thats why im rolling my tank, just got back in the game and want to help out the newb/rerollers / alts gear up and get keys if i happen to make a few friends on my server along the way im all for it
I don’t have the problem, luckily. I don’t have to pay a tank to do anything.
I also mentioned that I was resto, so I’m not sure about the enhancement dig. And let’s be real - why the hell would anyone go enhance? For the 1/10 times WF procs and crits someone’s face off? I’ll pass.
So you’re sitting in an Ivory tower, Resto Shaman with all the Warrior Friends you could ask for.
You sound like you don’t understand the issues the rest of the player base is facing and that’s why you disagree with the practice.
That makes much more sense.
HMU if you wanna do some Jump Runs.
Well, heals/mining here. That’d be nice were you on my server.
Your “Proven” points are total BS. You want stuff for free and you want random people to take time out of their day to help you. That’s your only proven point.
I think portals vs tanking is a valid comparison. You want a portal when I have no vested interest in making a portal or in you accomplishing your goal, compensate me. You want a tank when tank has no vested interest in tanking for you or in you accomplishing your goal, compensate tank.
Easy to say as a mage, I have a feeling you don’t play war/tank bc you would know that warriors are the one class that is unable to solo/farm stuff for gold. Even 15g for a run is not good g/hour ratio, you can farm shellfish in desolace and get more than that. Worth mentioning that plate repair bills is the highest in the game, and pug’s are going to get you killed way more often than friends or guildies.
You would also know the first person to eat crap is the tank in a pug, more often than not caused by zoomer retail mages that go balls deep AOE before the tank even got a pull. Can you really blame people charging to put up with all of that? Why do you think tanks are so few, there are so many wars playing now and all you need is to put a shield on. Any spec can tank anything even MC if you’re actually good.
Do you also give free transmutes to “help the community” with that mindset of yours?
It’s actually comical how unintentionally insulting you’re acting towards those who would consider paying for a tanking service and not to those who are charging for tanking themselves.
If you had your way, there wouldn’t be tanks coming out of the wood work to tank for free, the tank shortage would just be that much worse and those who need the gear the most, the players who are obviously behind the curve and have limited connections would just have to go without.
I routinely tank Live Strat for ALL orbs reserved. I team up with a healer from my guild and we split the profits. Our main customer, mages and locks.
Neither me nor the healer have a lot of gold farming options available to us, and we’re both raid geared so we’ve done as quick as 15 min clears before where I’m top DPS by over 30% . This is essentially a carry service. The only fee is not a fee, it’s just an agreement to go without. We’ll run until you get your loot and the healer and I make out like kings. Is that selfish? I don’t know, the mages who can make 100g an afternoon sitting in Kargath don’t seem to mind. The locks that can make 60g-70g an hour farming Maraudon don’t seem to mind.
You’re complaining about the idea of it all, when in reality you don’t even face this problem. You’re captain white-knight over here for people who are willing to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
If you are the one trying to get into the dungeons as you say, you should not be charging. If it is something that you don’t need to do and would only do it if you are paid there is more of an argument there, though I still disagree. You can’t have your cake and eat it too
if the tank came to me and said hey i want the first orb in strat if thats what we were running id be ok with some kind of concession like that, as long as its not to crazy. its not really any different from a mage charging for a portal. frankly i think you get more out of the tank.
Honestly you can put your name out there for people. Personally i have used tanking services twice and both times i have paid 5g same as the other 3 members so a total of 20g. Anymore than that i probably wouldn’t be willing to pay. Main thing if you do decide to do this is know the dungeon and have good gear. People may get salty if they die on a pull because they are paying for a pull. Thats how it is tho, and if people want a tank bad enough they will pay 5g for a solid one rather than waiting 30 mins or more looking for one. Thats just my 2c…
Before I left the game for many years, here was my roster.
90 Druid - Healer - Main
85 Death Knight - Tank
85 Hunter
85 Fury Warrior
85 Mage
85 Priest
40 Warlock
I played many classes. I am well aware of the pains of Plate wearers and the difficulty of money making. I used to play Alliance on Medivh, and was a competitive Raider from Vanilla through WotLK. My druid was Top 20 as a Healer on the server.
And yes, if someone needs something, I more than likely will give it to them (Such as a Transmute). For most crafting, if you have the Mats, i’ll do it for free. If you need a small amount of cheap mats to complete the order, i’d likely supply it just to be nice.
Even in ESO, my favorite thing was to help lowbies and newbies out. In that game, crafted gear is very important, and I would very often craft a person who was still learning entire head to toe sets for free just to help them out. I’d spend the time with them to explain the gear, the abilities, and the Champion Points so they know how the game works.
That’s just the type of person I am.
That is Capitalism my man, offering a Service for payment. We all already do it!
You message me to DPS for your UBRS run, Say say yes in payment I will acquires and or /roll for gear.
This Warrior is offering his services to tank for a sum of monetary gain instead of gear, should someone take the offer nobody has been hurt here.
A service was offered, a customer has agreed to those terms. If he gets no Customers his Business has bankrupted itself.
If I had my way, the community would embrace bears more, and shaman tanks more, and DPS warriors would just slap on a shield 50% of the time and share the load.
One of the things I loved about classic coming back was community and being part of it. I don’t charge for pretty much anything. That’s part of the fun of classic.
I’m in a decent raid guild, have good gear, and don’t have to want for tanks/dungeon runs. But, I still help that lowbie who spams general for SFK group while I’m farming swift-thistle. I still will buy bags for a new player in a random city when they are trying to sell their low level wares to earn the silver to buy one. And, yeah, I haven’t charged for a single transmute, yet. But, in fairness that was to guildies.
The reality is, this type of behavior hurts the community, and takes away from what vanilla really was and what classic could have been.
In this case - fee + gear + items that drop. Which is my point, charge the fee or roll on stuff. Taking both in an MMO is ridiculous.
Agreed! I 'm paying you’re getting nothing but silver shared through looting.
And this is why most tanks get a bad rep…
I never have or will pay for a tank or healer.
This is a game, not a business.
You are not entitled to anything more than anyone else in the group is as it takes all of them to make it happen.
Its not your time, its everyone in the groups time.
Good luck with it, but since you asked, there ya go.
I’ve had people whisper me and ask me to tank for pay. If I have time I’ll accept it. I never hit other people up demanding payment
I mean if people can’t find a tank and there is a market for it, go for it. I would do the same.
Mages aren’t shamed/mocked/yelled at for charging for food/water/ports that costs them nothing but time (time == gold == runes). There are at least a dozen mages sitting in Kargath on any given night spamming their services in various chat channels. Why the hate on warriors charging for tanking services?
Hence willing to pay for it
