Tanking needs balancing

I won’t talk about MDI because that is pointless to talk, but looking at the top tanks you can see only 3 out of 6 classes in the top 20 keys.

  • Out of the top 20 tanks, 18 of them are Vengeance Demon Hunters, 1 Brewmaster Monk, and 1 Guardian Druid

  • Currently in the top 20 healers, all 5 healer classes are represented in some fashion. The current breakdown are 10 Restoration Shamans, 4 Restoration Druids, 3 Holy Paladins, 2 Discipline Priests, and 1 Mistweaver Monk

Healers are more balanced in this term (still need some tweaks though).
We can see a least much more representation from other classes.

Tell you what, get them to fix Havoc DH and then we can discuss VDH. Until leave the only thing the class excels at alone.

Tank balance this expansion is better than it was in BfA, and they left BfA tank balance untouched for the entire expansion. So I wouldn’t hold out much hope this time.

This is not a thread about Havoc. I’m exclusively talking about tanking balance, which you can clearly see it is not well balanced (not even close).

It is not one thing that your class excels, it is something that your class is dominating. That would call for a balancing, but if you can only see nerf as an answer, I would gladly sign for a nerf then.

And I am bringing up the over all health of the class. You can not nerf the only thing it is current good at and call it a day.

Well, something has to be done. They didn’t touch during BFA but will certainly do something very shortly. Either through buffing other tanks to the point they’re viable enough to compete with VDH, or tone down VDH to the other tanks level.

This is not a thread about your class. It is a thread about tank balancing. If you don’t have anything to add or talk about tanking, please create another thread for that.

This happens every expansion and people always want balancing without sharing any ideas on how to balance them.

And I am not just going to let you look at one aspect of the CLASS in a vacuum. Because if you nerf one of the two builds the class has, it hurts the class as whole.

Imbalance looks vastly more warped at the top. Even if VDH is 5% better, the very top % of people will still make it look much more of gap.

The real issues isn’t that anyone needs to be buffed, but trash mob damage needs to be looked at. People are kiting because the damage from packs are so much higher than we were use to in BFA. Find out what caused that and you will probably have your solution, and the non tanks will like you more as it will help their survivability as well.

Agreed that looking just at the top 20 is a bad idea, but the stats are pretty distorted even for the playerbase at large.

Here’s the population of unique tanks that have done a 15+ key so far this season:
40.8% are Demon Hunters
16.9% are Paladins
16.5% are Monks
11.7% are Druids
9.6% are Death Knights
4.5% are Warriors

That’s pretty heavily tilted.

  1. They nerfed tanks across the board.
  2. Tons of caster mobs, way more than groups have interrupts for.
  3. Tons of trash mobs have special abilities that can’t be interrupted.
  4. Trash mobs that melee for magic damage :roll_eyes:
  5. Trash packs that are larger than the AoE cap, since the dungeon team didn’t get the memo that the class designer was slapping caps on AoE.

You are the one here crying out loud “muh don’t touch my class” and I started this thread about tank balancing.

You want numbers? We can go deep into it.

Top 100 tanks:

  • 76 Vengeance Demon Hunter
  • 11 Guardian Druid
  • 5 Protection Pally
  • 7 Brewmaster Monk
  • 2 Blood DK
  • 0 Warriors

People who plan to do 15s and higher researched which tank would be performing well, and many gravitated towards that choice.

The stats are still already biased, BEFORE the expansion comes out.

Well if you look back at BFA, there were similar trends there as well. I mean season four was basically protection tank dominated. Season three had a pretty good mix made up of most the tanks. Season two was again, dominated by prot warrriors. With season 1 being Blood DK heaven.

It has actually been pretty rare that the tanks where relatively balanced. This time it is VDHs turn to shine.

Lots of people do high keys not because it’s their game focus, but because it’s a very easy and quick way to get gear.
