FFXIV does a decent job of bard. They are a ranged bow class and toss out short party buffs as part of their dps rotation.
They can also use various musical instruments to preform songs while out of combat. I doubt WoW would allow for this though. One, it would take way more effort than the devs care to put forth these days to code all the instruments to allow for real time performances like FF. And two the general toxicity of the community would lead to many a troll using Bards to be disruptive. So I don’t see that happening.

People gonna hate you for thinking this, and will try to convince you they dont fit with wow. those people are wrong, Bard is the only real choice to advance too now, we need a new class, it needs to be a healer with an emphasis on temporary buffs its the biggest role wow is missing right now.
Who even wants bards aside from people who bring guitars to parties or music students

There’s more. I’ve noticed an uptick on musical focused items.
Bards were an early class idea LONG before WoW was even a thing:
Done correctly, Bards could be a POWERFUL new class.
But are they playing music that isn’t already in the game somewhere?
I ask cause I don’t know. I was answer just off being in game and what I remember of the soundtracks at the time. I was at work when

That’s not how Bards work in Bard’s Tale.
They aren’t sitting there playing an instrument or singing the whole time. In that game, they were light fighters, somewhere between a Warrior and a Rogue, and they had music as their “magic”.
Not entirely sure, but there are items all over SL that are musical instruments or items. They’ve been popping up a lot more in this expansion than I recall seeing.

Yeah, drums, bells, things of that nature. It’s almost like they are hinting towards something.
It’s not necessarily “We are planning a Bard Class”, but it’s interesting that they are more prevalent than before.

bard is the most stupid idea for a class. it should be a side perfession if anything.
That’s a big meh from me, thematically I don’t feel like it would bring a whole lot to the table.

music has never once been impactful in this game, or weaponized. i don’t even listen to in game music 90% of the time so not sure how this would work lol

Bards are a staple to fantasy gaming, I’m not going to argue there, but do you actually think its going to bring in mass players excited to play a bard? Not one bit. I’m not saying they’re bad but as far as something that’s considered new - if I hear “bard” - I think boring.
i think it could easily be healer and dps 2 spec like DHs 1 for soothing melodies aka healer and one for loud abnoxious sounds? instead.of the dps spec being so focused on support… just let them burst some eardrums metalheads everywhere!

There is an active thread on this forum, right now, asking why LoTR is so popular in comparison to WoW.
My trust in 85% of Blizzard’s forum dwellers knowing that Bards do more than buff and use musical instruments, has dropped exponentially in the past while.
It’s figuratively disheartening to see so many non-RP savvy players in a game heavily based in fantasy and RP. There is more to online gaming than the Trinity; the Trinity is what you cut your teeth on.
