Firstly talk a little about myself as a player. I started World of Warcraft back in February 2005 and played till the end of wrath and i briefly played some Mop. short and sweet so lets continue…
I will not go into details of the current different ideas and variations there are for how we can have Classic TBC be implemented so i will only give you my idea of the solution that i feel will be best overall across the board of the major concerns which is economy and character progression.
I Love Classic Wow and happy at its success but i am sure with the desires of the first 2 expansions we are at a crossroads… how to proceed yet be fair to those whom will be coming back. Can we find a way to treat classic wow, classic TBC or even classic wrath separately yet keep a semblance of continuity? Lets explore my idea.
Here is the meat of the matter…
+Keep Classic servers Classic. its a completed gameGG
+Open Fresh TBC servers Dark Portal Closed
-If you want to play at server launch you need to start from lvl 1 along with all the Blood elf paladins and Draenei shamans.
-Blizzard Give a Publicly ANNOUNCED X Date for dark portal to open
( Insert internet hype to garner more new subcriptions)
-One week prior to Dark portal opening give classic players options to 1 Free “Character copy” Character gear onlyNo bag items , No gold
-After X DATE option for more character copies No bag items , No gold
Summary Notes
This method of release can be replicated to future expansions. It Ensures a fresh and fair launch for new subscribers and current subscribers alike while offering continuity options for current subscribers should they desire to continue the journey with characters they have made bonds with while keeping each game separate and true to their own identity.
No idea is perfect but this is my humble attempt to reconcile the looming crossroads to come while being fair across the board to new and current subscribers.
I have 4 level 60’s that I would like to continue playing into Burning Crusade. 13 years ago I didn’t have to pick only one of them to move one with. I shouldn’t have to make that choice now.
Also, people who have been careful with their gold and played the AH shouldn’t be punished going into Burning Crusade. Why would I want to go into new expac with no gold? I didn’t have to do that last time. All this does is give a huge boost to the classes that can solo farm quickly. Mages will make that gold back fast. As a warrior I will not be able to.
Just let me play all my characters, with all my collected items going forward, just like I did back then.
Just let me keep my mount and maybe 100g, that’s all thats required.
I like the idea of F R E S H realms. Some people can be very sweaty and have hundreds of days /played on a game thats been out for about the same time.
Classic was a museum piece. If you expect to take your character from it you shouldn’t be too upset when you can’t. It was made with all intentions of not changing or affecting the other games.
There are too many restrictions and issues to this launch already. How much in advance are we allowing people to get to max level? If it was the case why dont we just open that server NOW and let people progress though content on TBC setup? You could form the community around the idea that your servers is going to progress instead of just wondering what system Blizzard is going to use to get to TBC. Which in the long run would have been better anyway.
Why does everyone want fresh servers for expansion releases? That is not how they were launched initially. Is it because you’re struggling to make gold now and somehow think we should level the playing field to cater to you? If you are having gold issues now, you will not magically figure it out later. Sorry for the harsh realization.
I understand if it were for the feel of a fresh server, but we already had it. I had a great time the first month when everyone was fresh and gearing up. For that to happen every expansion is annoying. I don’t want to be forced to re-level a character(s) to play an expansion when we have already hashed out all of the details 13? years ago when expansions were released.
Just transition the servers to the next expansion with an opt in classic forever transfer if desired (or just straight TBC servers is fine). We don’t need to make up new ways for an expansion to be released when every, single, time it has just been a gun-shot start.
No. It’s not my problem that I decided to play an Alliance pally from the start and somebody on horde side wants to start one. They want to start one, THEY start from level 1.
This “if everybody can’t do it, nobody can do it” mentality is just terrible.
Yeah this. You should be able to keep your Classic toons @60 on classic servers whilst being able to play cloned toons to level 70 on TBC server carbon copy.
Classic was made with all intentions of not being transferable.
If they need to make two types of realms sure. The survey had both options on there in various terms. It would just create a subset for the already existing types.
That’s alot of work, so it will be interesting to see what they do.
Classic was made with all intentions of not being transferable.
Blockquote
Do you have a source for that? I checked the classic page and it just says it’s “Azeroth As It Was” and “World of Warcraft Classic is a faithful recreation of the original World of Warcraft.”
I would argue that a straight continuation of the game through BC is a “faithful recreation” to the truest form.
No transfers, at all. No thanks. Classic realms have the worlds worst economies. Because newsflash: Everyone saying layering would cause massive economic issues on the realms were 100% correct. It cause massive damage to economy.
Because of the failure of Classic Launch I do not want any shape or form for those characters to be allowed to migrate to TBC to futher the issues.
Quite frankly I foresee Blizzard screwing up TBC Classic as well. I mean Blizzard has basically screwed up every single launch of everything for the past 12 years.
Everyone starts at lvl 1… but you dont have to do that… all you need to do is wait for the last week when dark portal will open to copy your lvl 60 paladin to the already existing TBC server… you will be ready to go on Dark portal open.
Better idea. Copy paste all realms into a BC version and still have the classic version.
Start 2 pvp and pve fresh realms (4 total) with no transfers aloud for the first 3 months. (Only TBC realms can transfer to TBC realms)
After 3 months look at classic realm population and merge where needed.
Keep in mind TBC should not happen for about a year after naxx launches from classic. But with character copy’s you can chose to fully transition into TBC as it was when the expansion came out, ignore it and stay with classic, or go to a fresh TBC realm.
Many people will chose to continue with their forged characters from classic copy to TBC realm, many will start on the fresh server, many will stay in classic, but this gives everyone the option of how they want to experience TBC. As a continuation, a fresh start, or not at all.
There will be a massive new wave of subscribers. This will not be a fresh Start for what will be a stand alone game. Classic is stand alone just as TBC will be stand alone.
