Okay, I’m leveling a new DK - never played the class before - managed to get to 50 and got a quest into Plague Fall (specifically Plague Fall: Knee Deep In It).
So I did the LFG thing and got into a speed run (for normal?) and couldn’t keep up if I looted the stuff I need for that quest - no problem - that’s supposed to show up in the mail, right?
Nope.
So I got to the final boss and was kicked because I wasn’t doing enough DPS (I’m still in BFA gear FFS except for couple of pieces).
Fine.
I requeued and tried again, telling them I needed to loot some of the stuff for the Maldraxxus quest. No one objected.
Got to the guy on the little islands and while I was looting one of the bodies the boss jumped next to me and I aggro’d him (I didn’t go after him - he jumped almost literally on top of me).
Got kicked for “pulling the boss” - it’s a normal guys, this is where you learn.
I’ve been in there twice more and because I’m not accustomed to speed running normals I haven’t made it out yet.
Utterly ridiculous.
The mindset of “go go go go f-ing go” at the ONLY playable style is utterly toxic and utterly ridiculous, especially in normal instances.
Is it any wonder I do as little PVE as I can get away with.
This is why I queue with friends and guildies. While I can keep up with the “go go go,” I choose not to. I’d rather chill with friends. I’m not in a big damn hurry.
M+, in my opinion, is like the red headed stepchild of this game. It’s in an awkward position, threw off the gearing ladder and exacerbated some of the issues people have with elitism.
But… with all of that being said… the “go go go” mentality isn’t really the fault of M+. That existed prior to M+. And in high keys, while there is a timer, people aren’t just mindlessly chain pulling M+. There is strategy involved.
The “go go go” mentality started back when CC stopped being necessary in Normal dungeons, bosses stopped being so intricate and people could chain pull to AoE everything down.
I’ve been alt levelling for the last couple weeks while I’ve been out of work sick and I gotta say, after hundreds of runs, the only times I see people getting yeeted for being slow is when they’re so far behind they appear AFK, I’ve done that exact quest you’re talking about a half dozen times recently and not once have I ever been more than a few seconds late to the next pull, sounds like you need to turn auto-loot on and use your sprint mechanics and mount more.
Also, Ickus bounces between the islands, there’s a good few seconds of warning before he lands, if you aren’t the tank, stay away and be aware of your surroundings.
Plaguefall specifically is the issue. Can skip the first 2 bosses, straight kill the last 2 bosses & you get around 50k xp for completing the dungeon. So every time this dungeon pops up it is just assumed you’ll be skipping the first 2 bosses. If the quest isn’t part of your covenant campaign, just pay attention and learn the route. It’ll really help you as you level as it’s just free xp. If you need the quest, just list it.
M+ has nothing to do with it.
Also, the quest you mentioned only gives 18k xp. So it’s just more efficient to do the skip.
I once got kicked from a grp for dpsing as a healer in levewling dungeon… no one had died and I also had the most amount of kicks i was healing on my r shaman.
ppl are stupid I wouldnt think much of it and just go next.
That’s just a terrible group of self-centered jerks. It has little to do with M+ and more to do with you will get immature narcists on occasion, if you queue with enough random people.
This is less a result of “M+ is just wrecking this game” and more a problem that daily callings offering 1,500 gold and 35-50 valor for an easy-peasy normal run will attract incredibly over-geared players that just want to smash it for the covenant calling quest and have little interest in what a normal dungeon otherwise offers.
The devs likely should make the daily calling reward “level-appropriate” if a dungeon can fulfill the quest: <200 ilvl can get credit for Normal or higher; 200-213 ilvl need Heroic or higher; >213 ilvl need a Mythic or M+. That is, if the devs agree this is disruptive to a majority of low-levels trying to do leveling quests like you. Your experience might be a minority among leveling players.
People in random LGF groups have been speedrunning dungeons since Wrath.
They briefly tried to make dungeons more difficult and require coordination in Cataclysm. It didn’t last because no one liked it. None of this has anything to do with M+. Deal with it.
The moment I figured out I could solo dungeons, I went back and did them at my own pace, immersing myself in the atmosphere, exploring the environment, reading the quests, savouring the lore/story and, instead of it being an anxious, stressful, negative experience, it was an amazing one full of marvel.
That’s just how the WoW playerbase is unfortunately OP.
I’d suggest FFXIV, much better experience in dungeons and instanced content.
The playerbase doesn’t really take kindly to the “GO GO GO OR GET LEFT BEHIND” mindset over there.
