Still not in the 48-60 home stretch, but on Fairbanks, a supposedly roughly 35:65 Horde favoring server, so far I have gone to Menethil Harbor, taken a boat over to Theramore, quested in the marshes for a while (got 4 or 5 HKs - died once to a mage), walked down through The Barrens, 1000 Needles (a couple more HKs), into the Shimmering Flats.
A Shaman, a few levels lower than me, attacked me! I chuckled a little, but took it seriously, and engaged (not like I had a choice)… then a lock (also a couple levels lower than me joined in - here I thought to myself, "Wow, it’s so nice to see these members of the same faction actually helping each other out, instead of just sitting on the sidelines, doing nothing… and smiled a little). I swapped to the lock, but guess what? Yep! A warrior charged me… so nice to see these 3 engaging in some good 'ol PVP on a PVP server.
Yes, I died. Yes, I was outnumbered… but guess what? I am alone, walking around doing some quests, by my self, and this is the first time in a couple hours that I have been outnumbered…
I’m not trying to say, “Look how great I am,” I’m trying to say, “The problem isn’t obvious to everyone at every level.” The hyperbole is real.
Also, not everyone cares or minds having faction imbalance. I’d assume vastly most people don’t.
pvp servers don’t even exist in retail anymore because there was no way for them to fix it. WM will not come to classic. the only option you have is to keep going as you are, reroll on a pve server, or unsub.
The thing is, just about everything they could try will lead to some serious problems.
What if they closed off one faction on a severely imbalanced server? People will know it’s imbalanced and in fact if the UI shows that a particular faction cannot be created on a server, it will alert people to this and make them avoid it like the plague. It will never become balanced.
What if they introduced queues for the dominant faction? People will stick it out. We’ve already figured out having a queue is not a detriment at all. You’ve seen Faerlina, you’ve seen Illidan back in the day (I will assume you were around to be polite.) And if the imbalance is particularly egregious, people will just find another imbalanced server to play on.
What if they offer faction specific transfers for the dominant faction? Far fewer people than you might think will leave a good situation behind. The WPvP meta is quite literally “outnumber the opponent”.
What if they offered incentives to the non-dominant faction? Again, it’ll be an immediate tell to the players “hey, you’re vastly outnumbered”. And it’ll be deemed crazy unfair if the reward is significant. You’d have to balance the reward and the situation, and I don’t think there’s a happy medium people would be happy about.
It’s a bad situation all around. I’m not saying that “do absolutely nothing and let the players hash it out” is what alternative servers did, but when you only have a couple realms…
IM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE DISPARITY AFTER I GET IN THE SERVER IM TALKING ABOUT THE QUEUE THAT STOPS ME FROM GETTING INTO THE SERVER BECAUSE THE QUEUE STOPS ME FROM LOGGING IN.
…because 75% of the spots on the server are consumed by Horde and we can’t even make it 60/40 because the queue keeps it 75/25.
this is a reroll to a lower population server issue if there ever was one. there are plenty of servers without queues. you do not deserve to get in faster than horde when you both chose to roll there and both will wait in queue until you get in.
So your solution is to cancel the game. Seems logical.
If your solution is for the minority faction to reroll to a lower pop server, then you essentially don’t want servers to be playable. If you don’t want servers to be playable, you simply don’t want the game to be around.
uh if you’re on a full server there’s gonna be a wait to play. this is not unusual on a full server. you should not get special treatment because you are outnumbered. it sounds like you guys don’t actually want balance. you want favoritism for you guys.
They can’t force people to transfer.
What they could do, is put a one-sided queue on all imbalanced servers to kinda nudge people towards transferring.
Changing a server to be 40/60 instead of 25/75 is not asking for favoritism, its asking for a little bit of balance. It will still be imbalanced in favor of horde, ITLL BE OK YOULL STILL HAVE MORE NUMBERS.
I DON’T ROLL ON PVP SERVERS ON CLASSIC. my main i just rerolled is alliance actually. and on BB. so i’m even more gross according to the anti-normal server people.
this is my highest toon in classic. but i rerolled ret pally today but i’ve not been able to play much and he isn’t high enough to post. but i have a retail version of him i’ll show you. which is better geared than dekkar.
