If you think this is the LAST time layering will be implemented, do I have something to sell you…
Layering will become the new norm for when servers have queues with major releases, such as the AQ war effort and BC release. It was not only accepted but welcomed and will forever taint the experience.
That sounds terrible. I don’t want to relevel characters just to play them on a new server because for some reason you have tons of time to level characters all day but can not farm now.
How is transitioning classic servers to BC servers, like they did in 2007, not the closest recreation of the original game? You are wanting to make something new that caters to you.
I think its a way to keep the new content servers completely fresh and untainted with the economy of the previous while offering a continuation of poeple who desire to continue their characters while also keeping a level playing field for new subscribers.
Nah. Offer one-way transfers to a smaller number of ‘stasis’ realms for the people who just can’t bear to move forward. That way, they get to be with like-minded individuals, and the majority get to move on to the expansions we are actually wanting, TBC and Wrath.
I think most poeple want TBC… but they want their classic server to stay classic. Poeple wanted classic as a stand alone game (stasis) game. I respect that. And if you want to go to TBC fresh you can… or if you want to go to TBC with your toon… you can too. just copy it over when the option opens. easy peasy lemon squeezy. lol… just dont bring your classic gold to TBC! ha!
I’m not convinced that most people wanted Classic as ‘vanilla only’, but as ‘pre-Cata’. TBC and WotLK were the most popular times in the game’s history, after all.
What is tainted about classic’s economy that will not be recreated in BC? Do you think layering is over now that is the standard for crowded servers? What about servers that have not had layering reimplemented?
Prices are high and people are storing tons of gold, but that will continue to happen. When BC was released originally players carried over thousands of gold, why is it a problem now?
But it wasn’t welcomed, most people actually did want launch classic server population caps.
I don’t play on the spurg server for Asmond and his twitch streaming chronies so I couldn’t give a toss about queue times. In fact, I love them. I hope Faerlina gets higher and higher queue times, serves you guys right.
If we didn’t start fresh and basically allowed all Classic toons to migrate right away, I worry about the damage to the economy. People know how to make gold in TBC and are probably setting up alts right now to take advantage of it. I’d rather just have a clean launch, and your idea of a phased approach of when Classic toons can migrate over is a good compromise.
Do you think Faerlina is the only server with queue times? I’m not on that server.
How was it not welcomed? They had an entire blizzard post asking for feedback and people came in DROVES in support. There was resistance, but it is now standard. It will return later on in classic and on new servers. Do you really trust Blizzard if they were to say layers will never return or be implemented?
Also, if you’re not on a layered server, why does it matter to you about the economy since it is not tarnished to the extent of others?
The only people who ever had to start at level 1 were either new players or players that wanted to re-roll. Why penalize those who want to just play their existing toons?
Not saying that they 100% wouldn’t let accounts go to TBC (obviously b/c the survery), just that they have stated things like this before so don’t be too surprised by not having that transfer/copy available.
I think that if they allow anything, it will be a single character copy with restrictions on gold and potentially items, although many Classic items don’t have nearly the value in TBC.
Here is the problem with transferring characters over to TBC realms. Everyone would be maxed out in gold. Transfer one toon. All the gold on that character is still in classic. Give another toon all that gold. Transfer to where your TBC main is. Bam double gold. Rinse and repeat as needed. Or have your guild max you out for gold. Everyone would do this.
I am not sure how they will combat this, but starting with zero gold will be a burden. There is a reason flying mounts cost so much. People already had a bunch of gold when TBC started. They were meant to be a gold sink.
