Let’s talk about the actual issues of the stream and ignore the crybabies that are mad Ion supported a just cause they see real world as “PoLitIcS”. (Dont bother replying to their screeching, they are irrelevant)
The issue was pretty clear, they failed miserably to live up to expectations!
Blizzard made an announcement for a big stream 2 weeks early, which inevitable builds hype and expectations since we had no major announcements for a while.
Not only that, they had clearly contacted multiple content creators which were also on Ndas which implied that again, something big was coming up as well as said content creators also hyping the stream with guesses like cinematic, release date, system talk.
Thirdly, do they realize the audience that is left playing during a drought before a new expac? Because I highly doubt mr ultra casual who plays casually every now and then even bothers with following WoWhead and stream updates and instead plans on coming when shadowlands launches. Not saying there’s no casuals but I feel the number of actual players who bother following news like that arent the ultra casual kind.
This means a more hardcore base is waiting for streams and updates, the said fanbase cares a lot about gameplay and class design and the new covenant system, instead the majority of the stream was spend talking about extra mini games that might be fun, but it wont be as relevant as we play the game for the moment to moment gameplay aka combat and class design and covenant.
The only interesting bits I got
Beta next week
Soulbinds arent fully unlocked, you unlock a single path(Possibly the 3x dps conduit one)
A clear goal to keep covenants hard to change back and forth since they are serious rpg elements which is great : D
All that could have been avoided if they merely made the announcement 3-4 days early, and said it would be a minor dev update about shadowlands instead of letting hype build.
People built themselves up for a big update. The wording blizz did didnt indicate it was a huge reveal or anything. Dont blame them for your own mistakes
You arent wrong, but at the same time Blizzard should know the result of having an early announcement, they should have tried to at least lessen the hype to avoid the huge backfire that it caused.
Given the additional disclosure around the soulbinds for each Covenant, there will be more levers for developers to tweak things in the name of balance. This gives me more comfort about my choice of Covenants not handicapping my gameplay further down the road.
Half the systems they announced are mini games that wont be relevant to our progression though
I mean, we had templates in legion, instead of making changes every week, they made every few months letting broken things stay broken for months.
But yeah, both conduits and soulbinds are a thing they can easily play and adjust to balance OVERALL performance which they will be seeing once raids/m+ is up
