So my guild started pulling H Za’qul tonight and we’re seeing a lot of tank deaths. Like a lot a lot. Za’qul is putting up Mind Tether and then the off tank is getting smacked for 200-250k every second anad a half. When our Paladin tanks it, they take some hits for 50k but others for 200k, and they can kind of squeak by for a while. When it’s our Warrior tank, they basically get deleted, all hits for 250k and there’s almost nothing I as a healer can do.
I’ve looked at the logs and I can’t find any specific reason they’re getting trucked so hard. There’s no buff I can see that they’re getting that would explain the differing size in the hits the paladin’s been taking and (while I haven’t checked) the warrior tank has said they’ve had Shield Block up for some of the ones we’ve investigated.
I know there was the hotfix yesterday which bumped up the damage transferred through Mind Tether but…this seems unreasonably high. I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem and/or might be able to offer a solution.

Damage dealed to tanks is exaggerate. We are using defensives and melting healers´ mana.
It was fine when we did H Za’qul last night, so they must have broken something today…
We just pulled H Za’qul for the first time tonight, and ran right into this issue. The transferred damage just murders us. I got rocked for just under 300k damage as a 423 Prot Warrior, and our off tank, a 422 DH, was getting hit for the same amount on triggers. I’m wondering if something broke when they decided to double the damage transfer.
The change they did to the tether may have broken something. I’ll take 32k from a melee and the tank I’m tethered to standing LITERALLY ON TOP OF ME takes 200k from the same hit
Same thing for our normal run. We broke out all of our heroic raiding tanks and healers and our tanks are just getting wrecked. Our secondary tank is literally taking over 2x the damage of the main tank.
Someone did manage to find a workaround to the problem:
Basically, three tank it. Once two tanks are tethered, have the third tank taunt off so the other two don’t take/cause any Mind Tether damage. It worked for them, so if you have the option of three tanking, do so until it’s fixed.

Yea, that was how it worked for us too. we only tried it for a couple of pulls because the person who was the third tank wasn’t comfortable with that boss fight, but it did smooth out the damage to the tanks

Blizzard hotfixed this to do 100% damage instead of 50% for mind tether. The reason the tanks are getting deleted is because it isn’t just the boss melee damage that the tanks are getting hit for. Dread dispel damage for us was around 70k. Duplicate that damage and you are now at 140k plus any melee damage that the tank is taking on top of that.
The ideal scenario here is to mitigate as much of the damage that the main tank takes so the offtank isn’t deleted by the abilities. Brewmaster is good for that (and you can use tank CDs & healer CDs to reduce it further), but it looks like 3 tanking is going to be the easiest method.
In my own opinion, I think this is a terrible design and I wouldn’t mind seeing the boss melee a little harder but only have mind tether affect boss melee damage instead of anything / everything else on the encounter (if they want to keep it at 100%).
I just don’t think Blizzard really thought this one through when they opted to change the mechanic yesterday.

More like 200%. Offtank literally takes double of main. We just finished wiping on that dude, our bear tank average melee hit 108k, and 242k on a pally from the Tether.
Here’s hoping that they resolve this one quickly. Felt like a completely different fight from Tuesday.

Well I’m pissed. It had my entire raid group raging and blaming. Folks getting angry and logging out because of this crap. I’m sure this is not unique to my group either. We’ve been busting our butts and are 7/8 heroic ready to make our moves to mythic soon and this day just broke our spirits. Ty Blizz dev team. You are doing a great job .

Same here… we quit after about 7 pulls… We normally have no trouble and have gotten through most of heroic with a main bear and off warrior tank combo. Tonight we swapped out the off tank to a monk and only lasted til about 40% but with healers doing between 30 and 45k. Its unreal and needs to be fixed ASAP!
