Tanking heroics sucks - I refuse to do it for free

I quit towards the end WotLK and recently came back to Classic for TBC. The player base is vastly different.

Is this a gimmick or something? What the heck are you even rambling about?

Most of my time in tbc has been as a resto druid healing normal dungeons, any time i have to heal someone in old 60 raid gear it’s at least twice as hard as a tank that has tbc greens/blues

Nobodies trying to beat anybody at PvE except sweats going for worlds first. Just about everybody cleared all Classic content as long as they were active.

Well I wouldn’t give that one rude a$$hat any power by allowing his rude behavior to turn you off the game or how you play it. Keep on trucking along - you will learn as you go. Everybody gets a chance to learn, you’re no different and that a$$hat can go … himself.

And then people wonder why they have to wait so long to find a tank.

It’s not “abuse” dude god this snowflake generation is so soft. But yes, players in general these days just don’t wanna communicate or help anyone but themselves. Big picture: as a tank he should look up some heroic guides if he’s gonna lead/use marks. This is simply growing pains because a lot of players have already done all this on pservers.

What you’re describing is why there’s a tank shortage.

I just love how people rationalize rude behavior by blaming the other guy for not having a thick skin. You should treat other people how you’d like to be treated.

I just did and tanked a heroic for my first time. While I got chunked on my bear tank we cleared the whole dungeon in 30 minutes with only 1 death on heroic ramparts. My group called me a Beast. I gotta say that along with reading this made me feel pretty damn good about it.

Also, I wanted to add I charged for tanking services all the time in Classic so it’s really not that unusual and I think it’s pretty fair once your a bis geared tank. If your good at something, never do it for free.

Tanking heroics only sucks if you’re bad tank and don’t communicate with the group or make a good group.

Most of the problems are avoidable when you first form the group. First communicate with your group. Use target markers. Bring appropriate classes.

Bringing multiple shaman to heroic shattered halls? Probably a bad idea. You need cc.

Bro you need a guild.

Like half the posts are going off on this one sentence. He has some T3., good grief.

The last time I spent any amount of time tanking was actual vanilla and people told me what to do all the time. Over the years its become expected for the tank to lead everything and know everything, and that’s kinda crazy.

This is because they are bad. Not the sort of, inexperienced and willing to learn type of bad, but actually unskilled, unknowing, and unwilling to learn.

Nice! Good for you. Tank service is WAAAAAY more valuable than mage water/food or ports. Tank tips should def be a thing.

This has an easy fix: don’t bother skipping crap. More often than not, it’s quicker and easier to just kill anything anyone might pull if you’re pugging.

??? lol wut

Like the joker says, if you are good at something never do it for free… your rant introduces some doubts though.

For starters gear choices, why are you defence capping for heroic dungeons and if you dungeon grinded rep all the way to revered, I would expect most naxx gear to be upgraded already.

I tanked TBC on the first go around… heroics are disproportionally challenging (raid or die).
For any DPS they may need to be hand held and spoonfed to them and yeah, it sits on tanks to do that, lead/mark/plan/tell other classes how their toolkit works.

Bingo. Its a defacto part of being a tank.

Wait what? Druids are awesome and only get better with gear.

Post on your main so we can see gearing choices and assess. Also it is absolutely NOT unreasonable to exploit the rules of supply and demand… as a Tank you cannot as efficiently e.g go grind out fire elementals for primal fire as an equivalent geared DPS can, if your role is in high demand charge whatever the market will bear.

Competent groups will not need to be marked and/or can be done by DPS (as packs frequently repeat themselves in dungeons the same mob positions/types should be handled the same… as long as its communicated that it is the strategy upfront). Tanks still need to know where to position packs (and party) to reduce the impact of e.g fears, siliences patrols etc… TBC is where tank skill really differentiates its not just press buttons and collect loot for heroics (yet).

Around ~T5/6 geared prot pallies will make heroics faceroll.

Might sound shocking, but some people want to experience the game by playing the game not watching 100 hours of videos and digging through spreadsheets. Nothing needs to be 100% optimized the first second it happens.

what it comes down to is someone needs to be the leader and usually most often it is the tank, it is what is expected.

tanks are expected to know all the pulls and strats of a dungeon.

if “stuff” goes sideways tank will get the blame
