Same… we should have it done…
This needs to be fixed ASAP please
Was having this on normal mode
I guess the recent hotfix (mind tether now does 100% damage to the other tank) bugged it or blizzard can’t do math.
It’s bugged. Mind Tether is currently transferring 100% of the unmitigated damage the hit does. A typical tank is rocking like 70%+ damage reduction passively through combined -% damage taken passives, armor, and active mitigation. The off tank is taking that hit as if they had 0 armor and no passive DR though, regardless of how much damage the primary tank takes.
The easy solution is to 3 tank the fight. Two tanks get tether, third taunts, tethered tanks play add duty and pretend to be DPS.
I can confirm I did infact die to an excessive amount of Mind Tether DMG
Does the offtank’s active mitigation work?
No, Mind Tether is direct magic damage, and AM’s all provide Armor now iirc, instead of DR, and it can’t be blocked. Big cooldowns work I assume.
But really just 3 tank the fight. Makes it trivial. You don’t even need a real third tank, just someone in a tank spec with full DPS gear works fine.
It also depends on what tanks you’re using.
IF you have a BDK Main tank and Prot off Tank you need to have the prot tank the boss. Otherwise they will absolutely get destroyed
main theory is that blizz tried to ‘fix’ stagger ( staggered dmg doesn’t get tethered) and broke everything doing that… aka, tether reflect the unmitigated damage , which would explain why the offtank is getting those random 250k magic dmg spike
Honestly, this is likely wrong.
It was more likely changed because raids were 1 tanking the boss and between the damage and being able to force who the tether went onto (used to target the closest) they would put it on a DH and ignore the mechanic to get more dps.
This wasn’t intended, so they forced raids to address it in a different way by making it target a random player if there is only 1 tank and by increasing the damage.
That’d be fine if the change were exactly what was listed in the hotfixes. As is, the damage has way more than doubled from the prior iteration of the boss (more like dealing 10 times what it used to, or 5 times what it should).
the reason why we were able to use a DPS DH as the second ‘tank’ is because brewmaster staggered dmg doesn’t get transfered to the other tank, resulting in the offtank taking very little dmg.
as usual, whenever blizz mess with brewmaster stagger they break active mitigations across the board cause stagger seems to be a coding mess.
What I find most interesting is that it was working fine on wednesday night post-hotfixes. So they made a bunch of changes to the ability, it worked fine, and then it broke a day later.
Except that there are logs of solo-tanking with non-monks (not many logs in general, but can find at least 1 pally). Buffing it to 100% transfer was plenty.
Plus, monk stagger ticks already caused mind tether damage, and making it ignore the stagger absorb would be 1: dumb, 2: require them to change stagger ticks at the same time. REALLY don’t see why they would bother, especially when changing it from 50->100% probably discourages 1-tanking enough as is.
I rolled a paladin, boosted to 120, took him down in 390 gear, its easy mode now
Thank you for this useless piece of information as the fight was already fixed ages before you necroed this thread

- Reverted a change that caused Mind Tether to deal excessive damage to the linked target.
- Corrected an issue where Mind Tether would not attach two targets that were in separate phases.
