Yeah see the issue here is: That wouldn’t work. The only way that works is if you make it so players do it entirely solo and without groups or raids. Which is technically fine but kinda antithetical to what an MMORPG is meant to be about.
People will not and have continued to show they won’t play these smaller types of game modes or ‘seasons’ as WoW puts it forever. aRPG’s like Diablo are prime examples: If you let the season go on for too long, no one will be there playing it. It ends up being pretty dead or unplayed - so they have to shut it down and begin anew. Then players come back and do it again, and again, and…
Personally I think if they’re going this route it most likely means it’s repeating year after year in some other kind of expansion or feature that incentivizes players to level up alts or to do old content again if they want the rewards. Could they, in the future, be better about allowing retail only players to gain these cosmetics after the fact? Yeah sure.
They should absolutely add a casual way for retail players to obtain all the exclusive items AFTER the fact. That just means the cosmetics are a few months exclusive, then anyone can go after them. IE: Through some kind of currency I’m sure, like timewarped badges or something of the like.
That isn’t how I play. Is it how you play? Are you one of those players who demands new, unique content, plays it once, and then whines that there’s nothing to do?
Decent chunk of players are like that, WoW is a themepark MMO at heart. Some people just do stuff once or a couple times and then never again or for a VERY long time.
I enjoyed plunderstorm, it was short and simple. The prospect of leveling yet another character is absolutely not appealing to me. I can level a character to 70 in a day in retail. I have multiples of every class at 70. I would far rather play a character I have already invested time into.
I don’t mind reusing a zone. I did not play pandaria, and basically have only been there to farm battle pets.
I don’t feel they need to add more abilities to the game. It’s not appealing.
I would rather have seen new dungeons, a new short raid, and new quests.
How MMO’s keep people playing and paying is by providing repeatable content, because they can’t produce enough new content for players to do once.
I don’t think “themepark” refers to playing content once or a few times and then going away. It refers to providing choices to players with a lot of different interests.
I think the idea that they should only provide content for a certain type of player is a sign of short-sighted management. MMO’s are a small part of the industry, and have a limited pool of players to attract.
People complaining like this is part of a problem with the playerbase. Constantly complaining about lacking of stuff to do, and when content gets released faster or in a different way, they complain about being forced to do it when they aren’t.
This isn’t a replacement for typical content. It’s a consistent way to level up a character by actually playing an expansion to the fullest. Or do people really think doing a handful of quests, jumping to somewhere else, and never finishing the narrative, is somehow good leveling design?
These events will help do justice to old content, giving people the opportunity to play it consistently. And even better, they’ll feel like they’ve actually finished the plot, like any player felt by playing these expansions when it was current content. The difference is that it’ll be superfast.
But it IS a replacement for “typical” content in that it is not in Retail wow. I’m fine with lots of options in terms of gameplay, but they don’t do any of this stuff even adequately well. I have no faith that this squad can do anything but Pandarian Flavoured water.
Blizzard launcher is the gaming equivalent to Old Country Buffet, and there’s no salt in the dishes.
What kind of addition? You mean you want it handled to you without anything to do? And if you have to do content, what’s the problem with doing this bit of content?
Else, it’s just more “Oh no, I have to play X content to get the reward? How can it be?!”
It is not a replacement. Content was released way faster during DF. We’re literally getting more in way less time.
Saying it isn’t done well just sounds judgemental. I don’t see the point. Seems well-done.
It’s more like religious dogma. “If we don’t get this, in this exact way, it’s heresy.” Pandaria is part of WoW content and part of the leveling process. It’s like complaining about readjustments to leveling. And it’s way better than a little tweaking.
You do understand that once you look past the hype, look past the marketing, look past the gimmicks, this bit of content is just leveling up an alt in a old expansion. Having new fancier heirloom gear to do it in doesn’t change that and some of us have all the alts we want already.
If they want me to farm old content for collectibles why not at least scale it for our main characters and keep it in the game proper?
