Hey guys! So I never got to play TBC and don’t know many mages or people that did.
What I was wondering is how good are the individual mage specs throughout the expansion?
I’m about to level tailoring and am trying to decide whether to get the frost set or fire set as, from what I can tell, they’re BIS going into phase 2. Any help and suggestions or ideas about mages throughout the expansion would be amazing!
Def get the fire set, not frost. You won’t need the frost anymore. After phase 1 the only viable specs are fire/arcane for raiding. Frost is still good for heroics though.
Frost actually gets really good in the prepatch for Wrath, but other than that it’s a little gimp. You really could raid with it still though. The damage isn’t that much worse. It’s just the perception that would be hard to overcome. Nobody wants to invite a frost mage for PvE.
Technically Arcane isn’t supposed to be great until 2pc T5, but I’m Arcane/Frost (40/0/21) and I put out plenty of DPS. You can still have some points in Imp Blizzard/Permafrost for helping newer tanks kite in Heroics, use Frostbolt for “conserve” phases (typically only needed in raids), and Arcane Blast / Arcane Explosion for insane burst windows.
I can’t speak for Fire (I never loved it), but Arcane and Fire share a set, so I agree with everyone else to lean Spellfire.
I’d go for spellfire imo it’s BiS for a long time if you’re planning on being a fire/arcane mage and with how serpent-coil braid is in SSC for arcane next phase all the more reason to go spellfire.
Right but to be prepared for phase 2 the sets are BIS for phase 1.
But you are correct it’s late in the game to gather all the ridiculous mats for it though so unless you got a lot of gold to burn probably not worth it.
