No, you aren’t expected to know everything. So long as you know how to tank, just mention to the group when you join that you’re unfamiliar with the dungeon, and ask someone else to lead the group and mark targets. Tank doesn’t have to be the leader.
Posting in a wholesome thread.
Even if someone guides you through the dungeon, the tank starts each of the 150 individual fights the group does.
I play every class and like to group, but I usually avoid tanking. In Classic I have led 3 or 4 groups around Gnomeregan, using a map on my other screen. But I still let the tank start each fight.
The tank runs the group, including waiting for Mages and Priests to get mana back. The tank decides how to fight each group, if LOS should be used, if one of them should be sheeped, etc.
If you don’t mind doing all that, usually someone else can guide you through the dungeon. Just be sure to say something while the group is forming, so people don’t expect you to “know this dungeon cold”.
I tanked that mansion in BFA Drustvar. I had no clue where to go, but I knew how to tank, and everything was fine.
I love tanking but wouldn’t do it. I get lost and people complain and don’t want to wait for you to learn.
Would it be possible to run through on a higher level character or even in retail to get the lay of the dungeon.
Not always. Some of the dungeons were changed over time in retail, including changing the maps.
This guy gets it…and if they are douches, leave group and find another…you’re a tank; getting another group will not be hard. Meanwhile, the douches in the last dungeon are all asking each other “does anyone know a tank?”
As long as you can actually tank I don’t think anyone will care to point the way. Classic really does have some labyrinthine dungeons.
Sometimes I get lost looking at my muscles.
Not even really in dungeons, it just happens.
My muscles are awesome.
Yeah! You can’t just, like, play the game. No - you need to do all of your research first so that the “first time” you experience the content you have it all memorized.
You CAN for most of them to just know the way around the map, but where’s the fun in that? Just go in, say you haven’t been there for years and have fun. It’ll make you a WAY better player than the ones who have to know the best route through every dungeon, what mobs they can skip, and the strat for every boss, before ever stepping foot in the place.
Players have to make their own decisions about what makes for fun gameplay. If someone has poor innate navigational skills they might find tanking too stressful given the other additional responsibilities and may just opt out. The player has to choose how much outside knowledge to access to keep the game exciting. Not for you or me to say.
A map will not help you navigate Sunken Temple. Nothing will. Only with a lifetime devoted to memorizing staircases and winding corridors can one hope to achieve a rudimentary knowledge of the layout.
Still a great dungeon tho
Most people are just happy they have found a meat shield for a run so wont care if you don’t know the way in the more confusing dungeons. If a group is full of douche bags, leave and find another within minutes, tanks have zero trouble finding groups.
I’d have to disagree on the ‘great’ part. Sunken Temple is on the list of dungeons I have done once, just to say I have, and refuse to do again, along with Wailing Caverns, Razorfen Kraul, Razorfen Downs, and Uldaman. Those places can all be purged in cleansing fire from the face of Azeroth.
Undead - Check.
Rogue - Check.
Zug Zug Guild Name - Check.
EDIT: Oh he’s typing! Can’t wait!
Says the NE named Sephiroth…lmao
Says the UD/Rogue named Shadwalker…lmao.
Am I doing this right? And you didn’t even point out the alt code in my name. Low effort.
Nah, you’re really bad at this. You should practice on 4chan.
I take it as a compliment, thanks fam.
