Hello everyone!
I haven’t played a hunter since Wrath and I see that many things have changed since then. Primarily the pets. I had tamed a cat early on for dungeons mainly, and had a bear for leveling content. When I went to read up on the changes, tenacity gets 5% increased health and ferocity gets 10% leech.
I played around around with both pets in leveling content to test out the passives. It seems to me that the ferocity pets only have a little less health then tenacity, but they heal over time. My cat seems to do better staying alive in leveling than my tank pet. Is this intended to work in this fashion? I had a bear back in the day that was almost unkillable.
They ruined pets. When you are able to, tame a clefthoof and you can kill anything.
I rarely have to use mend pet on him, I just misdirect and barrage an entire camp onto him and he heals up just from leech aoe.

Scalehides work fine until you can get a Clefthoof.

Any chance of Blizz reworking the tenacity buff % to a higher number?
The general rule to follow while solo for hunter is.
Clefthooves for BM
Scalehides for MM
But
Sporebats is the G.O.A.T. of them all

I always see “clefthoof for BM” yet when I’m in game all I ever see people running around with is Hati. lol.

Well you have to realize by now that most BM hunter like to play dress up when it come to their pet choice.
I would run around with my spirit bird when I switch to BM just on the fact that I like it flapping wings animation.
BM hunter the “Barbie Spec” second to none.

tank pets for solo and ferocity pets for lust and mortal wounds for pvp.
Except that Ferocity pets are the “tank pet” for BfA. Tenacity pets with a soothe (Spirit Beast for BM or a Stag/Crane for non-BM) are the go-to pets for dungeons and raids if Bloodlust is covered. Otherwise you use a Bat or Nether Ray as they are Ferocity (for Bloodlust) and have a soothe.

You all wrong. Since a DK I will have to tell you that the best pet a hunter can have is a Sporebat.

Please stop spreading misinformation from a meme video. Sporebat is no good right now.
I’d switch to my hunter but either due to the maintenance or some other reason I can’t switch characters right now. I will tell you that I have been a hunter since Wrath and that my hunter is my most used character besides this DK and not just a 120 and done.
My bear tends to get shredded during fights and barely comes out with 10% of hus health after each one. Mend pet is continually on CD with him.
My wolf fares much better.
Right now the only benefit I see to taking tenacity anywhere is if the pet family has a great utility skill, or you need an extra hp boost for some piece ok content.
But for solo questing, meh.

Thank you all for the advice! I will go out and tame a few of the mentioned pets and see how they do.
Don’t be dissuaded though. If you find a tenacity pet, or any pet, that you like the look of or jives with the theme of your hunter, by all means tame it and use it.

Spirit Beast is the only Tenacity pet that compares with Clefthoof, because of Spirit Mend and Spirit Shock (dispel).
I keep both with me, because certain fights are better with one or the other. Other than that I keep a Feathermane or Pterrordax for the Updraft and a Water Strider for Surface Trot. Maybe also Silithid if you want a Cunning Pet for the 7% movement boost, a 30% pet speed boost and the Slow. Situationally, you could swap out one for a Mortal Wounds pet for PvP.
I like using my corehound to solo.
Nah. I almost always use my Spirit Beast for the HoT and the debuff, plus them being Tenacity.
I’ve had a really good time so far with a corehound. Great survivability. Obviously, I’m not max level but I’ve been taking down the MoP rares very easily.
The hidden ones or just in general?
Lol this ^ I hate to admit it, but it’s absolutely true. When leveling in new content I coordinate my pet, my transmog, my mount, and my companion to the theme of the zone I’m in.
