no what makes the scarlets interesting is there religious persecution, if they aren’t light users then they lose that
They are tainted Light users. The point is to watch them lose the Light. They serve as a reminder of the dangers of misusing the Light. They have to be Light users for the story to make sense.
they serve as villains for the forsaken, to hold up their narrative of being rejected things, they don’t exist for you
How is that mutually exclusive? There can be more than one reason for their placement in the story.
And honestly, that narrative ties well with what I was saying.
Why do they reject the outsiders like the Forsaken? Because they lack compassion.
Because the whole thing doesn’t work if they are just guys, no different then any other group
The Scarlets are different from the other Light orders if that is what you mean. The distinction of good versus evil helps make the Scarlets stand out.
But if they can’t be evil light users, then they are not an light order
One can use the Light for evil, it doesnt end well for them though.
It is like Garrrosh and the Horde. Garrosh’s “True Horde” did not reflect the actual qualities of the Horde. The Scarlets do not reflect the actual tenets of the Light.
Yup, to use the light you need the will to use it. You can base it on faith, knowledge or confidence but you still need a strong will. Any faltering will make you lose the ability to use it like Arthas and Anduin, but Anduin’s will came back and now he can use the light.
That would be skirting a legal minefield.
descartes turning in his possibly existent grave out here
Also bored of said religion being a Christian expy. There are more religions out there to copy from.
I think its mainly Christian in forward presentation with human church structure, architecture, practices, and sayings. Of course, you cannot forget Paladins.
I would say the Light and its actual tenets are more amorphous and incorporate elements of Abrahamic faiths, Zoroastrianism, and Buddhism. That is also not counting belief systems like the Sunwalkers.
It has 5 tenets, not really amorphous
I mean amorphous in the sense that it isn’t exclusive to any religion.
Fun fact: The Knights that inspired the term included two women. Waiting for someone to accuse Charlemagne of DEI hires.
Unless, you know the empire got humbled itself by any number of disasters(ahem Catacylsm) it isnt exactly unhead of for Blizzard to suddenly change the nature of a civilization to make them a more paletable playable race points at the Zandalari
First Ones created the universe with balance until the forces except Death tried to conquer and control the rest. The Chronicles Books are basically Propaganda.
True, but I think it could be VERY interesting to have the Arathi be a proud stuck up group because they’ve been alone for so long and self sufficient for so long. Especially because all the Arathi we’ve met here are more open minded. Could be a setup for a raid, or a long quest to win them over, etc.
Well that would fit their part elven nature.
