The problem with Netflix 'Bop was that even if they did that, the script writers were idiots trying to appeal to idiots. Which is a shame, because it is very clear some people involved in the product clearly cared. A lot of the set designs were great, and John Cho cared enough about his role to do some due diligence.
Unfortunately the reasons why Net 'Bop was awful would have absolutely carried over to a spiritual love letter to the show, or a spin off. I don’t think it’s possible the people who thought that having a character respond to accusations of blackmailing them with, “Well you are black and you are male” was a great line and having Faye Valentine stick her hand in…a tree hole would have been able to produce anything of value.
It sometimes seems like the writers that Netflix selects for their shows are rando’s off the street or something. It makes no sense, you’d think they’d figure out that you can’t just hire anybody and expect it to go well.
This has basically been Netflix’s greenlight procedure for a while. Once everyone started making their own streaming services and pulling their content from Netflix, they went so hard on original content that if you pitched them anything you were given funding.
I don’t think I made it more than 2 min into Resident Evil myself. She was still skyping with her husband and I got irritated by a ton of things. Perfect makeup in a gritty setting, the fact that you can Skype in a zombie apocalypse, weird camera angles and really bad green screen effects just for the scenery.
Some shows that got canceled before their time:
- Firefly
- Longmire (picked up by Netflix and finished)
- Luther
- Doc Martian
- Black Books
- The Vicar of Dibley
- Animated Spawn
- Limitless
What I find happens more often is there is a great show but the writers are not sure if it will be canceled so they put everything they have into season 1. When its a success they have nothing left and season 2 is mess. Or there is just a general decline as the show got older until it wasn’t worth watching.
- Altered Carbon
- West World
- Heroes
- Stranger Things (granted I haven’t watched the last season which is supposed to be great.)
- Game of Thrones (although the break point happened later like season 4 or 5 where you could tell they ran out of book material)
- Dr Who (amazing until after Matt Smith where it became unwatchable.)
The O.A. on Netflix.
The Expanse on SciFi, but that was the best thing to happen to it because Prime picked it up and spent the money needed to keep it going.
I’ll never forgive the eejits at Fox for canceling Firefly.

They worked that poor low budget and made a masterpiece.

I hear there is a time skip in the expanse anyway after where the show leaves off. And the creators and the actor who plays Amos has and still do a podcast.

This is exactly what I was thinking would be a great jumping off point. Have it set in the mansion before the out break. The main character could be the author of the diary you discover in the jump scare room. You know what happens to the writer if the journal, but show what lead to his final fate.
It would be like the Fear the Walking Dead show in that it would be a drama that shows how the virus was tested and how the out break occurred.

I’ve been a fan of The Sandman since I discovered the graphic novel collections in the early ‘90s, and have been waiting decades for an adaptation worthy of the source material.
I felt sick when they announce a film with Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing Morpheus. (Everything about that project screamed wrong!)
The Netflix series is perfection in every way.
If anyone has been thinking of giving it a try, please do so ASAP. Their views by hour metrics end on Friday.

Yes, podcast: Ty and That Guy. Highly recommend.
And yes, there’s a 30-year time skip. There’s definitely more coming. The prologues of each episode in S6 are the set up for what happens in books 7, 8, and 9.
Amazon Studios knows exactly how valuable The Expanse property is. But a 30-year time jump means mostly an entire new cast, new locations, and new sets. It’s a huge reset. (But it’s happening. )

I think in the podcast amazon was open to do some different shows in the same universe. Spinoffs. I just havenent read the books and going off slight spoilers I read online. Seeing as how I was intrigued the show doesnt have the same characters.
And how the producers explained how changes needed to be made to make the show good. And it definately is. 6 seasons were pretty good.

DEADWOOD. It was just head and shoulders above everything else. The writing, dialogue and acting were superb. David Milch is a genius. It was nice to get the movie but we shouldn’t have had to wait 12 years for it. The show should have had a full 7 season run.

I’m not gonna lie, as a long time lover of the franchise, I watched it with my woman who knew almost nothing about Resident Evil. She knew zero about it prior to meeting me and then she got interested in the franchise after watching me play.
Most of us watching it together was boiling down to me ranting about how I couldn’t stand a lot of the choices they made because it felt like the whole show was meant to cast a wide net.
“We’ll do things which’ll piss off long term lovers of the series, but make it bad enough so they feel like they have to watch just how bad the train wreck gets. And then we’ll also rope in new people who have no idea what’s going on by making the characters so unlikeable that they basically hope they die in the end.”
The only actor in that whole thing who I felt like not only got good direction but also took his role seriously was Lance Reddick. The rest of the people in that were completely unlikeable but I think that’s because of bad direction, and not so much them just being bad actors. Hilariously, the fat guy chasing Jade turned into one of my favorite characters because Jade was that terrible of a person.
The best scenes were the scenes where the series actually took itself seriously, and Eveline Marcus stole the whole show for me at the end. I won’t spoil it, but yeah. She won it for me at the end. Which I was not expecting.

The Dark Crystal. Season 1 was amazing and even won award in something but Netflix canceled it anyways.
Counterpoint: I think Firefly being 3 seasons and a movie could have been a good thing. Sometimes the longer a show is on, the worse it gets (example: Lost, X-Files and GoT.) At least the movie wrapped things up.
However, they could have done one more season to tie up the loose ends better. I like the movie but it should have been season 4.

Oh no OP. That netflix resident evil was a disaster. I say this as a long time fan. They didn’t do it decent at all.
Forever Knight was great. I remember watching it growing up. Was one of my favourite shows.
Yeh, still sad about that one.
