How many new tanks you seeing around? Because I don’t think everyone and their grandmother wants to make a class that’s high in repair bills, hard to make a profit off of, and just typically boring af to play.
I’d rather not group with a tank in greens when there’s one in blues/purples that can breeze through it, and save me time in the long-run.
A good business owner will utilize supply and demand, and it really is as simple as supply and demand. Not all people appreciate when a business owner does this, but at the end of the day it’s common.
I understand that business owner might be a leap for what you offer, but the principal point remains the same. There is a demand for tanks, you can fill that demand. You have done your eye bleeding farming already, so there is no benefit for you outside of doing something to this effect. I don’t see this being any worse than a tank offering to do a dungeon for 10-15g (but it probably nets more gold in the end and doesn’t require anyone to ‘pony up’ prior to the run so you probably get more people that way)
Is this suggesting that Warriors, Druids, and Paladins are boring af to play, or that tanking in general is boring?
While I agree that not a lot of people are rolling tanks, I don’t think it’s because it’s boring, since it’s the most active role in a group PVE setting, it is arguably the most interesting role (in that setting).
Certainly I would imagine higher stress, more responsibility in groups, and generally being expected to be more prepared are also contributing factors to seeing fewer tanks.
I would wonder if raids requiring fewer tanks than any other role plays any part as well…
I find it boring personally. Tried it a few times, but everyone’s different. But that was just one of the reasons, and I’m sure there’s many more out there unmentioned. But in any case, there’s an obvious demand for them.
I love tanking. I would prefer to do that 100% of the time, but without dual spec or reasonable respec costs…its pointless to play one as there is no room for tanks passed the 5 man dungeon phase.
Every guild has their 2 tanks for 40-60 people and 5 more people playing as dps until a tanking spot opens up.
fwiw, I spent the weekend healing ZF… and had to rebind my highest rank Flash of Light key a couple of times due to finger cramps from spamming 1 key, while watching netflix
I use healbot and just left click, right click, shift left/right click, middle click, scroll, etc. I can heal most dungeons without the use of the keyboard, so it doesn’t bother me.
And that is fine. I never said tanks advertising their service is bad. Just explaining why he might get called a name if he was to whisper someone like me who is not his demographic.
Advertise away, just don’t get butt hurt when someone might tell you to GTFO lol. I personally would most likely ignore any such whispers, but I was merely telling the OP why he might get a rude response.
This is why we have Guilds and Friends. Or Alt Tanks of our own to help our Guilds and Friends. So we don’t have to pay someone to play a game with us.
Yup, friends and guilds are a great way to get a tank. More people should use it. However if you’re trying to pug, go by the pug mentality.
BoE’s are all need, even if a pattern drops and only one person can use it. It’s gold, and you joined a pug. But if it drops with a friend group, or a guild group, it’s not the case. Two very different scenarios.
Just like if you were to want to buy herbs off the AH. You’re paying someone for their time in farming those herbs you need. You pay for a pug tank when there’s none around, makes things easier on you and the tank.
Paying for a tank is paying for both your time and his.
I always enjoyed soloing & grinding with my weapon/shield Warrior in Vanilla & now Classic, so I would rather do that than turn Dungeon runs into convoluted, impersonal business transactions. To each their own.
You’re really inconsistent with your argument. You keep using the word “scummy” like a child to describe tanks who want a fee to tank for other random people but you’re apparently fine with tanks getting a righteous orb which is exactly as being paid a fee.
I play pretty casually, so if there is an instance I need for a piece of gear, i’ll either see if I have a friend or Guildie who can come with me, or i’ll check LFG Chat. If I find a tank who wants to come cool, if it is taking too long, i’ll simply do something else. I could be farming mats, I could be PvPing, I could be leveling an Alt, I could be rep grinding, I could be doing all types of things.
So i’m just not in the boat to be that desperate as to have to pay a Tank to come with the group.
As for the PUG method of needing on basically everything other than BoP gear. I’m not keen on it. If the community largely decides this is the way it goes, then so be it. But I go with the intended function of Need means you will use it, Greed means you will sell it. I basically bank on the group stating which method will be used. And if not, I wait to see what the other 4 do before I choose an option. If someone Needs on a green that obviously isn’t for their class, then I guess it is Need on sellable items, so I follow suit.
I’m not either, but that’s how it’s worked for years. Trust me, if a rare alch’ recipe dropped I’d want it too. But chances are when it’s 100g+ the other 4 people who don’t know me aren’t about to just hand me 100g+ for no reason. If people don’t like this kind of looting, establish it before invites or run with guild members or friends.
