Tanks that get lost in dungeons

My first classic toon was a Druid which I leveled by mostly tanking dungeons, and I didn’t remember my way around any of them.

Most are pretty easily navigated, but those that weren’t, I just asked and people were more than willing to help. I had never run lots of the higher end dungeons as well and I made sure to ask before any bosses about mechanics I should know. It’s not that serious, go for it and it will be fun.

Most people that I’ve encountered are very understanding, everybody was a new player at some point and from what i find, so long as you say before hand that you don’t know you’re way around. People will understand and guide you to where your group needs to go.

If someone makes a fuss over you not knowing then they’re immature people that can’t be bothered helping others out.

As a long time tank the fact is you will be looked at to lead - which is why no one wants to Tank. Its a huge responsibility - which some people thrive at and excel at being superstars, and some people are not comfortable with and shrink away from. (This would be most people - hence why so few Tanks).

Having said that I would consider it to be a marker of mastery of this game - if you can successfully tank, keep people alive, lead them well and provide timely advice that helps them succeed at content - you will experience a great deal of personal fulfillment and will always be needed.

But to get there you have to learn by doing. You have to make mistakes. And there is a hell of a lot you need to know.

I can provide some pointers though.

  1. Never tank an instance where the end boss is more than 3 levels above you.
  2. Use SixtyUpgrades to find the best gear as a tank for your level
  3. Research instances a bit - know the bosses and quests
  4. Engineering. use bombs to pull large groups - its great fun! (if war)
  5. get a good fast gun and always have ammo (if war) - practice pulling mobs back.
  6. Don’t get discouraged if you make mistakes.
  7. Know your threat rotation. For war 15-40 Heroic Strike, Sunder Revenge, 40-60 Heroic Strike, Bloodrage, Revenge. Druids - Maul, Maul , Maul
  8. Bring health pots, get healthstones whenever you can.
  9. Learn when you need a shield and when you don’t.

Good Luck.

In most groups there’s usually at least one person willing to provide directions as long as you’re willing to pay attention to chat to see when someone is saying you’re going the wrong way.

Best practice is just let everyone know that you’re not familiar with the path at the start so folks know you’re going to need some direction.
