I don’t think it’s good idea from business point. That could just start of open a can of worms. Then what? Separate server for Wotlk? separate server for Cata/MoP? It will be disaster to maintain.
Honestly I’m sorta torn between the two. I know everyone would love to see Hyjal completed, the top of Eastern Kingdoms completed, etc.
But TBC brought so much QOL stuff to classes especially the hybrid ones (which are arguably getting shafted in classic, sorry to all who are playing one).
If I had to guess, this is gonna be a full out war if they announce anything close to a phase 7/TBC
Classic wasn’t a good idea from a business standpoint either. It competes with their own game, and can’t be monetized as heavily. There are many people like me who waited 10 years + to re-experience BC and WotLK, not Vanilla… though Vanilla is a whole lot closer to what I want than BFA. In the end, these are people that wouldn’t be playing Blizzard games otherwise, so having those people back under their wraps is a good thing for them, even if they aren’t able to substantially monetize them.
Create a new line of expansions that stay with the original spirit of WoW. Alternatively, grow Classic WoW with no expansions per se but just an ever evolving game world that doesn’t take the route of retail WoW.
