TBC - Seal of Vengeance needs a buff

SoV (Seal of Vengeance) was a little threat boost in original TBC for paladin tanks, with low SP (spell power) and defensive gear because we didn’t know any better back then. In today’s threat based TBC (where many of us are using SP Rings, Trinkets, ETC), SoV is already loosing it’s value due to how poorly it scales with SP, even with the 2.2 changes.

Simulated threat numbers with Misery on the target, Judgement of the Crusader on the target, and Wrath of Air, 400 SP is all you need for SoR (Seal of Righteousness) to catch up to SoV in threat (which is easily obtained in phase 1). If you throw on a SP flask, oil, food, etc, SoR is already overtaking SoV threat.

In an attempt for #somechanges to keep with the original feel of the game, SoV needs a massive spell power scaling buff, even if it means dropping the base damage as to not be abused by Ret/Holy. I recommend doubling the scaling of the DoT and Seal damage (the damage that’s applied when already at 5 stacks), as well as a 10% scaling buff to the judgement damage. This will keep SoV threat over time above SoR threat, and maintain the original TBC experience of lower threat generation while applying stacks, Rewarded with higher threat while at 5 stacks.

To be fair I don’t know if the threat on SoV or JoV are lower than they should be. But what I know, is that paladins are currently not having any threat issues, at least not any of the paladins I’ve seen. Doubling damage or threat from SoV/JoV would make prot paladins broken.

To keep with the true feel of TBC I’d call for a nerf to SoR before I’d call for a buff to SoV.

I’ve got warlocks up my you know what on almost every fight. Prot paladins currently do the lowest single target threat of the 3 tanks. to nerf SoR would make it so DPS have to hold back more than they already are.

Get those warlocks a shaman for -20% threat totems. I run with prot pallies every day and I have very few threat issues.

Here’s my logshttps://classic.warcraftlogs.com/character/id/51704454

And to be fair my comment about nerfing SoR was a joke. I don’t think SoR needs a nerf, but I also don’t think Sov needs buffed.

Low single target tps with VERY high aoe tanking.

Working as intended.

To be fair, I’m not asking to be single target threat gods, I’m asking that an ability still be relevant for more than 15% of an expansion

No, stop crying for changes. We did this content in a harder environment in the original release, you can deal with it now with all the hand-holding.

This has never been the goal and never should be. Half the fun of having classic servers is to see what we can do with the old game mechanics after a decade and a half of experience.

It is what it is. That’s the point. Make of it what you will.

I don’t really understand why people are expecting coefficients and damage changes to spells in TBC classic? Isn’t this version supposed to stay true for this stuff to the original game?

They need to boost perception. Its not good enough.

I have to hold back no matter what class it tanking.

Threat is an actual mechanic in TBC. Sometimes as a dps you have to hold back, that’s just the way it is. Nothing needs to be done about it.

I think you’re confused. We don’t buff or nerf skills here. This is classic. You probably got lost on your way to retail.

Can you share some numbers?

I don’t see why anything needs to be changed.

At low spellpower, use SoV. At higher spellpower, use SoR. Nothing is broken.

Why do bears get to break that rule?
