On behalf of everyone here on the World of Warcraft team, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
2019 started with the unprecedented Battle of Dazar’alor, which led to the Alliance and Horde and bringing the Kul Tiran Humans and the Zandalari Trolls into our ranks. The Crucible of Storms challenged our most-experienced raiders, while the war over Azeroth inspired us to seek out and discover new places, peoples, and stories. The legend of Queen Azshara was renewed, as her great upheaval revealed Nazjatar and The Eternal Palace, even as we made first contact with the denizens of Mechagon and plundered a giant new dungeon. Players took to the skies above all of this, and joined with us in celebrating a remarkable milestone: 15 years of World of Warcraft!
Along the way, we got to see millions of players around the world come together to experience World of Warcraft as it once was with the release of WoW Classic.
We decided to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of WoW with a host of in-game activities, such as Korrak’s Revenge, an old school, anniversary-only edition of Alterac Valley. Another is a series of raid encounters called “Chromie’s Memories”, which you can still experience through January 7, 2020. The memories of fel, frost, and fire give you a chance to revisit nine of the most memorable raid encounters from the Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm expansions. Now that players have had a few weeks to complete all nine and earn their Obsidian Worldbreaker mounts, we thought it would be fun to pull some statistics and share them with you.
- The deadliest anniversary boss was: Ragnaros
- The least-deadly anniversary boss was: Nefarian
- 26 players died to Heigan the Unclean for every one player who was killed by Kael’thas Sunstrider.
- In the first six weeks of the event, players amassed 46 Million honorable kills in Korrak’s Revenge.
We’re so very glad that you joined us on many epic adventures this year, and we’re thrilled to look forward to many more that we’ll share in the new year!
