TBC Unpopular Take

I don’t get the hype around TBC or re-releasing the game in slow increments. SL has been devoid of content for months. It’s becoming more difficult to get quality groups together. I know a lot of people are super stoked about Classic and I’m not discounting that. I’m happy for you guys that found joy in a game, but for me I’m just not into it. I like to push new fresh content.

When I struggle to find a group in retail or doing the same dungeons for 7 months, I can’t help but think - what if all of those resources were pumped into making the current game better? I just don’t agree with this decision and I think it has hurt WoW in the long run. How many expansions will they do? This may be an unpopular opinion, but does anyone else feel this way?

Classic isn’t responsible for the absolute incompetence displayed by the retail team with SL.

We like real mmorpg not the lobby / flying simulator game this is retail

All the QoL changes has ruined retail

You think you want all that convenience but you don’t

What if, now this is crazy, but there was only one team - retail? SO twice this size?

If you ran a business and half your customer base would willingly except treadmill grinds layered onto treadmill grinds, tedious WQ’s with stopped traffic mechanisms, limited rewards for high end content, cumbersome travel, and a toxic social atmosphere and the other half was perfectly happy with a rehashed game built on simpler mechanics and nostalgia for a better gaming era, would you divert funds?

You get to fly in tbc at 60

Good point, but in a perfect world, there’s only one version of the game they continue to work on at full capacity and listen to all the feedback to make the best experience for the majority of the players.

Ya you like leveling in a world you can’t die in

You like never having to speak to anyone because everything is so ez no communication is required

You like flying everywhere at 5000% speed

All those things make retail bad and that’s why no one plays it

Right like flying is the biggest complaint with retail.

And guess what bud it was the single most controversial aspect of tbc

People said it ruined tbc back then and I agree

Of course it’s not to the small number of people who still play retail

Everyone else who thinks it ruins wow have left

That’s why SL is empty al the normal players left and it’s just the aderal zoomers left

More resources into raids (that would be good) uhh I don’t own SL but they didn’t add any new races or classes so they’re missing that initial draw for new players imho.

I’d rather wallow in my nostalgia with tbc.

We’re getting off topic. This isn’t going to be a which is better why. It is meant to discuss the decision to re-release old content that may or may not take resources (players and dev time) away from Retail.

It won’t matter if they increase retail’s development team. The players playing classic won’t play retail.

Simply throwing more people at something won’t necessarily make it go faster. Ultimately we don’t know Blizz’s inner workings. But they’re a really big company. They can spare people for a Classic team and there’s no sign retail’s has gotten any smaller. As far as we know it’s the same size it’s ever been. The struggle for the slow down is their work from home situation.

But I think Classic overall is a good idea. Before this players just used private vanilla servers and ranted on for years about why Blizz should bring back the old days. So it’s not surprising they finally cracked and did it. They said they’ll continue to other expansions only if there’s significant feedback asking for it. It’s not the main plan to redo every expansion, but they’re open to ideas and playing it carefully.

Retail and Classic are going to attract very different playerbases, so I don’t see them harming each other.

You don’t own SL?! That is hilarious that you can even comment on this post then. TBC caters to exactly your demo. Players that are content to do old content.

The question to ask: If classic didn’t exist would that mean those devs go to the retail game OR would they go to another project because the retail team has what it feels is a big enough team

As someone who plays classic I’m quite sure I do
