so i just started my first ever healer ( disc priest). i want to primarily be an arena healer but also be able to easily heal rbgs and bgs etc.
i am using mouse over macros to heal the bgs and doing fine that way but i’m wondering how i can easily heal bgs if i get rid of mouse over macros and start targeting with arena 123 and self/party targeting.
i hope what im trying to ask makes sense
There is a keybind for target nearest friendly player, i bound that to shift tab. Hope that helps.
I have p1 p2 and self bound to mouse wheel. Then my macros are mouse over if it exists or target player if not. So it is slightly slower but it works for me
I’m not sure it’s still possible (probably not for classic), but it might prove useful to set a focus on someone you want to heal. If you had a macro that would set focus on a mouseover, perhaps your healing macros could be written a bit more generically.
I just started healing this season. for disc i recommend following Gekz on stream. as for binding. I still have arena 123 and focus arena 123 bound but i also bound target p1/p2/self
i put the party targeting macros on mouse wheel up/down/middle mouse respectively. and then i have p1/2 dispel and leap. but you do need to bind your targeting for party members.
all of my spells except dedicated p1/2 are mouseovers too but prioritize my mouse over target then selected target and if no target myself. IE:

/cast [target=mouseover, exists][help] Power Word: Shield
/cast [target=Player] Power Word: Shield
also this is a good macro i use alot against BM hunters and DKs (you can use it when they pop lichborne)
/cast [target=mouseover,exists,nodead] Shackle Undead; Shackle Undead
I click frames and use focus macros/clicking plates for enemies and it works just fine if you’re fast with the mouse
Just comes down to finding what is most comfortable for you personally, that’s what you’ll play best with
It’s the same in my experience. I tried my hardest to adjust to using arena 123 and party 123 macros for everything but I just couldn’t get it down despite weeks and weeks of trying.
Ended up having the best luck with clicking frames for a majority of stuff and just using a mixture of @focus and arena 123/party 123.
I used to do the same as chastitycage, though I just had the second line as
/cast Power Word: Shield
and had auto cast on self if no target turned on.
If you have space for the binds then top players typically bind dispel party12/self macros as well for speedy dispels.
In my experience if you rely on mouseover alone you’re going to run into situations where you simultaneously want to adjust your camera or turn while changing healing targets, and it’s going to get sloppy
yea that’s my caps lock key and closest enemy is tab but i wasn’t sure how efficient that is
