Tanks least respected role?

Dps have a much easier job than playing a support role. There’s not much to congratulate.

When i’m tanking, I dont mind either if dps or healer pulls when they know what they’re doing, problem is when they dont know and pull anyway causing a wipe. Like pulling too many spiders on the second boss room on underrot while we’re already dealing with those plants.

Why not? Tanks get dumped on more heavily and more often than the other roles; a little good encouragement would go a long way.

I think the word you’re looking for is objective, not ‘respected’.

Good DPS IS a support role. I’ve been thanked or had comments for plenty of things because I don’t just mindlessly tunnel damage into the boss. Little things like interrupting the CORRECT abilities, misdirecting a stray mob to the tank off your heals, well timed CC when needed, or making some nice plays to save a wipe are definitely comment worthy.

Doesn’t have to be an MVP play for someone to notice and say “thanks hunter.”

And… not sarcastically. :stuck_out_tongue:

Then go tank a high M+ as once you can do it on autopilot you just keep adding more to the pull

I gets dese gud feelz.

It’s not because tanks are the “least respected”, it’s because good tanks are hard to come by.

If you’re playing the game for respect or accolades from strangers, you might want to reevaluate.

This is fair. I’m talking about the ones whom get mad about DPS or heals pulling when literally no harm is done.

I never say “good tanking” in lower level content, any monkey could do that. I say it in higher mythic +s when the tank uses a proper route, pulls the right mobs at the right times for the proper affixes. Thats a skill. I have massive throughput, I can make up for a lot of mistakes made by groups but I cant make up for a bad tank or three bad dps.

I’m fine with getting limit tested tbh. Was doing a last minute like +13 (14?) WM on my resto shaman like 3 weeks ago and got into a group comprised of all 2.5k+ IO alts. They chain pulled the whole dungeon and didn’t give me a chance to do much besides heal. About halfway through the tank asked if he was making me sweat and I said “no it’s nice having to heal for once”. I just wasn’t ready for them to go full throttle after triad or I wouldn’t have brought my typical afk dps gear since tanks usually pull so slow half my globals are lightning bolt or lava burst.

My issue is mainly the “holier than thou” tanks that won’t admit they are wrong or don’t know what they are doing. I am perfectly fine with people not knowing routes or whatnot if they admit it. I will more than gladly show you where to go and what to pull, but some tanks don’t want to admit they don’t know what they are doing so they over/under pull and pull extra packs or whatnot. Motherlode is notorious for this.

I’ve heard people stay Nice Tanking, Nice Healing, AND Nice DPS.

Lot’s of people willing to give out complements if they are deserved.

Actually, the biggest complement, is a tank or healer requeing with the same group in a dungeon when they 90% of the time everyone everyone will leave and simply requeue with the exact same button hoping for a brand new matchup.

In my experience. If you tank consistently, and you tank well, you will find people that worship the very ground you walk on, and be put on a pedestal in their guild. Raiding teams will want you as often as possible, Keystones are an instant Invite if you know what you’re doing. Hell, I have trouble doing any Keystones alone because my guildies are always trying to come along with me if they know there’s a competent tank.

So you’re right OP. I don’t feel respected. I feel Worshiped.

You must be playing Heroic dungeons or something. That content is so weak you don’t even need a tank. So I don’t really care if people want to pull ahead of me.

In Mythic Plus, if they try that, they will die pretty damn quick If they don’t coordinate with the tank first.

I totally agree. I mostly tank but it’s night and day when you have DPS that interrupt the correct things and actually do mechanics versus just mashing keys. I appreciate it, and I’m sure the healer does too. It’s just occasionally difficult to comment on these things, especially when the pressure is on in a timed run.

I send tanks little encouragement whispers when they do good.

Sometimes even if I want to tell them thank you, I don’t get the chance. Can’t type while healing, so it’s hard to compliment a tank in the rush of a dungeon. Then they leave as soon as the last boss is dead, so I never get the chance.

Lonely tanks, disappearing into the night like an angsty Batman. Farewell Deathboiixx the DK tank. You did good. :+1:
