about classic). We got to 70 and did the following: Normal Dungeons->Heroic Dungeons/Kara->Gruul/Mag->New daily quests/SSC/TK->New daily quests/Hyjal/BT->Zul’Aman->New daily quests/Sunwell. This was true no matter when you made your character. Obviously you could unlock the daily quests earlier if you made it to 70 much later in the expansion but all of that content was still required more or less.

Now you get to 60 and the following: Heroic Dungeons/World Quests->Mythic Dungeons/M+/Current Raid and that’s it. When new content comes out same small path. Rather than a journey where we graduate from content we just keep doing the same dungeons/WQ in different difficulties and then a new raid that people might or might not even do. People need more things to do rather than always being thrust into whatever is the newest content is while invalidating all prior expansion content.

It doesn’t matter. Look, if you point a gun at your toe and ask a sample size of ten people whether you should pull the trigger and nine people give you a detailed response of all the things that will eventually happen when you do it, you do NOT listen to the one guy who says, “Pfft, that’s only nine people and they’re all doctors and gun nuts. They’re all elitists with their knowledge of ballistics and medicine. Me, I’m a regular guy, and I say pull the trigger - what’s the worst that could possibly happen?”

It isn’t entirely like that. Basically Blizzard gets a better sample size of data with a larger portion of the playerbase playing their game in beta. More data means at least some things can be tweaked as needed much better.

And your metaphor is a tad off because I’m pretty sure most of us aren’t game developers or understand what goes into making the content so we aren’t all experts in game dev.

Players won’t be happy because many just want something to be angry about.

Perhaps this Blizzard Cycle needs to become a meme like the infamous Sonic Cycle.

It is exactly like that.

Three times, Blizzard has been told what’s a bad idea and how to fix it. Three times, Blizzard has gone with it anyway and watched player satisfaction hit a low and sub numbers go down. Three times, Blizzard has had to literally patch things up using the same fixes that were suggested back in the beta over a year ago.

We don’t need to be game developers to know what fun is - your appeals to authority washed down with that glass of copium fall short when the proof is staring you in the face. If someone who isn’t a game developer can immediately see the drawbacks of a system and its long-term effects on the expansion, and then those predictions come true, then you don’t need to be in that echo chamber in order to have productive feedback. And if the devs insist they’re right because we don’t “understand what goes into making the content so we aren’t all experts in game dev,” then maybe they’ll understand that sucking sound that’s coming from all those “all experts in game dev” taking their money elsewhere.

Very true and good points.

I remember when some people said Legion was alt friendly, forgetting that the first half of the expac it was incredibly grindy and taxing.

It’s crazy to me that a content creator on youtube will put something out and hours later people will repeat it here as if it’s their own idea.

Is it hard to just not pay for the game if you think it’s bad, and playing it when it’s good?

Yeah I’m not mad it’s just dumb this is the cycle, I knew all these changes were eventually going to come I just don’t know why Blizz acts like they aren’t, it happens every expansion. Why not just make it how it’s going to be at the end of the xpac?

honestly not hard to fix this game.
just hurry up and do it, as they said they will listen?
so
 fix
 the
 game

blizzard are you listening or did you lie?

considering its a company that only

Actualy im happy with anounce improvement for 9.1.5 patch.

then i head bout this Cycle System.
Mmm.
Im play retail since march 2021

Still cant wait what 9.1.5 bring to me. hope pvp gearing system get better not trash like this.

And pvp gearing system still trash i will keep playing to enjoy diferent covenant and other game play.

Basicly this game is very good what makes so bad was the system.
3d artwork class skill desing, raid desing was great doing their job im amaze with such old engine game can bring game like this. would be good if make more inovation at UI make ui more competitive to play.

But the gearing system what make this game so bad.

Hope 9.1.5 make a great change.

They’re mad because that is who they are. What you describe, even if taken as 100% accurate, is something everyone experiences. But everyone isn’t mad. People are different.

Imagine being a super shill. These systems are da bomb
I mean yes pull the rip cord!

People see a cycle of not getting things their way.

No one asked for an explanation though OP.

Yet somehow we are back to some people coming at others for liking the changes and vice versa. Whatta weird player base.

I agree with this. It’s outrageous how many times it’s happened at this point. It’s almost like they do it on purpose.

And the only reason they’re even changing things now instead of 9.2 or later is because they’re hemorrhaging players left and right due to multiple issues. They’re not changing things because they had some kind of epiphany. They’re not doing it for the customers, they’re doing it for themselves and what’s even more sickening is that they’re trying to take credit for the changes.

Better yet, they could stop chasing systems or theme’d abilities and just create class based abilities. No anima grinds, no Azerite or AP
just game play. Think islands with out Azerite(more cosmetics, gear or something fresh), or smarter more challenging warfronts where objectives change and maybe the PC is a little bit more intelligent like island npcs (eventually they became trivial.)

I would also like to see world pvp events similar to wintergrasp during the WOTLK era.

Maybe once a month they run different world wide events, like the Scarlet crusade invasion of hillsbrad/ arathi. Or the silithid invade Un’goro crater, or hyjal comes under attack from remnant legion excursions.
