We just got the perfect mount for them.
Yet still cannot play as them.
We just got the perfect mount for them.

This is a brilliant idea!
I didn’t find a banner here for the Jinyu so I will suggest this one:
It’s a Jinyu banner, perfect for Jinyu as playable race
Honestly the more I think on it the Jinyu (and Ankoan) would fit really well with the Alliance.
Just imagining them in Stormwind selling their wares down by the docks alone is a tantalizing concept.
But their understanding of water and their prophetic powers would have made for interesting stories. Plus they’d have been an easy in for another Alliance Shaman race back then.
Now of course all races will have all classes.
I just… I really want to see the Jinyu one day on the player screen almost as much as I want to see Furbolg for the Alliance.
They’d fit so very well.
Bump! Wee want fish-people blizzard! I’d main a frost mage jinyu in a heartbeat. Or maybe a shaman.
I’ve wanted Jinyu since they joined the alliance in MoP. Pls blizz pls
Races like the Jinyu, taunka, hozen, frostborn dwarves should have been the first Allied Races.
Jinyu would fit so amazingly in the Alliance.
Jinyu Druid imagine it, he turns into a flying fish soars up then transforms into a great white shark landing in the target then flopping around and biting at everything. That or turns into a wereshark.
Jinyu Druid/Shaman vibes make so much sense. A Jinyu frost mage would be cool too.
It’s about time they get a race which isn’t a human.
I’m leaning towards shaman myself. Though I’d love to do something unexpected like warlock, rogue or paladin too…
At present, I have interest in having a Jinyu or Ankoan Frost Mage, granted the removal of the permanent Water Elemental pet has really soured me. Not sure if I would go Jinyu or Ankoan for that. Guess it depends on which is available and looks for both if both are options. Also could use more character slots so I could have a Jinyu and Ankoan character.
On another note, I have my copy of Exploring Azeroth: Pandaria preordered, which is tentatively scheduled to come out Oct. 19th. Whenever my copy arrives, I’ll be sure to report what all is said about the Jinyu in here.
The more I think about it, having a Jinyu Druid really would be great and have aquatic based forms would be fun. But there would most likely have to invent new forms of aquatic to turn into for the land and flying forms. What would the horde get?
Horde could get Gilgobins with the Unshackled. The are a part of the Horde from a certain point of view.
I agree with Mianyaue, the Kelfin would be the best to pair with the Ankoan or Jinyu, though the Hozen are a close second.
I do think Kelfin would be the best Horde counterpart to Ankoan/Jinyu in my opinion, though it would depend on whether Ankoan or Jinyu would be the parent race and which would be the customization race.
Kelfin seem to have a lot going for them. They and Ankoan can be tied into any storylines involving Azshara, who I am sure will become a thorn in our side again in the near future. They also would have great recruitment storylines into the Horde while also bringing all the members of the Unshackled into their ranks. Seeing what the Unshackled went through and then coming into the Horde just feels incredibly fitting to me.
Not to mention that I would feel much better with Kelfin as their own race as opposed to being slapped onto Goblins and being able to drown in puddles of water despite being a race with gills that lives in the deep sea. I really don’t want them to fall into the purgatory of Customization Race, where Goblins just cosplay as them and they don’t have a presence or a seat on the Horde Council, among several other problems I have with Customization Race treatment in general.
Hozen would be fine to see playable and I’m not against them being playable at all. They and Jinyu were one of the first allied races technically and have a history together. I just see more potential with Kelfin being the Horde counterpart and them bringing a lot more to the game. That said, I’d be perfectly fine with playable Horde Hozen.
As I said, a lot depends on what would be the parent race. Unless maybe they bring Jinyu and Ankoan together and call the race in general a new term that describes fish men in general. Regardless, I lean more towards Kelfin as the Horde counterpart.
All in my own personal opinion, of course.

I might be wrong here, but from what I understand, the ankoan are from salt water (sea), as they look like abyssal fish, while the Jinyu are from sweet water (lakes/ponds), looking like koi.
SO for that reason, I’m inclined to think if next expansion is sea focused, we would then get the ankoan, wich is sad cause I prefer jinyu.
BUT I don’t know if that salt/sweet water logic applies here. I just hope we get both. As Bagzak said, they could be on the same race.
I don’t think thats a thing that Blizzard worries about. Jinyu are also found along lakes, rivers and the coast just fine. It seems unlikely that they have a requirement.
I’ve seen recent rumors, talked about by the big named content creators, and “leaks” of the next expansion possibly involving pirates and the seas, which would be interesting timing given FFXIV’s recently announced new expansion kinda goes with that theme as well. Then again, I’ve heard of Light vs Void and the usual old world (of Warcraft!) revamp as rumors as well, but if the high seas is part of the next expansion, then seeing Jinyu/Ankoan and Kelfin would make a lot of sense.
Honestly, thinking about what I typed just now, I feel like it would work the best if Ankoan and Jinyu were combined into one race slot at the beginning with a term for whatever the overall fish men race would be. The problem here is that with one being a parent race, the customization race would get the short end of the stick, likely being referred to as the parent race and not having much of an identity. Among SEVERAL other problems I’ve grumbled about with Customization Races and their treatment in general.
Ankoan are suppose to be few in numbers, so I could see them reaching out and meeting with Jinyu in order to possibly help repopulate, which would make for a great introductory questline. Then you could have Jinyu and Ankoan at the beginning, as long as there are things like transmogs and such so that their cultures remain intact in the playable race process. Then you wouldn’t have Ankoan being called Jinyu and vice versa, and the name for fish men in general or even a joint partnership name for them would work fine for the playable race.
The last thing I’d want is for Ankoan or Jinyu fans to be left out and feel like they got the short end of the stick with how Customization Races have been treated, so it seems like the best thing Blizzard could do when making both playable.
Kelfin can be a great counterpoint by fitting in the storyline, especially with Azshara involved who would affect both Ankoan and Jinyu, by bringing in the Unshackled (Sea Giants, Makrura, etc) into the Horde and having some pretty neat customization potential to make them unique compared to Goblins.
Ankoan/Jinyu as a joint Alliance race with Kelfin as a Horde race and having to deal with Azshara just sounds like it would make for a really cool expansion to me.
