I’d personally not buy a tank. Classic isn’t going anywhere, and if I can’t do a dungeon tonight, I’ll do it later, or help a guild member level a tank.
The game isn’t going anywhere, once phase 6 hits, the game is done basically, no point in stressing over it.
Also ,as a healer, who doesn’t have an epic mount yet, even the idea of having to spend 5g for a tank is 5g taken away from my epic mount fund
I totally agree. If I were to redefine that Need/Greed system, Need would only be available if the item that drops is actually usable by the character you are on, and if you don’t already have it if it is a 1 time item. Meaning, if it is a recipe, if you already learned it, it would be marked as greed.
But since we know nothing of the sort will be implemented, we have the community defined guidelines. Which, as much as i’m not a fan of it, has the ability to benefit me just as much as anyone else. So fair is fair = D
yep yep 100% agree thee is plenty else to do im on a pvp server so i get in to pvp raids and go pvp.i have a 17 lock i havent leveled yet.
so if i cant find a group for the few items i need i got other things to do.
I love when ppl complain about a topic then go “well idc because it doesn’t apply to me”. Also nobody cares about WF for dungeons, it’s absolutely not required and most wars will not group with enh shams bc of meme spec and taking gear from them.
Personally I don’t advertise paying services, I don’t have to, just look at the lfg chat and it’s people actually proposing to pay a tank aka first orb res for tank for strat live. People have literally whispered me offering 15g for scholo. If I get a whisper for a dungeon I don’t need, ofc I’ll ask for a fee, why would I care helping random strangers?
In original Vanilla and also in EQ, I would often charge for tanking, especially if other than a repair bill and a few coins was all I was going to get out of it. As a tank, I have no problem with it. The market is there and there is a reason the other players DO NOT roll tanks. For those of them that call you names… have fun with it for as long as you can (I usually make them feel like a butt) and then just ignore them after that. (The forums are censored???)
I only charge to do dungeons that I’ve out leveled or that I’ve gotten all the gear I need from them. I post in LFG. Posting in trade is just asking for abuse. Working with the potential employer about terms is the easiest way to get hired. Some people pay in loot, others just want a flat fee. I am always polite, even when negotiations go sour. It’s been an amazing success so far!
I have a particular mindset that I wish was more widespread.
I see it this way. Helping others is also helping yourself. For example, helping a random stranger get gear, could help you in the long run. If you end up in a group with this person again, they may be able to perform better. Same with helping people learn their class. The better the greater community is, the better runs you will have.
I receive whispers all the time offering me gold to tank often I get these when I am AT the instance portal with a guild group and someone offers me as much as 50g to tank the instance it’s typically sholo or strat tho a few times at ubrs, heck while leveling I was offered I think 20g (might have been (30g) to ditch my group and tank a Sunken temple. My personal favorite was a whisper offering 5g to tank a strat dead. I pointed out that that would not cover my repair bill for the instance if I went down even one time a highly likely occurrence with pugglets who just love to tab target adds in there right before they back into more adds and that the instance is a miserable one to tank I then informed him that to tank that one for non guildies I would have to be offered serious gold as I need no loot in there.
I did put an orb on reserve for a strat live run once, at the time I had my Compendium of dragon slaying and needed orbs, a little into the scarlet area a krol blade was looted and I won so I announced the reserve was off the first orb.
There are not enough tanks for the dungeons people want run and there are far to many tanks for the raids tanks want to tank, its always been this way and always will.
Every decent tank also logs in and receives multiple tells from friends, guildies and people they have run with before asking them to tank this or that or to go play bait for the 5 man PVP squad. These are offers to go hang out with people you know, typically people who will be in discord with you and who will not cause a wipe. People who you will be joking around with an laughing with and generally having a good time with. These people won’t ninja loot and will be ok with you taking an orb if you just got a weapon upgrade. These people are also people you will regularly run with again in dungeons or raids so when they get their loot it benefits you even if infinitesimally. If you are not paying me why in the hell would I choose your pug over my guys?
The " I’ve never payed a tank and I never will" crowd amuses me even as a non mercenary tank. If you have a tank pal like me or your guild has tanks like me that like running instances that is fine, but if you are one of those people spending 45 minutes to an hour waiting for a tank for your sholo run for your blood boots Ive got some news for you. You can farm 25 gold in as long as it took to get that free tank, if everyone in the party pitched in it would only take 15-20 minutes to pay the “I pissed off almost all the tanks while they were leveling and didn’t get on any of their F lists” tax.
That’s the thing, it isn’t only about you, it is about the community. You may be totally geared and not need anything else, but others may still be catching up. If you help them catch up, when the next content is unlocked, you have a greater pool of people to do said content with.
