I’d like to see Bard become a profession. Perhaps they have to craft their own instruments (various models for each race) and maybe they craft magic infused music sheets that are consumed on use for whatever they’d be barding.
Pretty much anything is “X themed Y class” but tinker at least fits a lot better within Warcraft lore as a theme than bard does.
Especially if you aren’t actually going to make a traditional bard and just take the name and do something random with it.
There are other things you could do other than tinker, but at this point just about any idea will probably overlap with something already in the game at least a little bit. Even Demon Hunter took meta away from Warlocks.
Real Talk - Lecrae. I’m betting they don’t do it due to the file management, size, and musical design implications.
Making a bard class sound good in the game would be somebody’s Magnum Opus, and I would not envy those engineers nor composers…
Music isn’t a weapon in WoW’s universe…no.
I miss my old Warlock skills.
Ever see kung-fu hustle?
The assassins hired by the axe gang that use their music to launch deadly attacks. Ya, that’s my kind of bard.
Only if it plays this music when you kill one in pvp or they die
Bards would be dumb.
Nobody wants to listen to that.
Engineer would be better
Speaking of Bard! Ever see that Bard in Pandaria?

Self promotion, even if the mog rating is over nine thousand, should be prohibited!

Bards have traditionally served as a support role in other games, a role which does not exist in wow
-
They would be near impossible to balance. They would have to be worse than a healer or dps (because why bring a healer or dps if you could jsut bring a bard) in which case you’d probably jsut be ebtter of bringing a healer or a dps instead of a bard
-
The playstyle of ~constantly tossing out buffs to the party would be hard to measure from a numbers standpoint, and even more difficult to ascertain if said player was actually doing their job and doing it well
Additionally, I am betting the vast majority of the player base would get bored real quick with it
- Blizzard already does a poor job with class balance as is, as there are many specs that are in dire need of help (either buffs or reworks) so why would we want another added to the mix?
- Bard Hip Hop beat hit for 3,500.
- Bard Dubstep drop crit for over 15,000
- Bard Air Guitar solo crit for 20,000, 3,000 overkill
…
A third option is possible: it proves to be more fun than expected, and dungeon runs go back to being fun runs, rather than the voiceless business transactions they are now.
25 cent arcade games were better random interactions than what passes for a supposedly ‘heroic’ feat with people in a decade’s old game. Some fun, damn near chaotic, and downright formula breaking party interaction is needed in WoW right now. Something needs to dislodge the stick that has been jammed firmly up backsides.
If they go with Bards as a class, my ardent hope is that Blizzard does only ONE stereotypical Bard path (i.e., instrument player), and the others are pulled from RPGs. Tons of options from established RPGs that will shake up WoW in a good way.
Heck, the Lorekeepers temple in MoP could be the primary Bard school.
As long as they have no Melee spec and wear mail I don’t care what they add at this point. I’m just sick of Melee DPS being oversaturated.
Sigh. Spoony bards
Make the bard a “life” class and let them give you some buffs. The people who want certain buffs can pay the bard and there ya go. Could go the XIV road and make them an Archer with a bit of musical buffs such as a song that ups healing potency for healers or healing received for tank or everyone else. Tbh, this probably would be broken and makes more sense in Classic or something.
If they added a bard I don’t think it would be a support class. I don’t see room for a pure support class in retail without it becoming either a “We need a bard in every group.” Or “Bard isn’t of any value.”
The game doesn’t have any pure support classes in it nor is it built around bringing classes for unique buffs anymore. So brining in a pure support class would be a bit hectic.
