The Alliance were nothing more than a plot device this expansion

Dranosh’s death; and subsequent raising by the Lich King.
Literally Arthas WAA an established Alliance character UNTIL he became the LK.
After that, is was anybody’s war.

Ok, so much for TEN YEARS AGO.
Every expac since has been Horde and /or Orc centric.
To quote the late High Overlord of the Horde

And no you weren’t a secondary in WLK

Yes. I am aware the Horde have had strong plot points in Wrath of the Lich King.

My point being, is that there was a point where the Alliance actually mattered. Wrath of the Lich King is not exempt just because the Horde also mattered. The Horde having strong storytelling doesn’t cancel that out. That’s how it should be, anyways.

You lost Varian in an epic fight and cutscene, we lost our warchief to a trash mob in an incidental fight while retreating, in an exapnsion almost ENTIRELY devoted to the Alliance, including alliance-only content.

Certainly the Alliance haven’t lost any of their main characters or leaders, or their cities, to players in endgame raids. Even in BFD we clearly beat Jaina, but she got to teleport away because plot armour.

As I said, typical Alliance one-sided whinging ignoring the facts trying to play the hard done by card.

I wouldn’t give a daaaamn if Anduin died. He’s like Varian but worse in every way, probably the most one dimensional leader in the entire game. The only reason Varian had to die, is because otherwise it looks like Blizzard is killing off all the Horde leaders. And keeping all Alliance leaders alive.

But they kill them off, because having perfect leaders like Thrall means theres no conflict, and if theres no conflict, they can’t have a story. So they made Thrall leave and appoint someone to cause conflict and a storyline began.

Then when Vol’jin took over, things settled down because the big bad was needing to be taken care of. When that was over, they killed him off to start off another Horde conflict.

Look, I’m not in favor of taking turns, I didn’t like not seeing them in Argus.

Blizzard should leave us both in the same row.

writers need to make a little effort and have them share the role.

Except for the fact that Voljin was killed as a plot device and is still part of the story. Varian on the other hand is just straight dead lol.

Ner’zhul, who was the lead shaman of the Horde on Draenor, who’s spirit becomes the literal Lich King and inhabited same said Helm.

Or Gul’dan who served the Legion, and whose skull gets absorbed by Ilidain for its demonic power. Or the Nightborne who originally served Azshara when the Sundering took place.

The whole point of the “cycle must be broken” is that this dance has been going on for a LONG time.

It meant that Orgrimmar got a total makeover in preparation for said raid, so yeah I’d say we would gladly take an endgame raid based on one of our cities. Bring it on. Why didn’t we get a Teldrassil raid before it burned down? Hell I would have killed to see Darnassus made into a raid, that would be sick. You know what we got instead? A shot of our city and zone burning that lasted a few seconds and it didn’t even have any night elves in it.

You know what’s funny, though?

Anduin could be incredible, and he definitely had great moments in Legion.

The idea that Anduin is King to a throne that he isn’t particularly ready for, and immediately gets thrown into the heat of a war once he becomes King, is grounds for incredible storytelling.

There are so many possibilities that could come from that, like Anduin making mistakes because he’s inexperienced, or maybe he overcompensates and causes things that end up in more lives being taken.

But no. Blizzard thinks Alliance is boring.

Give me a break.

Well what do we already have, the Council of Three Hammers, the Night Elves being Genocided, the Lightforged joining, the Void Elves joining after that.

Shouldn’t the Alliance be in the midst of a civil war and people trying to oust him from the position of High King for his incompetence in Undercity?

No, the Alliance just shows up when the Horde needs a baddie.

I wouldn’t say I’m whining. If Blizz were to kill off Anduin or Jaina we simply wouldn’t have any decent characters left to represent the Alliance. All of our characters are either non-existent or are peace makers. In an expansion that’s themed around “us vs them” it’s kind of hard to feel Alliance pride when that’s what we’re working with

Horde characters are simply better. I loved Varian, he went out like a true champ and I couldn’t be happier with how Blizz handled him. All I’m saying is that if any other Alliance leader were killed it wouldn’t have nearly as big of an impact at the moment

It doesn’t need to be a 1 for 1 when it comes to how many cities and faction leaders we’ve lost if the Horde is still more interesting

Wanna kill off Genn, Malfurion or Tyrande? Go right ahead, no skin off my back. Killing Nat Pagle would be a bigger blow to me personally than any of those guys

Blizzard’s ‘writing’ has made it clear that the Alliance exists only to give the Horde something to fight.
The Alliance is simply there to REACT, and be a peacemaker.
Oh, I almost forgot: Alliance is also the perpetual victim, and is supposed to be all forgiving and other nonsense.
Example: the scene where, after the victory over the Zandalari, Anuin and Jaina are MOURNING the horde dead? And refusing to press our hard-won advantage?
This kind of writing STINKS.
I play this game now for reasons that no longer are concerned with Blizzard’s notion of ‘content’.

If the Alliance started to fall apart due to Anduin’s inexperience and lack of leadership skills that’d be… Actually pretty interesting. Not sure why the Night Elves would want to be in the Alliance anymore anyways, or why the Void Elves are welcomed without issue despite the Alliance being so clingy with the light

There’s an interesting story to tell there if Blizz wanted to put in the effort

The writers have said, the think of the Alliance as boring, they think of them as Superman. But the way they write them, they are so incredibly weak they can’t even defend their own lands.

How can the Horde feel like the rebel outcasts, when the Alliance are the ones that consistently lose all their lands and cities? And then turn up to help the Horde with their interfactional conflict?

The Alliance are written as a living doormat for the Horde, while the Horde is told they are the tragic figures with a terrible backstory. So they are free to do what they like.

It’s like writing Superman to just stand there and take bullets to the face while the robbers take everything and he tells them “okay but don’t do it again”

Technically they probably do. They’ll mock alliance players a few more times at Blizzcon this year. Those are big plans, right?

THE ALLIANCE WERE NOTHING MORE THAN A PLOT DEVICE THIS EXPANSION

Hence “You all are nothing!” - Sylvanas

Firstly, the expansion is only half over, so any commentary on the entire expansion is a bit – premature to say the very least.

Secondly, the Alliance has been splintering since Tyrande and now Genn. If you actually ask Anduin, she won’t respond to his missives now. Genn was furious that there was no battle and that Sylvanas escaped and is probably the second splinter.

I don’t fully agree. I would say that Night Elves were largely used as a Plot Device for BFA.
